out of curiosity and budget wise why didn't you put the front springs in the back and add a spacer to get the rest of the lift? Thought front to rear netted around 5" of lift.
Idk if anyone posted this already but you can get a factory gas tank skid pretty cheap or a ZJ. I actually took a 26 gallon tank and the gas tank skid and put it on my XJ.
Have you used the winch with any big pulls? Most guys sleeve the front bumper horns into the frame rail a bit, rather than just butt weld them to the thin stock bumper.

Learned a bunch to be honest a lot of info I didn’t have . I don’t have any Jeep friends so my zj build has been a trail and error process . Do u still have the front sway bar mounts that hold it to the frame ?
Everything I have read says the TJ and ZJ rear axles are not an exact swap. It’s said the shock locations, spring perches and top control are mounts are different.
Do you happen to know if I was to swap a high pinion Dana 30 from an xj into my zj could I reuse the driveshaft? Or would the high pinion axle require a different length driveshaft
On the front bumper horns that you welded in, did you weld them straight to that sheet metal cover where it meets the frame or did you cut that out to expose the ends of the frame and weld them in?
I know its not ideal but due to time constraints could i cut the rockers off my zj one day, drive to work and back and weld the 2x6 in the next day? as long as i don't go flexing it out right???? i mean those rockers don't do much anyways i think.

Hey, hello 😁 Just a quick question I have a 3.5 inch lift kit installed on my zj right now, can i put my front springs in the back of my zj and only buy the front ones? If so, what size do you think I should buy for the forwards? Thank you very much, I hope your answer.
With the stock springs I've seen people do the front to rear swap and add a 3-inch spring up front. So that would get you to roughly 6.5 inches of lift, but that might vary a bit with spring rates. Another thing to note would be that if you add that much lift you're going to need a lot more than just Springs. You're going to need to upgrade to long arms (assuming you haven't already), extending the driveshaft and of course the slip yoke Eliminator, and then extended brake lines, longer socks, etc etc.
I put my stock front springs an put them under the back of my zj an put a xj rerend under the back of it an I made it a 5speed jeep to its Ben doing everything iv wanted it to do sofar
I just got my ZJ back on the road after 4.5" lift, upper/lower arms, upgraded steering arms, 249-242 swap. And whatever else is added...1998 5.2 144,000 miles. Black wagon wheels and 32's I was stoked about driving it...it drives like a sloppy tractor...shakedown cruise is disappointing....I have my work cut out...kinda bummed...
Guessing you're still running a short arm, go to a long arm and it's a totally different story. The problem is running that angle on shorts, despite the length, the mounting location is your problem. Long arms are of course much more work, but I did mine in a weekend in my parking lot. Started with a short arm 4.5 also, even added a drop bracket kit to help drive better and it helped but the long arm is the key. Besides, you can then go as high as you want. Drives so good now, my wife steals it for her daily city/ highway driver during the week, now over 6" locked both ends on 35's. Long arm, It's all the difference.
@@yjjeeper1 Thanks for commenting! I will wish for a long arm kit. Christmas 2021 ? Momma is already frustrated! I aftermarket short arms, so the are a touch longer than OEM. @@49Fordproject I'd certainly check it out, be sure to check your trans mount area and especially your drive shafts when you do. They commonly fail a U-joint right after a lift because they've spent their whole life handling pressure at a certain angle, and then suddenly all of the pressures at more of an extreme angle than before. When we had ours like yours, it was nearly impossible to keep it straight and not look drunk. Drop brackets on the front do and would help you, but then you'd be investing more money into that set up and it only helps a little. My wife went from terrified to drive it anywhere for anything, to now always going 80+mph on a bigger lift and tires, and loves driving it now. If there's any questions you have, feel free to ask if you like. I've built many lifts on many different Jeeps.

With the stock springs I've seen people do the front to rear swap and add a 3-inch spring up front. So that would get you to roughly 6.5 inches of lift, but that might vary a bit with spring rates.
