Great review Scott. When I was young and you didnt have a tuning fork... here in Canada ...we used to just pick up the phone....the dial tone was a 4-40 A note.
GREAT video on a GREAT tuner. Korg makes a lot of great gear (I have a metronome of theirs that works like a real champ). And yep...the strobe mode does look like Kit!
Do you use the johnson tuner regularly? It's all I have for my setup beside my smartphone app (gstring). Was wondering if thought it was good enough or garbage.
I got the unit recently, but it brings noise into the signal even it's being placed on a different route, like guitar -> splitter(one out to pedals and amp/cab, other out to tuner). If I unplug the cable to tuner, the noise disappeared, and the noise comes back as soon as I plug in the cable even the tuner is not powered on
Scott, sorry to put this here. What is your opinion on the new Variax Standard Guitar by Line 6? Can you do a revue? Thanks for your great lessons and reviews.
Great video, will this tune a 6 string Burns Baraccuda 6 string bass/baritone guitar, I have one, but not played bass for a long time and would love to know if it's easy to tune, it's currently just sitting in its case, out of tune any help would be appreciated, hope you still monitor these posts. So I have a DTR-2000, and just have a question. When you use the 2000, the manual says it defaults to 440hz, so wouldn't you only need to calibrate it if you want something different/specific? Like, does the default 440Hz drift out of spec over time needing calibration to get it back in proper spec? Or is the point that you want to ideally calibrate it with something that's more accurate than the 2000? Because I know 440Hz for example can vary very slightly with different tuners obviously, so you obviously want to calibrate it with something you feel is super accurate right?(Unless its just something specific you are calibrating for obv) And also, say Im making a record, and only using my single DTR-2000 to tune all the instruments, I probably don't need to calibrate it, unless like i said, I feel like its out of spec(drifted off what I'm tuning at) or just want to calibrate it with something I feel is more accurate right?
Hey Scott quick question Do you know anything about the new version of the (korg pitch-black pro)? if you do are they anywhere close ( I am guessing sense there 100 bucks probably not. thanks
Adam Litchfield They look cool, but even in the racks......taking them from heat to cold or the other way around...they tend to crack in half a LOT. Made of plastic and that is a no-no for gear that will be traveling (which is what rack mount gear is USUALLY for). If you were going to put it in a rack and just leave it at home, I'm sure it would do fine. Korg does a great job on their tuners, they simply messed up this time on going with the plastic. I hope they do it again with a metal housing.
These are AWESOME. I've got a Pitchblack and it's pretty groovy, just not awesome. PLUS, the plastic construction of the Pitchblack is pretty scary. I keep the DTR-2000's in my racks and my Pitchblack at home and it is just a spare for folks to use if they stop by for a visit and want to tune up the same time as me. lol
I "need" an accurate and reliable rack tuner and was going to get the Pitchblack Pro. The plastic(ky) structure wouldn't bother me since it's for home use only. But the lack of features compared to DTR-2000 is a big downside. While considering my options I stumbled on a mint DTR-2000 (original package included) on a local used market. Ofcourse I remembered this review and your words so I bought it. 120€ well spent I'd say.🙂
groovydjs Am I confused on that point then, Groovy? I thought you were teaching us to tune it (the G string) a few cents short in the You're Tuning Your Guitar Wrong video.
Elf Wyatt It does, just not 15 cents, that would be horrible. That amount is only for pedal steel guitars. I have you tune the G-D-A and Low E Flate BARELY in the video though.
I'm going to open up a Sticky Note to start keeping track of all your Groveisms as I encounter them. Someday I'll send you a copy to see if you would like to correct my "misunderstandings". There will be a few - my ear hears things backasswards often. Downloading my lessons I'm enjoying the titles going by: Klezmer Guitar Leads Vol 3, and Sea Chantys and Fishing Songs look really interesting. We really need a free video on Making your Own Guitar Picks, but please don't - I won't be able to afford them afterward if you do. (After watching the Ebay price on Korg DTR-2000 rise 200% after your review - Damn, I wanted one.) Keep it up, Scott - every day with a new groovy video keeps me smiling. I've got smiles stored up for weeks ahead, now. Thanks for all.
SCOTT! I have this same tuner! I love it, had it for years, it is great. I bought some of those clip on tuner deals and I was going to give them to people (bought 3 different kinds) but I realized they would be just a shitty for someone else, so I pitched a couple of them and threw the rest of them in a box. Hopefully I never come across them again. They work great if you don't care if you are really in tune or not, and if someone thinks they are going to be able to actually play in a rehearsal or god forbid, a stage, FORGET IT. Fuck those pieces of crap.
Your videos have taught me more about guitar than I ever could imagine. Thanks Scott.
Thank you for explaining the strobe mode I wasnt sure what that was.
Great review Scott. When I was young and you didnt have a tuning fork... here in Canada ...we used to just pick up the phone....the dial tone was a 4-40 A note.
Rob Dillon I don’t know if it’s different in Canada but in the US the phone makes a perfect B flat and that’s how we poor folks used to tune.
GREAT video on a GREAT tuner. Korg makes a lot of great gear (I have a metronome of theirs that works like a real champ). And yep...the strobe mode does look like Kit!

Scott, I was two days old the day your band played in Cardiff!
Oh it has an out! Ok that's good because I use my master outs on my line mixer for sampling in stereo.
Hey Scott. If the Bridge and the Neck report differently (Flat, Sharp) which should we tune with?
I got the unit recently, but it brings noise into the signal even it's being placed on a different route, like guitar -> splitter(one out to pedals and amp/cab, other out to tuner). I kinda wish they had a button for changing from blue to red leds in dtr-1000 versions. Very little thing, but the red led pleases me more.

groovydjs thanks Scott. how have you been by the way. hope the health is improving for you. have a great day my friend
Do you know how this compares to the Korg Pitchblack rack tuner? Also would you reccomend this for in the studio?

I bought this tuner locally for $115
That’s crazy I paid 60
Oh darn, Scott, I wanted to watch how you tune your G string. Will it tell you if you're 15 cents short?
Elf Wyatt Yes, it will show you dead on if you tune 15 cents flat for some reason. I never tune a G string to that though.

Elf Wyatt I actually show the Pick Punch pick maker in one of my videos. lol It's the video about guitar picks.
I got one for 40 plus shipping
SUPER SWEET DEAL !!!
