    It's hard to justify calling the print quality "outstanding" and "amazing" when there are huge blobs in the corners of the calibration cube. This has been an issue on all the Ender 3 printers, and they still haven't fixed it. It would only take a small mod to their mainboard to enable the Linear Advance feature in Marlin which would then fix this problem. The whole reason I switched to Klipper on my E3V2 was because of the huge blobs on corners. It might not seem like a big issue if you are just printing stand-alone parts, but if you are printing parts that are meant to fit together,, then it is a real problem. Apart from that, good review as always, thanks for sharing your thoughts

    • @larrythehedgehog
      @larrythehedgehog 2 года назад +4

      I’ve printed tons of functional parts without linear advance and haven’t had problems. I just adjust the scale of the object in Cura by 0.5 percent.

    • @johnrobinson3642
      @johnrobinson3642 2 года назад +1

      @@larrythehedgehog If you're happy with that result, then that's all that matters. But I wasn't happy with it. If you print 2 of those calibration cubes that are designed to fit together in a confined space, then the cubes will only touch in the corners, and you end up with a great big gap in between the parts, and I just don't find that to be an acceptable solution. The point that I was making is that this has been a problem on all of the Ender 3 printers, and it is something that would be very easy for Creality to fix, they just need to add UART control of the stepper drivers. To me, it seems silly that they would add all new bells and whistles to make a $500 printer, but they still can't get the fundamentals right, As I said ealier, the whole reason I ditched Marlin and switched over to klipper on my E3V2 is that Klipper is able to solve this problem without the need for UART control of the stepper drivers.

    • @johnrobinson3642
      @johnrobinson3642 2 года назад +1

      @JCS Marlin has a built-in feature called Linear Advance which is aimed at fixing this issue, however, it requires that the mainboard have software control over the stepper-motor drivers to work, and Creality, in their wisdom, decided that software control wasn't necessary. This is why Creality printers still suffer from this problem to this day.
      Klipper is an alternative firmware for your printer. It is superior to Marlin in most aspects IMHO, however it requires a raspberry pi to run. Klipper has a similar feature to Marlin's Linear Advance called Pressure Advance, however, it does not require software control of the stepper drivers, and so will work with any of the Creality mainboards.
      It was exactly this issue that led me to ditching Marlin and moving over to Klipper, but Klipper has so many other benefits that it has just been win-win
      So, in Summary, to fix this issue on your ender, you either need to a) switch mainboards to one that has software control over the stepper drivers (most so), or b) Buy a Raspberry Pi and switch to Klipper.

    • @johnrobinson3642
      @johnrobinson3642 2 года назад

      @JCS I just set up Klipper on an Ender 3 pro a couple of weeks ago, and so I have the config files ready to go for you (depending on what mainboard you have). If they are of any use to you, reach out to me here and I will send them to you. In any case, good luck! PS Octoprint is good, but there are better options for use with Klipper. I would suggest looking at Fluidd. In fact, you can just down load a fluiddpi image, burn it to an sd card, and load up the config files, and you'd be up and running in no time

    Excellent Review, But if i may add suggestion
    With this price i believe creality can:
    1. Throw away the delrin wheel, its easy wear and tear also hassle to change it to PC wheel. Instead creality should use SGR rail like kingroon can use all 3 axis with linear SGR without robbing your wallet.
    2. use all linear rail SGR or HG on X&Y Axis
    2. Fanless PSU
    3. Silent Board fan
    4 . Bed Tramming feature on the Software
    5. Raspberry GPIO compatible port on board

      It's been proven a few times that Linear rails do not improve print quality over well adjusted, quality wheels. There are a few YT videos on this subject by well regarded people. such as Thomas, Teaching Tech,..ect. Linear rails make things easy to maintain. Quality wheels, properly adjusted produce excellent results.

    This is a great video. I wish I'd seen it when setting up mine. I will say there are a number of things I found difficult when setting up as this was my first 3d printer. However you covered more than anyone else I've seen when reviewing it. A rather large problem I found was that you cannot pause and resume prints. There's a bug in the included LCD screen where you cannot resume after putting a pause command in your gcode. It won't even resume if you use a timed pause. So you cannot do multi-color prints, print on fabric, add magnets, etc. This may not matter for some, but ut is one of the reasons I bought a Sonic Pad - which was a huge pain in the ass to get working (though your other video was invaluable once I *did* sort out the firmware issues.) I actually love the printer when it's working but I think consumer-ready is still a ways off for Creality. There a number of silly little things that could be fixed with better programming.

    Since you used some filaments that let off some nasty gases while printing, what did you do about ventilation?
    Also, I'm surprised that you are able to print ABS without a heated enclosure. How does this printer avoid the part warping off of the bed?
    A couple of minor corrections: When talking about power consumption, the correct term is Watts, not Watts per hour. Energy consumption, on the other hand, is measured in Watt-hours. Energy is the measurement of power used multiplied by time.
    Thanks for your very detailed review! I wish I had known the s1 pro was coming before I got the s1. If they have extruder+hot end upgrade, I'll be looking at that.

    Love the in depth review very helpful as I'm currently reviewing upgrading my existing ender 3 for an ender 5 plus but the fact that this is able to get up to 300c is definitely worth a look. Now I just need to decide what's more important print temp or print size 😂

    Excelent Video, I really like your clear pro and con section, also the Variety of materials and the messurement of the energy consuption. I think the videos coul'd be further improved by printing extreme hard test Items, with low clearance, overhangs etc., where printers do fail, so you can see when they fail and compare them in this categories.

    I bought two S1's without knowing a "pro" version was coming out. Definitely interested in the hot end upgrade so I can start printing in a wider range of materials.
    My S1's have been great, but recently I had a problem on one machine where the z rods somehow went out of sync and one side of the x-gantry rose to almost 15 degrees above the other. I had no idea it happened until a print job I ran came out badly. I ended up having to unscrew the collar at the top of one z-rod so I could turn it freely and bring the x-gantry back into level. Curious if any other S1 owners have experienced the same issue, and maybe discovered what the root cause might be?

    I have owned 16 printers but couldn’t figure out how to set the Z offset until I saw your video. The UI is horrific, and it’s a mystery why they didn’t just use the one from the S1 as you suggested. This is my first Creality printer. So far I love the other stuff about it.

    A really informative comparison video. Now I know why the Sprite hotend on the S1 Pro has a higher max temperature than the one on the S1. I will be printing LW-PLA and the S1 Pro is the one for this rather than the S1. Also the stand alone Sprite hotend available soon here in NZ is the 300c version, which I can install on my Ender 3, so I will have two printers for LW-PLA printing…Thanks much appreciated. Great Job very clear and informative glad to see kids are getting into 3d printing. I will say i have found to use sugar water sticks to all surfaces 4 to 1 ratio sugar to four parts water then heat up to mix and apply to surface, easy cleanup and pops off when part cools by itself. great job hope to see more from you guys.

    The only thing you forgot to mention in the differences is that the S1 pro has a spinning spool holder and the S1 does not

    This video is a terrific help to me, and I'm now completely hooked on your amazing reviews! I did a double-take when I saw how young you both are - smart as heck! I'd be beaming with pride if I had a daughter with even 25% of your smarts lol.
    Thanks for these amazing, well-crafted, in-depth reviews! and the videography is simply pro-fe-shun-al too :D Keep it up !
    P.S. I love when you say "Eiffel Tower" it's like "Challenge Extended!" hah. Totally an eating popcorn moment.

    Great video very informative. I do own the S1 and was debating getting the pro for exotic filaments so I don’t have to tinker with a new machine with limited aftermarket parts. However I do see on my S1 terrible bridging even with support and was wonder if you saw quality issues in areas of prints with bridges. I am going to fit a new part cool duct. To see if it improves thanks

    Excellent review. As a fresh and happy owner of CR-10 Smart Pro (that has pretty much the same features as Ender S1 Pro, but with bigger volume and some extras, like WiFi ...), I'm using this review as a great source of information. From my very short experience with CR-10 Smart Pro, most if not all pros and cons stated here apply to CR-10 SP too. Even touch screen has the same gpaphics. However, would be great to have real side by side comparison of these two printers - as far as I know there is no such review available right now for any Ender/CR-10. In my recent purchase decision process (S1 PRO or CR-10 Smart Pro) would have been great to see them tested and physically placed side by side. My final decision was mostly on availability basis (S1 Pro is not available here yet), but I was quite concerned of CR-10 SP size.

      Are you happy with the cr-10? I am debating which of the s1 pro vs cr-10 would be the right for me. I am a noobee to this as well, and have also been impressed with reviews on the Flsun v400, but not sure support communities are readily available as are the creality folks.
