How to Make a Tail #Mechanism: Zathura's Zorgons
    Buy FULL COURSE: bit.ly/CabMechBscYT
See how ZATHURA's reptilian aliens, the Zorgons, got their tails in this excerpt from "Cable Mechanism Basics - Tentacles" with Creature FX mechanic Richard Landon (Pacific Rim, Jurassic Park, Aliens). Landon reveals how he constructed a functional, fluid, and flexible Zorgon tail mechanism with affordable cable, a nylon "spine," and threaded insert standoffs, to keep everything aligned.

Thank you for making this course. I have a question. I assume you are using the pulley system attached to a bigger servo. I also assume the servo does not have a position (it moves left, right, velocity). If the tail has moved from its original position (someone moved it left or right) while the system was shut down, how do you reset it when it comes online? I believe the cables in your system cannot move when pulled/pushed by hand (if it's connected to a servo) but still want to know if you can provide a solution.

Would it be possible to make this into a naga tail? As in a tail that appears to replace the legs?

You could probably do something like that for a wheel chair user. By building a tail with Omni tails on the bottom.

What kind of nylon do you guys use for that kind of flexibility? This mechanism is awesome!

How would you change the configuration for a tail that starts out hanging down, but then the rest of the long tail is mainly upright?
