It blows my mind when you go to a mechanic with a rough running car that unless it's a specialty shop that deals with your type of car NO ONE checks vacuum lines. My guess is that most mechanics are just used to naturally aspirated engines so they don't even think about vacuum lines, and with these Volvos (and in my case Saabs) there's quite a few. It's amazing how $10 of vacuum line can restore a car to running in like new condition.
Robert DIY I moved to Florida about 4 years ago now, so I changed a lot of things on my mother's Saab that didn't really need it yet just because I knew they were expensive for a shop to do, and I cannot believe myself, I forgot to change the vacuum lines. A couple months ago one fell off and her car was running really rough at idle, she took it to the mechanic she uses (he's a nice guy, reminds me a lot of you in disposition actually), he fixed it for her free of charge but I feel so bad that I never changed the vacuum lines for her. After your 20th car changing vacuum lines it gets hard to remember if you did it or not sometimes lol.
Thanks Robert! Great walk around the tube landscape under the hood. It is almost too much to take it though. Baby steps for me. But I get it. A certain responsibility to learn how to inspect and locate problems, even little ones hiding where the inobservant person is sure to miss them. The collapsing hose is not a problem that would jump out at me but now seems so obvious. It figures the tubes get weak with time and use. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks if you can help resolve my issue.
the car is driving just normal no slipping.Winter mode,D,R,1 and 3 works as usual. fluid level is on hot side about in the middle with 20min of driving. Going to try the Vol-Com method and see if i have a fault code in the gearbox.

+theAngelofhevn +theAngelofhevn thanks for the follow up. Here in the US, that light is a Check Engine amber warning. Yes I do know that it comes on with some transmission issues. I'm surprised that mine has not come on, I guess it is because it shifts at the correct speeds when going forward. The last time my car had a bad transmission, first gear was real bad and it would trigger the light, causing the light to come on and the car to drop into limp home mode. It doesn't slip in limp mode, it actually starts out in 3rd gear, like winter mode, then it doesn't down shift like it's supposed to. Limp home mode is supposed to protect the transmission. Once I was moving, I would use my scan gauge to clear the code (P0705 I think), and the car would drive good, as long as I didn't need to down shift to first.
maybe you can do a video on regular turbo cars and the R models and what would be acceptable to pay for 1 running good and needing work say a tranny...would be interesting and informative...in my area they have a 2006 S60 R but needs a trans for 5k. not sure its a deal ???
AwakeDude911 Let me back up what he said. I have an 02 of the same car. Bad trans for 5 grand? Hell no. That is a very bad deal. Unless you plan on buying a new trans for it, the used one, if you could even find a good used one, will very soon be in the same shape. Pass on that deal unless you have a know good used to fans. And by good I mean that you've had the opportunity to actually drive before buying. Not one that some guy says is "good".
NorthernChev man, they didn't make the S60R in '02, but I do understand what you are saying. Anyway, those 12 year old cars are selling between $3000 (good shape, salvaged title) to $6000 good condition, high mileage. It's easier to get a replacement engine than transmission. So, I might pay $5000 for one with a bad engine but not transmission.

Hi Robert. Im having this problem with my V50 T5 AWD Geartronic that my revs dont stay still when driving. Revs goes up and down, its like the Turbo puts too much boost and then releases. I will explain, when driving 45-55mph down the road, i have my foot still on the accelerator and driving the same speed at 1400RPM (this happens in Auto and Manual mode and with A/C on or off, doesnt make a difference) it will suddenly kick up to 2000RPM for 2-3 seconds then drop to 1000RPM during 1 second with a vibration and then go back to normal 1400RPM. Another issue i think is related to this, is when i cold start the car. Revs go up and down while start up, here is a video: ruclips.net/video/3CmFjgzzaV0/видео.html What can cause this? i will try to make a video while driving when it happen. It does happen every 1 minute or so at that same speed. mainly happens in 4 gear but can sometimes do it aswell in 3 and 5 gear. never really seen it doing it at 1 and 2 gear but i barely drive constant speed in 1 or 2 gear so i cant tell. Also last couple of days, when i start, it doesnt start properly. It shutters at 400RPM. I then stop the engine and try to start again and it start with fine but with the revs issue in the video. any help would be apreciated :D
Robert DIY Sorry man, forgot to mention. I have no engine light on, engine light works tho as you can see on the video i linked in my first comment. Connected OBD2 scanner and no fault code found :) interested to know what you think it could be 😃

So, I might pay $5000 for one with a bad engine but not transmission.
yeah think id like an R Volvo but 5K price is to much even if it has 89K on the clock and in good shape...its still an northern car.
Robert DIY I didn't say I had an R... But I am having the exact same problem finding a good trans for my 02. THAT is why I commented. Although I do see the problem. I said same car.
Revs go up and down while start up, here is a video: ruclips.net/video/3CmFjgzzaV0/видео.html
What can cause this? i will try to make a video while driving when it happen.

Connected OBD2 scanner and no fault code found :) interested to know what you think it could be 😃
My guess would be the ETM. Some generic code readers can not find that pending code. The light or ETS light will come on soon.
