    Thanx guys! My profile pic is of Marilyn & Jane on a break during filming. I was obsessed with Anita Loos as a teen and loved her ability to write witty banter for quite modern, outspoken & independent female characters. So glad you were delighted :)

    I’m so glad you guys enjoyed this movie as it’s one of my favorites! I’ve been a Marilyn Monroe fan since I was 13, and this movie was the one that really got me to love her. It left quite an impact, and I can see why it’s so iconic! And Matt, if you’re ever in the mood to learn more about Marilyn, I highly recommend the books written about her by author Michelle Morgan. In my years of Marilyn fandom, I’ve found that Michelle Morgan’s books are not only some of the most well-researched and factual, but they also are written with such love for Marilyn herself. I think her biographies are a great introduction to Marilyn for anyone who wishes to learn about her life and career.

    When Jane Russell made "The Outlaw", she was only 20 years old. Her face still had "baby fat" in the cheeks near her eyes. By the time "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" was released, Jane had matured and the baby fat was gone which is why her face had sharper lines.
    The same thing happened to Cameron Diaz. If you look at her in "The Mask" when she was only 19 and compare it to movies she made a decade later, the "baby fat" has moved away from her eyes as well.

    There was actually a movie called The War Zone - which is a pretty brutal British drama about a teenager uncovering a heavily repressed dark family secret, and is actually a pretty good movie. Also, upon saying that I can not remember the goddamn title to this movie and usually misremember it as "The War Room." because it's just a really forgettable title.

  • @MWTravesty
    @MWTravesty 3 года назад

    The Meaning of Life is an interesting movie. It's so much better than you feel about it by the end. The beginning is a half hour of Terry Gilliam being self-indulgent. It's amazing, but it has nothing to do with the rest of the movie (except for that one sequence that he clearly added afterward to justify it), and by the time it ends you're like what am I even watching? Then the actual movie starts and you're reminded oh yeah it's this movie and oh yeah this part this is the best and oh my god I forgot about this sketch this is fucking brilliant. And then it ends on that Christmas in heaven song and Michael Palin in drag telling you to not be such a dick all the time, which is kind of bland and a downer, so it ends really weak. So by the end you feel pretty meh about it, but every time you remember and re-watch it you are reminded oh yeah this movie is amazing it might be their best work.

    @BlameSociety - Hello Matt and Craig. Have either of you watched Orson Welles's 'Falstaff: Chimes at Midnight'? A tragedy about fatherhood and ageing assembled from bits and pieces of several History plays. It manages (with hindsight on the part of the viewer) to make its most lighthearted moments (e.g. highway robbery scene) the most intensely melancholic in the piece.

    Jane's eyebrows are helping to create that "mean" look. Unfortunately highly-arched rounded brows were all the rage around that time. She could've benefitted with a very low arch with a natural contour. Though her face has a more "carved out" appearance which we attribute to masculinity (and a round appearance to femininity) Jane Russell is a striking beauty in my eyes.
