Same. I get that it's a reflection of the times, and that Dick York portrayed the role masterfully.... but be in a relationship with a jerk who tries to deemphasize everything you are, and you'll see what an asshole the character of Darrin truly is. **ALL** conflict in the series, revolves around his inability to tame his ego, and simply accept the fact that he's not the all-controlling master of everything around him. From the teaser-pic it looks like Samantha has gotten her forehead marked for Ash Wednesday … which *should* make a witch shrivel … if tongue-speaking evangelicals had their way.
Happily for everyone, that entire show was about *fantasy* witches and beings, which allowed for quirky entertainment but also some basic lessons about acceptance and getting along. Good vibes, good hearts.
I’ll always love this show: at its best it was clever and well-written/acted. It remains a stalwart production in the canon of superb American comedy.

Elizabeth is doing a riff on Jackie Gleason's Ralph Kramden from "The Honeymooners" -
    - he was always yelling at his wife, threatening to send her "To the moon! - One of these days, Alice!"
( Alice still ruled their household, despite her husband's threats of physical violence and other verbal abuse. She always had the perfect comedic comeback line to put Ralph back in his place. Alas, if only it were so easy in real life for people in abusive relationships. )

This is an example, among many in seasons three thru five, where Dick York's Darrin IS mean, bordering on being abusive. This is an aspect of his character that Dick York didn't like. I liked his Darrin in seasons one and two.
Personally, Dick Sargent's Darrin was far kinder to Sam, directing his anger at Sam's family. What i love is his Darrin and Sam generally discussed an issue, like a mature couple that's been married a while.
    Now to my main topics.
Sam told Darrin that she'd try to do what he wanted her to do, live a "normal" life. But with her family's interference and Larry's bullying, at times, it wasn't easy. For example, Larry wanting to use Tabitha in campaigns, first when Endora put a spell on Tabitha to make her talk and Sam's Father put a love spell on Adam, and at other times, to use figures from history, in campaigns, against Sam and Darrin's advice.
In NOBODY'S PERFECT, it might have been interesting if the Witches Council were around. I wonder how the writers would've dealt with that concept. I would've loved a representative from the Cojncil to pop in, after freezing the client and Larry, and reminds Sam of the exploitation of their child isn't exactly a good thing. Sam was against it, but Darrin's control freakish side came out.
It would've been fun to see Darrin freak out in front of a supperior being. 😀 I love it when Sam threatened to report her Father to the Warlock Shakespearean Society and have him expelled. That hit Maurice right where it hurt. 🙂

In the episode SAM IN THE MOON, which this clip is from, Sam and her Mother are about to leave. Sam left the refrigerator door open and its contents on the table. Electricity was fairly cheap back then, compared to today. She did put things away when she got back, and before putting the vaccuum cleaner on automatic. 🙂
Love it, instant grime on Sam and her clothes
    🙂
Mr. angry Grouch comes in all ticked off. He dwarfed Sam's anger.

It’s funny how happens in Charmed where Grams cursed her engagement ring so she wouldn’t be a wife like Samantha hiding who she is to be a housewife. Then even Cole says it’s dangerous for a woman like Phoebe to be a housewife.
