Im starting to think it's actually best to just focus on driving the route fast, instead of focusing on having to beat the other players, cuz you get more stressed when focused on the players

For the most part yes. Beginners tend to forget how to drive the track fast and just focus on regaining and maintaining their position.
Using the ideal racing lines is not practical either because while it might be better for faster lap times, it will leave you vulnerable to attacks and affect you more negatively when players use objects to their advantage.
Best option is a combination. Drive the track as fast as you can when possible but don't forget to adjust your lines for defense.

@@cokie4760 Blocking on a straight when the other has greater speed is dirty. I think what you mean is defending in a turn. Defending and blocking are two different things.

I usually play races by doing phone>quick job>series>race series.
In this race series they usually only rotate 8-12 tracks so that's why I race the same tracks so often.
