Hey Mrmdovr2, its hard to say. i think the skin tightness may have something to do with it. But this may help, make sure the part of your hand that make contact with the drum is on the skin and not just hitting the rim. It does take awhile to develop the sounds.
Oh ok I thought as much, I think I'm starting to get it down, another thing, is there a specific way to tune the congas? It's to my liking right? Or is it usually to a set tone/note? Typically how tight is the head? Is there a way to know if the head is any good? Cause I'm using my church's congas and I suspect that the head is pretty worn out due to the fact that it's not very hard in the center..
I'm trying to make the open tone..exactly how you're doing it, but i don't get any responce from the head, could it be that its too tight? I can get the open tone if I let my fingers hit the drum and rebound off, but thats your open slap...I'm kinda lost here..help please? :D
Wicked... Sooooo great, thank you Brendan! Why do my cheap millennium congas sound deeper and more resonant that yours (...Not in a nice way). Is this money, or technique?
Excellent lesson. Really clear and helpful for a total beginner like me. Thanks.
Hey man, i love your conga videos. Could you make more with Hand drums ?? Your videos are very helpful. Cheers !
THX for all the videos, great :-)

hey sorry for the late reply, yes it could be both or it could be tuning
"Like slapping someone in the face?" Using violence to express tonality achievement is not where we need to go with this. Otherwise very encouraging.
I can't really hear what is distinctive about the bass conga.
the camera mic isn't great quality so that doesn't help just stick with and you'll get it
