Thank you so much James, I’m pleased you enjoyed it! It’s a fantastic garden and it’s great to be able to have a chat with somebody that’s both entertaining and informative when I watched it back, I couldn’t have done it without Mark’s input 👍
This is incredible! I think you should rename the video to "Tropical Garden & Greenhouse in the UK Tour", or something like that, because I couldn't find this video when searching for tropical greenhouses in Europe, I actually found it through a forum. It deserves way more views! :)
Thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words and feedback. I want to keep the Mark's Crazy Tiki Garden in the title as it's probably the most popular series of videos on my channel but I'm sure you'll enjoy the return visits and seeing how the greenhouse has evolved! I might add the tour and UK into the title though, I hadn't considered people like yourself coming for the greenhouse specifically so thank you very much.
It is indeed! Yes, it's a lovely space and I'm pleased it's been developed in a way that does it justice. I'm sure I'll be back for another video soon!
@@garethjessup3646 Thanks Gareth, I appreciate it and know what you meant! The video definitely flowed well with the interaction. I’ll have to see to see what we can do in the future!
Probably your best video yet. I totally agree that the longer you do this kind of gardening the more you simplify it. 80% of my garden is now plants that look after themselves and then just feel the gaps with some more special plants.
Thank you very much, it was an enjoyable one to put together and Mark is very generous with his advice and experiences so I’m pleased that comes through. Yes, I’m with you there, it’s definitely a balance but that’s the way I see my garden evolving too. 100% tropical jungle effect but with less winter worries and summer faffing!
Hi, yes, it's definitely an interesting one when it flowers. I've seen it in a couple of larger gardens but you're right, it hasn't really made a name for itself amongst the tropical style gardeners. I suppose a big part of the emphasis is on big summer growers or more overtly exotic looking evergreens but there's definitely a lot of room for plants with seasonal interest like Edgworthia too.
I love this guy's garden. The mixture of the clean sharp looking Japanese section contrasting with the cool jungle area. I love the curved shapes going throughout. Going back to basics I absolutely get. Being more chilled about overwintering I buy 100%. His brahea armata is classy set up tall. Bananas look superb. 👌. Really enjoyed the tour. Superb. Best thing was hearing the chat between the two of you. Great work 👍
Thank you very much Mr Calzone, I had a feeling you’d be a fan of this one! Mark has definitely got a great mixture of the sharp / modern lines and then the rustic / jungle style, it’s a cool garden. I’m pleased the chat came across well, thank you!
The spheres/planets look great..funnily enough in Costa Rica the indigenous tribes did the same and you can find stone spheres just dotted around the jungle
They do indeed and that’s something I didn’t know! Very interesting! They’re definitely a strong design feature and focal points that tie in well with the steel arches.

Hi Karen, thank you very much for stopping by and watching! That's great too know, Mark has definitely done a top job of creating the feel of a garden from a much hotter country. A lot of these are far tougher than you might expect but still, the design and care of the garden really is incredible.

Big up Mark! This tree fern forest is fantastic! So many huge and impressive beauties there. Never seen a Brassaiopsis mitis before! Amazing shape of the leaves, and of the other strange plant beside it (20:50) The Brahea armata is superb, so blue and elegant (26:09). Impressive banana trees and huge Bromeliads! Congrats and thank you to both of you! Cheerio!💚
I’m pleased you enjoyed this one Bernard, it’s a cracking garden isn’t it! The other plant in question looks like the Pseudopanax Moas Toes if that’s it? Definitely a curious looking thing! As always you’ve highlighted a few of my favourites too, thanks as always for watching 😃
Regarding the Tree ferns - I never water mine for 6-months continuously from April~September and they never suffer. We only get approx 500mm of rain yearly. Tree ferns i grow are: Dicksonia fibrosa / Cyathea medullaris.
Hi and yes, completely agree that they can be OK, I definitely cut back on the watering through winter. I do think it completely depends on the weather, location and how sheltered the ferns are though, we seem to get a lot more drier spells with winds in winter now which definitely increases the need for water. I always like to give them a quick soak when it’s dry and mild so they’re not already stressed if they have to be wrapped for a prolonged freeze. I think there’s an argument for optimal care to get them to survive or thrive but if the varieties you grow suit that rhythm in your garden then keep it up!
Awesome, thanks Samie! I'm pleased you enjoyed it and there's definitely some great ideas in Mark's garden. We're probably a little bit milder than you but a similar latitude so a lot of the plants should do equally well for you.
Awesome, thank you! The greenhouse is amazing isn’t it! I’m sure everyone watching would have it planted up with their own selection of botanical rarities but fair play to Mark for really going for it, it looks incredible 😃
@@thetropicalgardenproject Fair play, I probably would too! The bromeliads are incredible and when the various aroids size up it’ll be an even more amazing place to hang out!
Thank you very much Karl, I’ll pass that onto Mark. He’s done a great job, it’s certainly shaping up to be an amazing garden that’ll get better every year!
Thank you very much Nick! Mark didn’t protect them last year although I suspect he’d have to protect the sikkimensis in a colder winter. He leaves the basjoo to it.
Now that's impressive! More please. Can you ask your interviewed how they came to know so much? Such as did they train anywhere? What is their job ? Just wondering if it has any relation to their knowledge and passion.
It certainly is! I wanted to focus on a garden tour for this vid but I’m sure Mark and his garden will be making an appearance again. Great ideas for questions and I can answer on Mark’s behalf, his job is not related to horticulture and like myself is self taught with a mixture of passion, enthusiasm and trial & error!
Hi George, just a quick question I'm thinking of buying livistona decipiens is it worth it? And do you have one ? Marks tropical wonderland is amazing. Could you do a long video on the saga palms. Your videos our fantastic Cheers Chris
Hi Chris and thank you. I don’t have any experience of the Livistona unfortunately, I suspect they’re maybe worth a go for sheltered areas but not something I’d personally risk outside here. I’ll see what I can do with the Cycads but I don’t really do much with mine, just keep it in a cool greenhouse for winter.
Great video And love the banter you have when filming.some really cool plants been looking for miscanthus lutarioriparia for ages but delivery cost nearly twice as much as the plant so cant do it lol cant seem to find seeds either,do they set seed? Keep the videos coming.
Thanks Danny, pleased you enjoyed it! We both got it from Pan Global Plants, is that where you’ve been looking at it? I don’t think they set seed here in the U.K. but not entirely sure.
@@GeorgesJungleGarden yeah thats where i seen them 20quid delivery to here though for a 2l plant might just have to stick to my giganteus for now and treat myself next year haha
As in the canes used around the garden? I don't think it's been a particular issue for him, but I'll ask next time I'm round. It is a lovely garden but keeping it top condition is certainly a labour of love, I'm excited to see how it develops over time!
I had no idea we had cactus that are hardy in the UK! (with a winter raincover im guessing) Do you know what the cacti in the first part of the video are called George?
Hi Michael, yes, there are some hardy ones - if you Google ‘Paul Spracklin Garden’ you’ll see some beauties! You’re completely right, they need good drainage and ideally shelter from the winter wet. I’ll check with Mark which ones he grows, I know Echinopsis terscheckii is a popular one but there’s definitely a few worth experimenting with in sheltered spots!
Hi Russell, after a lot of saving and selling some bits off I’ve recently moved to the Canon R5. This was a mixture of R5 for the main tour and some older HD footage from my R6. Both amazing cameras once you know their strengths and weaknesses. Had I mentioned they were Canon or was it a guess based on the colours?
Hi George, thank you for your reply. You had mentioned it in one of your videos a while ago but couldn't remember which one. Mit get an r6 if I get the money together. Would you say there is alot of difference between the r6 and r5?
@@russellgreaves9020 Oh right yes. I’ve always used Canon and really rate them but in all honesty other than budget the biggest factors are what you want to use the camera for and if you have any lenses already. Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm all make nice cameras in the same bracket. The R6 is very nice and for me the main reasons to upgrade were that the megapixels were occasionally a bit limiting and the R5 does better slow motion video. Apparently there’s an R6 mk2 on the way soon so that might bring the prices down if you’re not in a huge rush and the R10 is also a good buy lower down.
Hi Neil, just replied to your other comment but coconut palms have a reputation for being tricky to grow here. They're tender but even when you bring them inside for winter they have quite high light and heat requirements unfortunately! Don't let me put you off though, go for it if you fancy a challenge!
😂 Apologies, we took our two dogs with us and Mark has three so it was pretty crazy in there when they overheard us! I couldn’t really edit it out unfortunately so we just kept going with it as we only had an hour and a half to get the video wrapped up. Dachshunds are definitely full on dogs!
A bit of feedback for ya. Fantastic garden, but i ended up turning the sound off as yapping dogs drive me INSANE. Couldn't focus on what was being said. A lot of folk on the autism spectrum are like this. So food for thought, perhaps?
Hi and thanks for the feedback - apologies about that and I'm sorry it affected your enjoyment of the video. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot I could do about it on the occasion, Mark's very busy so it's really a case of making the most of the time I had there, but there are some return visit videos on my channel which have a lot less distractions. I do want to keep improving the audio of my vids as much as I can and respect that if something is distracting for me then it's likely to be completely off-putting for others so I'll keep doing the best I can with my time and resources to make my videos as enjoyable and informative as possible. I appreciate your honesty.
@GeorgesJungleGarden Thank you George. I appreciate your response! It's a tough one, as most folks just tune it out. I REALLY wish I could! Nails on a chalk board for me (which bizarrely I don't mind 😄).
No worries, I'll do what I can! I generally keep our dogs inside as they run around the garden barking when I'm outside for a good while and that's definitely worse than nails on a chalk board for me too!
@@GeorgesJungleGarden George thinking Ensete Maurelli would be a good addition to my garden, in your experience how big do the leafs get limit space boundary fence 🤔
@@PaulConnor100 They’re definitely a plant that’s worth the winter faffing and mine grow quite close to my fences. In all honesty they don’t have a huge wingspan for the size of their leaves, they do stay quite upright when they get bigger. It’s worth googling pics of them to get a bit of an idea of look at the ones I’ve got if you skip through my last garden tour vid.

Brilliant video George thank you
Thank you very much Ken, pleased you enjoyed it!
Thoroughly enjoyed this one. 👌
Thanks Kris, pleased you enjoyed it, it was fun putting it together too!
Awesome!
Thanks, I’m pleased you enjoyed it, Mark’s done an amazing job!
Great video guys, plenty of Knowledge to soak up 😊
Thanks Paul, pleased you enjoyed it! Mark did a great job with his contribution for sure 😃
This video and garden are fantastic. Great video George.
Thank you very much Nick, pleased you enjoyed it!
Stunning. ❤
It certainly is, a fantastic design with amazing plants and hard landscaping!
Wow ! Very inspiring garden & advice , may even try a few ideas up here in Cheshire :)
Awesome, thanks Samie! I'm pleased you enjoyed it and there's definitely some great ideas in Mark's garden. We're probably a little bit milder than you but a similar latitude so a lot of the plants should do equally well for you.
Nice
Thanks Henry, it’s definitely coming together well and I’m excited to see what Mark does with his future projects!
Fantastic garden loved all of it. Especially that greenhouse 👌🏼
Awesome, thank you! The greenhouse is amazing isn’t it! I’m sure everyone watching would have it planted up with their own selection of botanical rarities but fair play to Mark for really going for it, it looks incredible 😃
@@GeorgesJungleGarden I like the variety he had my dream is to have a plant room in my garden full of aroids similar to this
@@thetropicalgardenproject Fair play, I probably would too! The bromeliads are incredible and when the various aroids size up it’ll be an even more amazing place to hang out!

Very nice garden! Greetings from Germany!
Thank you very much Karl, I’ll pass that onto Mark. He’s done a great job, it’s certainly shaping up to be an amazing garden that’ll get better every year!
Grest video, just watched it again for inspiration. Does mark have a channel too? Apologies if ive missed it!
Thank you very much Daniel! Nahh he doesn’t but I’m sure he’ll be popping up on mine again at some point soon 👍
great video, amazing garden. dose Mark protect his musa basjoo and sikkimensis in winter .
Thank you very much Nick! Mark didn’t protect them last year although I suspect he’d have to protect the sikkimensis in a colder winter. He leaves the basjoo to it.
Nice! Great tour of a very interesting garden.
What is the one in the black pot at the far left at 2:56 with long green stems?
Thank you very much! I'll check with Mark to get an exact ID and get back to you ASAP.
When I found your channel I had no idea North Lincolnshire was a tropical area! haha thanks George excellent content again
Haha yes, it’s amazing what’s around when you start looking! I’ve known Mark for some time and I’m definitely amazed at what he’s created up here 😃
And thanks, pleased you enjoyed the vid, it was definitely great having somebody to bounce off and give their advice and info on the plants!
@@GeorgesJungleGarden Close to freezing tonight around here George, should I be worried?
@@mrchuffy6535 What’s your minimum forecast temperature, it’s around 6 here?
@@GeorgesJungleGarden Yeah I'm just down the round, weather forecaster said 6 close to freezing for some!
Hi George, just a quick question I'm thinking of buying livistona decipiens is it worth it? And do you have one ?
Marks tropical wonderland is amazing. Could you do a long video on the saga palms.
Your videos our fantastic
Cheers
Chris
@@OssyDL Ahh right yeah, definitely wait and get it with some other plants in spring then!
Excellent video, does mark have a garden Instagram or ever do open gardens? Thanks
Hi and thank you very much! I think Mark is looking to have open gardens in the future but you can find him over at @uktropicalgreenhouse until then!
How do he keep the bamboo mildew/mold free? Nice garden! Lot of work!
As in the canes used around the garden? I don't think it's been a particular issue for him, but I'll ask next time I'm round. It is a lovely garden but keeping it top condition is certainly a labour of love, I'm excited to see how it develops over time!
This would be me if I had money😅
Haha yes, you and me both!
I had no idea we had cactus that are hardy in the UK! (with a winter raincover im guessing)
Do you know what the cacti in the first part of the video are called George?
Hi Michael, yes, there are some hardy ones - if you Google ‘Paul Spracklin Garden’ you’ll see some beauties! You’re completely right, they need good drainage and ideally shelter from the winter wet. I’ll check with Mark which ones he grows, I know Echinopsis terscheckii is a popular one but there’s definitely a few worth experimenting with in sheltered spots!
Hi George what canon camera do you use. Cheers
Hi, could you tell me what the plant is at @4:19 please?
Hi Ted, I believe that is a Yucca filifera, a fast growing and beastly tree yucca.
Was your garden on GW? What date please George?
Hi, it was indeed, earlier this year. If you search for ‘George’s Jungle Garden BBC’ you’ll find a link to the section on the BBC site down there.
is it possible to grow a coconut tree ?
Hi Neil, just replied to your other comment but coconut palms have a reputation for being tricky to grow here. They're tender but even when you bring them inside for winter they have quite high light and heat requirements unfortunately! Don't let me put you off though, go for it if you fancy a challenge!
@@GeorgesJungleGarden
Thank You.
Is there a kennel nearby?
😂 Apologies, we took our two dogs with us and Mark has three so it was pretty crazy in there when they overheard us! I couldn’t really edit it out unfortunately so we just kept going with it as we only had an hour and a half to get the video wrapped up. Dachshunds are definitely full on dogs!
@@GeorgesJungleGarden It was not very far from the kennel since there were 5 dogs!
@@philippehoyez9398 Haha yes, pretty much! 😂
yo george do you now coroline locke
Hi, I do indeed! Are you Freddie?
@@GeorgesJungleGarden yeah
Hi, thanks for commenting. Good luck with your channel and videos!
@@GeorgesJungleGarden thx
Maybe just me but no sound
It’s working on mine but if anybody else has the same issue please let me know!
@@GeorgesJungleGarden sausages have an impressively loud bark!
Haha yes, they definitely do! They'd be terrifying guarddogs if they were bigger!
Wow. Everything about this video is amazing. Well filmed, great chat, top subject. 10/10.
So good you posted it twice, thanks haha 😃

Thanks Paul, pleased you enjoyed it! Mark’s done an amazing job, it’s coming together so well 😃
@@GeorgesJungleGarden George thinking Ensete Maurelli would be a good addition to my garden, in your experience how big do the leafs get limit space boundary fence 🤔
