Sinossi . A gentleman wants to have fun with his girlfriend, but needs someone to look after his invalid uncle. In the park he comes across a tramp (Charlie Chaplin), hires him and goes off with his sweetheart (0042).
The new caregiver takes his care recipient for a walk and stops in front of the Pier Bar, Charlie would like to have a drink and asks the old man for some money, which he refuses. The caregiver takes the invalid back to the pier, where he finds a beggar asleep and since his assistant is also asleep, Charlie steals the sign and the cup from the beggar and places them on his uncle, so he can scrape together some money and go to the bar for a drink. When the couple returns, the girl finds her uncle begging and leaves her boyfriend in the lurch (05:30).
The beggar wakes up and finds his sign and cup in the stranger's hands and starts bickering. Returning from the bar, Charlie manages to settle the quarrel and sits down on a bench. (8:02) Here he is joined by the girl left alone and, ignoring who she is, begins to flirt with her. When his nephew returns and discovers them, the brawl begins, which invariably ends up involving a policeman.
