Awe, I felt so sorry for Hal. That had to be killing him letting her go. The craftsmanship looked outstanding and he seemed like such a nice fella. You and Ken were very kind and patient with him. The world needs more Kermits and Kens. Great job guys!
i think he was genuinely touched that his dream would now feature as a character to inspire the young, and young at heart. when kermit picked up and set the tail down on concrete, you could sound how solid the airframe sounded. like when you slam a door on a well made car and can tell its solid.
You're a good man, Kermit. For all you have done to promote and share all that is aviation and to celebrate and honor those who have made aviation a part of their lives, too, thank you. Semper Fi, My Friend, and God bless.
I have to empathize with Hal. As we reach a certain age it's a concern that we don't want to leave a lot of work and hardship on our family if our health declines. I'm grateful that Hal can depend on someone like Kermit who is more than willing and able to step in and help when needed. This was a very heartwarming and touching video.
The original Powell PH Racer was all plywood and cloth construction and it did have leather hinges for the control surfaces, its weight was actually really close to meeting FAR 103, the plans that are available now use a steal tube frame, wood, and cloth construction, making the plane heavier. I picked up a set up plans awhile back the intention of building an ultralight version someday.
What a cool and rare aircraft! It never ceases to amaze me the number of one-off aircraft from that time period. I feel bad for Hal though, nit only because he was semi-forced to sell the aircraft, but also because he and his wife were given some really pretty terrible news. I hope he has as long as possible.
Kermit, when you climbed into that little bugger I swear you looked like you were 17-years-old again! You and Hal made a great picture together. This was one of your very best human interest videos, Kermit; well done, sir.
This video was very touching. I can empathize with Hal as I currently restore old cars and have the same passion you all do with planes. I'm getting up there in age and with 15 projects left, I don't know if I'll see the end of them all either. I'm so happy that you treated him so respectfully and I can't think of anyone better his project could have gone to. Thank you Mr. Weeks!
That old guy is a national treasure Kermit, so glad you are looking after him. Just imagine if he passed before you got to cross paths and all his stories were left untold? A lost fortune that no amount of money could rival
The excitement you showed when you got in that plane! So gratifying to see you experience pure joy! I hope Hal proves the doctors wrong and life's for years! Thanks for sharing your passion Kermit. I'd love to go on one of these adventures with you.
One of the best aviation videos I've seen...great story great people and I hope you can sometime soon complete Hal's project in his honor + memory Kermit..... we're all just passing through here...follow your dreams ...while you can "We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, grow, to love...and then we return HOME." Australian Aboriginal Proverb "Keep em Flyin"!
What a beautiful little airplane. You are a good man. It is plain to see how much you care for not just the airplanes but also very much for the persons who value them as living history. Hopefully Hal will get to see it take flight before his final flight. Keep up the good work.
Wow..... what amazing video a lot of history in just one hiding place, so many dreams probably will left behind but we don't mind, because even if it's not with us, the flying bug inside of us will never die.❤🛩️🐞
One of the best videos you've done, Kermit. You're all good guys. Glad to see Ken again. Hope there will be a video with him on assembling the wings. The PH Racer looks like a nifty little bugger. Feel very sorry for Hal. I sure hope he can get through this hardship. Freebie suggestion: Have Hal's and Jaqueline's names painted on each side. Sort of to keep his memory tied to the airplane. Cheers.
Great VLOG Kermit!! " Per Ardua Ad Astra" ( Through Adversity to the Stars) Amazing to meet Hal this time in your VLOG and the Latin motto I have written is of Royal Air Force
its very rare to see 2 "forever young" spirits in the same place, at the same time, but thats what starred in this video here. you and hal strike me as "2 brothers from another mother." hal seemed genuinely touched his dream would become a character to inspire the young, and young at heart. i hope he makes it long enough to see you finish the plane. i also hopes he makes it to fantasy of flight again and you can treat him like a king who walks the earth!!!! btw that old ambulance by the hangar when you pulled it was pretty awesome as well.
Great Video. Good men. I loved the nod to The Rocketeer. My dad had a small part in that film, one of his last on screen appearances. He's been gone for nearly 20 years now. It's bittersweet knowing that these planes will be around long after we're gone, but what a wonderful legacy. Thanks for all that you do, Kermit. Great memories for those of us with many hours, and an inspiration to the next generation.
Got to love those Greatest Generation types, they have absolute Treasure stashed and horded all over the country. I hope you make that lil racer fly again someday.....you'd go from the Martin MARS monster to this little flea.....the flea being the more dangerous of the 2 to fly.
What a nice little plane you have got there! A great project for Ken to finish. Sometimes It is the small and one off plane that inspires a young boy‘s or girl‘s dream. What you do for aviation can not be overestimated. What you do to kids’ hearts is even more impressive. Light the spark within.
What a wonderful video of an exciting project and a wonderful man in his playground. All those of us with projects on the go just got busy on them. Thank you for sharing this.
Beautiful work, great story, best wishes to Hal in his battles, he must have many fantastic stories from his decades of commitment to the industry. Thankyou again, love your content PS I see scammers replying in the viewer comments again....
Stay Safe Stay Well Kermit Weeks. you still have Much to do to keep the Memory Air Flight Alive. all of you Elders are the Legends of Flight, and that is no Fantasy. thanks to all of you.
Keeping the dream of flight alive Kermit thx for an outstanding informative and entertaining video. IMHO You've got to get this project in the air for Hal and Jaquelynn as if you don't already have enough on your plate. Good luck. God's Blessings to you and Them.
I got to tell you the look on your face when you stepped in and said I fit I fit😂 that was so cool I'm just turning 62 put in 40 Years of trucking and I hope I can make it down in time to see what you got I know where all the good aircraft museums are and aircraft graveyards and if I don't make it down to see what you got well at least I'll go happy😅💯🤣
This needs to be put "ON THE FAST TRACK" so Hal can see it fly ! Looks like a straight forward little plane. With all the talent you have at FOF Get'r done! Thanks for this. Love Hals smile; he knows it's got a good home.

The end of that choked me up, we are all custodians all but for a short time and to hand dreams on is priceless.

What a beautiful and moving story. Thank You for sharing with us Kermit and Thank You Hal and Jacqueline.
Simply one of the best stories ever told on RUclips.Thank you for letting us all meet Hal.
Kermit, what a fitting and touching tribute to the man, his machine and his dream at the end of your video. Well done!
If Hal's aircraft makes it in a children book, his dream will become the dream of thousand of kids.🙂

Said a prayer for the man. He's definitely got the aircraft and car bug.🙏
I hope he can find a surgeon who can help him
Thanks Kermit. I like seeing good folks

Heartfelt that one, the legacy will live thankfully. 😌

Earned a lot of respect on this one, Kermit. I hope Hal survives to see his aircraft in one of your books.
That had to be killing Hal, passing on his dream like that. But now his dream will fly someday. What a beautiful little aircraft!
Wow, touching.

Just Awesome Kermit, Lovely little machine, very similar to the Lincoln Sport we have here which is powered by a Bristol Cherub.
