5years later and you still have people coming to watch your videos! You’re great Chelsea! I love it when women are knowledgeable, successful professionals!! May God bless you and your family!
Perfect video! My buddy just asked me for advice on this exact issue. Seeing you doing it and getting good results gives me the confidence to help him with his car! Thank you!
Thank you for the video. I just tried this process with generic Magic Eraser from Amazon and Simple Green cleaner. It removed 90% of the spots and stains. I’m going to follow it up with Mothers Back To Black trim dressing.
The magic eraser is just a super fine sand paper. Get some 1200 grit sand paper and tape off the paint with green painters tape. The 1200 grit sand paper will take the top layer off pretty quick. Then clean the trim with alcohol and then use paste wax to leave a like new shine one the surface or use Mothers back to black.
I have a 2010 Camaro SS that gets this very bad from the oak trees over my driveway. I maintain my car fairly well, but we get so much rain in the summer here in Florida that it's a PITA washing the car to only have it rain 2 hours later. I found magic eraser works very well, but you have to tape off the paint near the trim to avoid scrubbing into it. Also need something to seal or treat the trim after scrubbing. Great job btw!
To bring back the trim gloss, you could use Mother's Back-to-Black. I've used that in the past on trim that looked tired and it came back looking new and lasted for a good while before needing reapplication.
This is an excellent vid. I will be stealing this technique to remedy trim issues. I use Protect All to dress exterior rubber and interior plastics. It is not greasy and helps level the color on faded trim. It is extremely versatile on all surfaces except cloth. A combination of Protect All and Meguiars Ultimate Fast Finish makes an incredible combo to protect leather surfaces. No more ceramic coating for me on leather. 👍
Spray w silicone grease or 205 re seal to restore and protect against future damage, kind of like wax/lube after you clean it. WD 40 works in a pinch too
I have had a bit of luck with super clean with a small amount of Lysol quat and a magic eraser followed by a solution finish coating. It is effective but very slow going .
I’d recommend taping off the paint when using a magic eraser. If your clear is thin due to the sun you might actually remove it! I speak from experience. ;-)
I've been wet sanding the damaged rubber 1/4 panel window trims on the back doors of my Ford Fairmont EL. A lot of the rubber had holes in it and was peeling due to the harsh ultraviolet rays of the Queensland sun. I just used ordinary sandpaper circles from eBay.
That was very interesting 😀 I have used the Magic sponge on a lot of things BUT not the car.... I intend to try it out, I love cleaning my car & the hints from everyone!! Go girl get into it and more information will be Great. 👏👏👏👏🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲
That’s gotta be a Highlander. I own one(same color too) and have the same exact issue. Car looks brand new inside and out besides this trim. Hopefully this works!
You can also remove the trim to clean it most cars have a nut on the inner door or small fastener to remove and trim will slide off by pulling it backward off of the door I have the same material on my 03 Taurus Back to black will also remove the mold but it is time consuming .
Hi all, My car is 4 months old , 2020 model . I park outside due to a lot of stuff being hoarded in our garage. I will need some time to get my garage cleaned. In the mean time, there a lot of dust, flowers from the tree parked under and dirt is collected between the car window trim and the car window. I have got my car manually cleaned. They did not get it. My car look old now. Please suggest a cleaning method or video for my car. Thanks!
Tea tree oil works and will kill everything without messing up the trim. I applied twice and those spots are about 85% gone will do another treatment and then use a trim restorer.
Just researching what methods and solutions people use to get moss off of cars. So naturally came across this video. Just searched the web to try and find some other videos that use 'dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride' and I am inundated with health warnings and medical studies which warn of this product's usage... Other videos are saying just soapy water works.. might try that. Open to other suggestions on who to clean moss from a car.
A quality degreaser on a wet car, let sit and pressure wash off. But if you are concerned about the health risks it may be best to consult a professional detailer who would know how to probably handle the situation properly and safely.
Good video! I watched it and went looking for something to try,Simple Green and a soft tooth brush followed by VPR did a decent job. My trim wasn't quite as bad as the one in the video but for now it looks good.
Thank you! I am going to try this with Super Clean this weekend. Does anyone know if Cerokote Trim Coat will work on the rubber? Or it is only for hard, textured plastic?
A 2002 Kia Spectra has lots of black transfer from door weatherstripping. It gets on skin and clothes very easily. Any tips how to clean it and restore and protect?
What do you use on a sunroof where either water has be standing for a long period of time and all around the edges the glass is white or maybe it’s called oxidation? Thanks,Steve
What about the plastic trim above where you're repairing? The plastic part that's attached to your window that prevents water from dripping into the door (if that makes sense?) - the small thin plastic
I just used a steamer with a brush and came off with hardly any work. I don't know if the steamer is bad for the paint or anything, but it sure took the gunk off.
"Hi Chelsea How Are You Doing, I Have A Question After You Cleaned The Trim With The Spray Nine and Magic Eraser What Type of Rubber Trim Protectant Did You Use To Bring back The Shine?..
You can try Cerakote trim coating but I didn't treat it as customer wasn't requesting it, just wanted them cleaned. I did put wax on them to help prevent further damage. It had a consistent finish after.
Any all purpose cleaner with a microfiber would work. You can try the autofiber scrub ninja or a magic eraser LIGHTLY and briefly to do a deep cleaning but to maintain microfiber and apc should remove it
Great Tip! What year was this vehicle? I need to try this on my 13 year old vehicles. You could tape the painted area and feel better and be more aggressive on the rubber trim. Have you used Meguiars 39?, I just bought some and tried it on some exterior plastic faded trim that nothing made it change before, alcohol, alkaline degreasers nothing before I dressed it, since the dressing will be just a temporary fix fading back to ugly in a few weeks. After 3 weeks and no dressing, plastic is still black. It took no effort just rubbed it with MF towel and it changed color instantly. No clue if it will last but I may dress it before it fades again. Maybe you can try it and make a video? I think some of the rubber trim also has a clear coat and I wonder if once is removed or gone it may not be restored just cleaned and dressed frequently to keep it from getting so bad, it will need to be replaced. I tried to search about this a couple of years ago and could not find any information to clean/restore or fix it. Thanks for the video Chelsea it is good to see good results like the ones you had.
I just got Meguiars 39 and used it for my father in laws tanneu truck bed cover and it did a fantastic job of cleaning it. I got it in case I get wax on trim but so far I'm loving it.

Adam's tire and rubber cleaner sprayed into a microfiber towel works fantastic!
are you saying to clean it with the majic eraser? or afterwards to coat it?

Might not be perfect, but this is 1000x than before. Well done.

I got a lot of that off with a power washer before.

you kiliing it chelsea keep grinding
Superior products magic muscle 4:1 with a microfiber towel worked great for me
I used scotchbrire and grease elbow and finish it with tyre or bumper blackened fir finishing , oh don't forget to open the window while doing it.
That’s gotta be a Highlander. I own one(same color too) and have the same exact issue. Car looks brand new inside and out besides this trim. Hopefully this works!
Great video and useful tips. I like that you find unique techniques that are inexpensive.

Try a rubber cleaner like adams tire and rubber or a heavily diluted tire cleaner with a short pile microfiber.
Good job. Good to see car care is not just a guy thing. Btw you’re obsessed like my mate :)

My experience is, it works best on the hard textured plastic and smoother trim could be problematic down the future.

thank you! this worked
I use spray nine for lots of stuff. But have to make sure it’s not too tight a space, the fumes. Oooooowwweeeeee!
Thanks for this Chelsea. Exactly what I was looking for.
Cool! Really quality video and info.

How about using the harbor freight steamer?
I Just bought the Chemical guys Trim Clean and The Trim Gel Hoping it Might Work On My Trim Pieces?...🤔😦
How’d it go?
Yeah did it work?
@@andrewb.glisnin2266 Yes it Did!!
Always learn something new when I watch your videos!
Great Video. I'll do this on my car
Does this stop the dirt coming off onto a micro fiber ?
It can help reduce the build up but some trims this is always an issue
Good job

It can work but it takes common sense. Steam can also damage the clear if you don't know what you're doing.
@@attention2detailswchelsea Thank you for letting me know. I wasn't sure about that part.
Nice work and great tips.
Thank you, this is helpful.
Wow you’re awesome
Thanks for the tip
Will this method work on the larger trim right above it between the windows?
It can but I normally polish those after if its not porous with 3d Speed
Can you use any APC to go with the magic eraser?
Yes
@@attention2detailswchelsea great! Thank you so much for the feedback and the video😊
JUST HIT IT WITH THAT 409!!!!!!! 😭😭😂

Chelsea, would bathroom products from Home Depit such as Zep Mold and Mildew cleaner work?
It might. That's a good idea to try next time!
what about make up foundation?
To remove it?

AT £20 A BOTTLE YOU COULD REPLACE ALL YOUR WINDOW TRIM FOR LESS
"magic eraser" is a simple sponge. Just saying. A common non-magic eraser titled sponge does exactly the same job.
No it’s not. Apparently you have never used one.
