Their names are Rosé (born in New Zealand and raised in Australia. Girl with the red hair. She’s the main vocalist with gorgeous vocals), Jennie (born in Korea and raised in New Zealand. The one in the tank. Main rapper and lead vocalist. She’s sooo fire), Lisa (born in Thailand. The one with bangs and long hair. She’s the main dancer and said to be the best female dancer in kpop. She’s also the lead rapper and sub-vocalist. Swag queen), and Jisoo (straight up Korean. Black kind of short hair. Visual of the group and lead vocalist with immaculate vocals). They are the biggest girl group right now, not just in kpop. They trained for about 4-6 years. Perfect choice doing both BTS and BLACKPINK first because they're THE biggest music groups today (male and female respectively).
BLACKPINK is actually the world's biggest girl group right now (not even just in Kpop. I mean music in general). That music video you just saw is just one of their music videos with over a Billion views (yes Billion with a B).
BLACKPINK is the 2nd most subscribed artist on the planet (54M subs. Justin Bieber is #1 with 58M). They are the most viewed artist this 2020 (5 Billion views just this year). 3 of their music videos each have MORE THAN 1 Billion views. They have over 2 Billion streams in Spotify alone. They're the first Kpop group to ever perform at Coachella (oh you better react to their Coachella live performances too. They're fire).
BLACKPINK & BTS are untouchable even outside of Kpop. Even other Kpop groups and other music groups can only dream of hitting their numbers. All the 4 members of BLACKPINK can speak English (which is not common in Kpop). 3 of the 4 members are fluent in English because they grew up in English-speaking countries like Australia and New Zealand (btw BTS actually has only 1 fluent English speaker in the group). They're more of English speakers than Korean but they're ultimately still a Kpop group so they can't just ditch Korean. They have to pay respects to their roots. But it goes without saying that BLACKPINK is one of Kpop's most multilingual artists as they can collectively speak Japanese, Thai, and Chinese too on top of their English and Korean.
They have collabed with foreign artists before like Selena Gomez (Ice Cream), Lady Gaga (Sour Candy), Dua Lipa (Kiss & Make-up), and Cardi B (Bet You Wanna).
BLACKPINK's concept is girl crush. Most of their songs are hard-hitting in your face and very heavily based on hip-hop but they do occasionally have some more feminine songs.
I recommend watching *HOW YOU LIKE THAT* and *KILL THIS LOVE* next.
Their 2 debut songs (first releases) *BOOMBAYAH* and *WHISTLE* are worth listening too.
