if you want the sd card not upside down you have to use the printer in australia because its the other side of the world and everything there is upside down :)
Thats what I was thinking. It's good to keep that fact in mind...
HeHe 😉
I saved money and bought the 3S1 along with the same high temp hot end that's in the 3S1 Pro which cost me a whopping $28.00. I can do without the light, the touch screen, and the handle, and I wasn't too worried about the aesthetic differences on the front end of the machine. I basically have a 3S1 Pro and saved myself a Ton of Money. Great Review
Hi, I am thinking about doing the same thing. If I only buy an all metal heatbreak would I be able to print at 300 degres? Or I will also need to upgrade the thermistor and the firmware?
Power loss on my S1 had to be enabled by checking the box. Once I did that it worked perfect the 2x I tried it. I have both my V2 and S1 hooked up to UPS’ so it’s not a big deal but it does work on the unit I purchased. Thanks for the review.
I picked up a refurbished S1 for ~$300 after watching your original review and have really enjoyed it. I also own 4 MK3S+ and with the upcoming price increase on Prusa's I believe I would recommend grabbing 2 of these for the price of 1 MK3S+. Thanks for the great content & dad jokes.
I think the price on Prusa already inceased. We bought 14 Prusa's last week though (not knowing the price was going to increase)
Where did you get it from? Comgrow is $360.
@@jjsemperfi I looked up comgrow and have to thank you for this comment. Just purchased a refurbished 3 V2 Neo for a ridiculous discounted price.
I have both printers and are excellent. It's crazy, I use both a lot. Both are connected with octoprint through pi 4 very convenient.
Your bed leveling works???
@@buddybonbutt7510 I do bed leveling through the display of the printer. That works great. First manual and then the auto level mesh.
Had 2 S1’s from microcenter. Had to return both because they both required releveling after each print or else the prints would come out terrible. They printed decently when they worked but I got tired of tinkering with them after every print. My MK3S+ is arriving this week. Excited about it.
did you save the z offset after adjusting it ?
@@samlevasseur yes. Even tried silicon spring replacement mods on each. No dice.
Yeah I'm thinking I need to return mine too. Leveling the bed just doesn't exist on this printer. I think I'm done with creality. $500 and the thing doesn't even work
I have the S1 normal and the power loss works perfectly. The FIRST day I got it my filament broke and I tested the sensor, it worked fine. After a while, this is not a joke, I lost power in my apartment for a few minutes so I tested the power loss and it also worked just fine.
Wow reviewing a real product you can buy. Thank for a useful review on a real product I can and might buy. Yours and CHEP reviews of the Ender 3 S1 encouraged me to buy one.
You are a national treasure! Thank you for all of your hard work on these videos, as it shows. Milk just shot out of my nose about the upside down sd card issue (havent had milk in years). I came close to losing my mind a couple years back trying to figure that one out when i first started.
That blue benchy looks really awesome!! Congrats!!
260 hot end, 110 bed temp in an enclosure helped print Polymaker ASA Black for me on a lightly sanded smooth PEI sheet (600 grit).
Bryan love your presentation and dad jokes. Well done.
Thanks, Zimmy! Hey, your sticker still adorns my laptop. 👍
@@BV3D sweet !
We need an SD card adapter the has pins on both sides and works no matter if you put it in upright or upside down like a UBB-C or Lightning cable from Apple. Wait, did I just give away a million dollar idea? Yet another great video as always.
There are 3 ways to insert a UBS stick.
1. The correct way.
2.. The wrong way.
3. The First way you tried.
I should have an S1 Pro arriving on Monday, it will be my first 3D printer, I can't wait
For ASA Vision Miner Nano Polymer Adhesive is your best friend. Beds gotta be hot hot at 100-110 degrees. Little to no cooling. Keep it at 25% max after 3-5 layers. If the print is small enough you should be able to get away without an enclosure but for longer prints you’ll definitely need one.
Awesome, thanks! (also long time no see!) 👍
I have to wonder if flicking the switch is the same to the printer as losing power, I know it sounds weird, but perhaps unplug it from the wall instead? Or is there a setting you are missing that needs to be turned on?
For the power loss test, did you try killing the power by unplugging from the wall to simulate power loss vs using the power switch on the printer itself? It may count on residual power in the capacitors as the Prusa does I think to recognize the power has been lost and save the state to resume when power comes back on.
My understanding is that the Prusa PSU has a "power good" signal that the Einsy board monitors to know when power's been cut, so it can store information about the current layer and position before the capacitors are exhausted.
The Creality printers (and most others, I suspect) update a file on the card with the current layer number when they finish a layer. When the job finishes, they delete (or clear the contents of) that file. When the printer powers up, if it sees that file (or the file isn't empty), it assumes power was interrupted and gets the number of the last completed layer, so it knows where to resume from.
Got one ! My first 3d printer.
Right on 👍🏽 just ordered this tonight 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I find the draught shields work well with ASA, I use them for anything taller than 20mm and wider than 30mm.
It seems there is something wrong with every machine Creality puts out these days and I'm starting to think they do it on purpose knowing full well the community will fix it, but in the meantime, they get people talking about the machine and even if it is negative talk it benefits Creality in the long run
OK, cool. Thanks!
I use AquaNet Super Hold unscented for ASA. Less messy than sticks, and more evenly distributes.
I actually use it for everything now on PEI.
Great review
I did the power loss test on mine by both unplugging it an turning the switch off and I did this 3 or 5 times with 100% recovery everytime
The only thing I seem to have problems with is upgrading it to the Marlin Software maybe you could do a video on that?
But I love the new S1
Does printer recover automatically (continuing printing) or it requires any "touch my display"?
Great review and video as always Bryan 👌 👏 👍
Would also like to see a video on upgrading an ender 3 to the Sprite extruder pro kit with cr touch including settings and firmware?
Cheers Stuart
The filament run out test should be done this way.... Cut the PLA, Let machine stop... wait 3 hours... try to resume and see if the part stay put. : )
just what i needed thanks i just bought this printer today!
I enjoy your dad jokes. I heard a lot of them while watching 3dPN unboxing videos. Oh I printed an “ Orange Julius” with polytera matte orange. That filament is really really good. I have just about every color they have the marble is my favorite.
As many have said a great addition on the Enedr 3 s1 pro.
Being the newish machine there are very few videos out on either s1 or s1 pro.
I actually have two of each printer. If possible I would like see a viseo on how to do a software upgrade as well as one on adding the sprite head to the basic s1 with an upgrade. I bought 2 new heads for the s1 but cannot find reliable instructions on how to update the firmawe. Thanks
I'm thinking about getting one of these. Thank you for the review.
And, awesome shirt. I love going to my local Chuy's.
Thanks! Great video! Have you ever printed with SBS filament? It can be smoothed with D'Lamonine (Orange Peel extract!)
Hmm, the placement of the part cooling fan will make it difficult to see the nozzle when printing that first layer. I prefer the side fan vents so you get a clear view.
Same here. I like good nozzle visibility.
Thank you for the video! This is my first printer. I'm 2 prints in and I'm loving it. Next up on the setup list is to get my enclosure built and octo4a on a cheap android phone.
I actually had the screen freeze up on me right before leaving to work today, so I flipped the switch on the printer and found the resume print message by accident. I wonder why it didnt come up for your test
Bryan, I did have a power outage, S1Pro. I am too very skeptical on the power resume function before.
but somehow, when I reached my printer, after the outage ended, there is a "continue" and "cancel" button to choose.
I pressed the button and the printer heats up, continues to print like nothing happened
My oldest printer - an A8 (fire chaos bomb) finally failed in a way that it's probably beyond economic repair, so I'm looking for a replacement. This could well be a good fit with my dual filament Geeetech.
Thanks Brian now I am going to get one of these as I have sold my 3v2 and my 3 Max due to frustration with upgrades and continuous maintenance and upgrading of them I liked the max for the sheer size of printability but the reality of non uniform bed heating from design failure was Annoying to say the least Thank You
Interesting printer
Good points
Thanks for sharing your expirence with all of us 😀
That ASA Cat looks like it is having a head raising experience.
Once again another great review. My next printer is going to be a S1 pro I think I also want to put the sprite on my cr10-smart
I think the power off resume may work if not switched off and instead unplugged or switched off at surge protector.
Thanks, Bryan, for the snarky comments and another pretty decent review!
07:30 Power loss recovery. On my original S1, I have found power loss recovery is hit and miss.
Another change in design is the plastic trim on the front. It is missing, giving a much more functional look to the pro. The OES1 has a more consumer look to it.
Honestly, try the power loss recovery over a night and experience the blob of doom. The pressure advance deposit. It has dislodged several prints from the build plate. Both my Max and my OES1, of which I now have 2 plus my Max.
But as always, watching till the end, enjoying the puns (Are you sure you ain't Pierce Anthony? Look up his Xanth series) and being educated in an entertaining fashion.
@BV3D: Bryan Vines was the power resume feature fixed?
The power loss recovery dosnt work if you flip the switch you have to unplug it from the wall:)
When I unplug it, people say, "It only works when you turn it off."
When I turn it off, people say, "It only works when you unplug it." 😉
@@BV3D oh idk then i ordered the same machine should be here in 1-3 days but the one i have now also has plc and it works fine but not if i flip the switch off
I just got my ender 3 S1 pro, had some minor issues but mostly relating to tweaking it manually so its not truely out of the box experience. I had to tighten the wheels for the hotbed, as it was wobbly, ive scraped my hotbed once as my hour of leveling wasnt good enough apparently (which seeing as ive seen most youtubers hotbeds have a scratch on the left im in good company) AND had the extruder jam but im using a silk gold PLA and thats probably the name of the game for silk pla's. Took me over half an hour to take the thing apart fearing I was gonna mess it up while watching a youtube video but thankfully got the jam out (it was just a long strip of chewed up filament) and its printing fine.
So its not perfect out of the box for me, and if you get one know that it WILL require some hands on but if your okay with that ive had a good time. Though ive had some adhesion issues but again, thats the silk gold pla from AMOLEN being finnicky im sure. Also id like to note its been super humid here with my indoor monitor saying up to 75% humidity and I dont have a dryer yet so im sure its absorbing moister like a sponge right now. I did buy the creality enclosure and thinking about buying a giant thing of desecant and putting tubs of it on the inside of the enclosure around the printer to maybe try and dry it out a cheap way.
does flipping the switch actually simulate powerloss? i think you should unplug the printer with the switch on to actually simulate a power loss. maybe theres some difference in that...
Hi, there's no difference. Electrically, the switch is between the power supply's input and the power socket on the printer. Turning the switch off is the same as unplugging it.
It's funny: No matter how one tests this feature, if the switch is used, people suggest unplugging the power cord. If the power cord is unplugged, people suggest using the switch. 😉
I've spoken with the lead developer of the Marlin firmware, who says this feature can be fragile sometimes. What I think happens sometimes is that if power is cut while the printer is in the middle of updating the "I've gotten this far in the print" file, that file can get corrupted, leading to weird "resume" behavior.
An alternative: BigTreeTech makes a small circuit board with a bunch of capacitors on it, and a "power loss" signal. When power is cut, the capacitors are able to provide power to the main board for a second or two. Marlin can be compiled with an option to monitor an available input on the main board for a power loss signal and only then write the "You are here" file. I want to experiment with that, to see if there ARE any available input pins on a typical Creality board, or if they're all in use.
@@BV3D i was hoping that power switch might be something smarter than just an analog power cutoff. yeah, those excuses do not work, because they directly disable the feature in question... i too do not care about it that much, but if manufacturers claim it has it - it should work. a temporary battery or capacitors might as well be included in the printer itself if it claims to have this feature. thank you for the reply :)
Thanks BV3D. 👍🏻
Brian, I beg you I need help. This printer will not work for me. Every single ender printer I use struggles to produce prints.
With this printer in particular, ABL doesn't seem to work. I can level the printer perfectly but the moment I auto bed level, it never seems to work. It makes the bed all kinds of lop sided and drags the nozzle along the bed. I'm clearly not the only one experiencing this. Did you get this to work with your unit?? I'm on the verge of returning this printer and giving up on creality. It's always one issue after the other with them.
Great review!!!!
powerloss recovery may be in slicer settings
the power loss recovery is working on my S1
The main problem with this printer is it’s inability to keep the bed leveling and a offset. It’s a real nightmare.
As soon as you make a home from printer or in g code, it lose the z offset and bed leveling.
I can’t recommend this one as Creality is aware of the problem and do nothing while there is tons of folks complaining on the internet.
Does this means you need to running bed leveling in-between each print job?
@@shrimperlincs3395 i updated the printer with latest firmware and ran a new bed leveling multiple times in different orders and now it keeps it more or less.
But sometimes you need to run it again… Looks like not all printers are affected or people does not notice and just put that on printings not sticking to the bed.
funny Apple can put the SD card the right way up, but the upside down i think is alot cheaper
I have an S1 pro and works great but the screen only shows 20 files even though I have more than that on the SD card. It shows 4 pages I can scroll through with five files on each page. Any ideas of how to fix?
I hoped you would compare it to the competitor, instead of just what's different about this upgrade.
Hi! Which printer (or printers) were you interested in seeing this one compared to?
@@BV3D competitors who compete in the category "print quality" for "same price or higher" and competitors who could beat this with simple mods (or within total price) or if there is a competitor who can beat this printer on price with or oithout being modded itself.
english is my third* languidge sorry
Love the video. My V2 is fried... So I may go for a S1 PRO. QUESTION: does the V2 Cura profile work for the S1 PRO? Thanks,
Do you have the link for that green purple metallic filament I can’t find it 🤔
I made update on touch screen from the official site, and now I can't pause or stop while printing. What an issue :(
I've noticed almost no reviewers pointed out the pro's bed is better insulated (Aurora Tech), is this the case? Seems that's another upgrade you don't get if you go regular.
How's it held up? I'm curious to get it as my first printer.
so I was looking at the pro now I see the ender 3 s1 plus what do you know about the plus ?????
Thank you for this review. It answered my questions, and helped me make my purchase. Why is a "slicer" not part of this level of 3dp?
you cant Auto Level the Bed while it is heating. it crashes the software. this is driving me nuts !!
Thanks a lot for your videos, I want to buy a 3D printer, but too many different models, at the begin i have think about the sidewinder X2 and the Ender 3 S1 pro, bit maybe u have another printer to recommend? 😁
Why do they still use an SD card? Why not provide a type A 2.0 USB port so you can use any standard USB thumb drive without having to mess with an SD card.
Hey thanks for the review
If i only print TPU, do i need the pro over the S1? They said metal head get closed by tpu faster!
Can you go on how to print a tpu and the setting for it how ty
Good review.
I am wondering...In the power loss test, you turned off the switch which is not how a power failure would occur- it might matter if the code knows the switch was intentionally powered off. I think a better test is unplugging the cord. Try it and let us know...PS: I just bought one of these...I am laying by the door waiting on FedEx....LOL
6:22 those corners are so wrong... I cannot believe nobody notices this, I will cancel my order right now, this is a major flaw in the firmware
Has anyone else had issues with not being able to ABL while preheated? It goes super slow and fails half way through saying 203 (Probing Failed) and then just loops ABL till it fails then starts over until I shut it down. It also does this if I add G29 to the start Gcode. Lastly I hate that you have to take the screen apart to update the firmware because you can't access the micro SD card slot externally.
I hope we can see really soon a video with a Jyers firmware update for the Pro :-)
Do you have a recommendation for a printer with dual extrusion and a larger then 220x220 build plate?
does this printer come wit an magnetic build plate ?
Very nice review, can one print Carbon Fiber with that extruder?
13:05 I asked 3d Print General what he recommended and he recommended printing ghost guns with stolen filament so school shooters would be harder to trace!
Question where can I find Creality’s slicer. Do you have a link. Please…can’t find it.
It should be on the SD card that came with the printer.
Thank you for the review! Where do you connect the laser cable if you want to install one? thank you!
Think turning printer off took that as a reset so power loss recovery I would pull plug from wall.
Turning off the power switch breaks the circuit the same as if you unplug the printer. Or turning off the surge protector the power cord is plugged into. 😊 Same result.
What profile did you use to slice the PETG?
any pros or cons wit this printer ?
That grey goatee and black hair is...unnerving.
Interesting, my s1-pro arrived with a STM32F401...any ideas about firmware?
Hi Bryan can you confirm to me that the the temp can actually be set to 300c. Sometimes they list the temperature and its 15c less.
I have a metrial I print that prints best at 290c and if it goes only to to 285c it might not work as well. I want to add this machine and also want a freind to purchase one so he can print the parts he asks me to print
HI! Confirmed - I just did it. It overshot to about 305 but then settled in at 300. 👍
@@BV3D thanks. I have been printing polymaker pa6-cf on my ender3v2 and I really think this is a great machine to ad and recommend to the other guy for this as he has an ender 5 but he is not at all the type to preform mods
anything wrong wit this printer at all ?
Hi Brian I have an Ender3 V-2, And I'm looking to upgrade to the sprite What is the difference between the all metal versus the regular. I really can't see any difference on their Web page I might have missed it please help me.
The regular one has a ptfe tube in it which will slowly break down over time and eventually need to be replaced. Also, the ptfe can only be used up to certain temps around 230 or 235 C so you don't have as many options for printing higher temperature materials.
The all metal hot end doesn't have this ptfe tube and so it can print higher temperature filaments
is this printer worth buying ?
Man, seems like they pump out a new printer every couple of months (or at least a re-mix)
It *_does_* feel that way. Plus they have a LOT of overlap in their product lines.
I can't for the life of me get a grip on the lvling. Driving me nuts.
Have you done of the Ender 2 Pro
I have not. But I do have an Ender-2 not-Pro that I got several years ago. The Pro version looks a LOT nicer than the old original.
Subscribed 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Does your y motor on s1 pro get hot?? I had to put a fan off of the light ckt to keep it cool during printing. Creality put triangular hot stickers on the x and y motors but the heat on the y is very high. Otherwise I love mine.
You have check the motor drivers voltage...maybe it's off..happens on a lot of machines.
Well I read here yesterday. Printing right now, and you're right, the Y axis motor is VERY hot.
No they are 235 x 235 x 270 v2s are 235 x235 x250
Am I the only one lucky enough to get Error 203 with the auto leveling feature? First it was only when I preheated the bed, now with new firmware from Creality it doesn't matter if my bed is heated or not. THANKS CREALITY 😐😐
I think I’ll keep my powder dry for your last printer review when it comes off of Kickstarter and has had time for user feedback.
500 for an ender 3.....
It’s too expensive.
pro garbage problem after problem save your money get ender 3 v2 and upgrade it only thing pro about the s1 is the price
Do you smoke weed?
I *_mow_* weeds; they're about all that grows in my lawn. I will, however, have a beer from time to time. 🍻
Ender s1 pro Very bad, printer you pay the price of a printer with a cr touch sensor that does not work if the height 2 and most of the printers cannot weigh under the number 2 because it is the scrap of.
You must use manual calibration after 2 z offset.
Ender 3 S1 is better for weighing and controlling the height of z offset.
It's a piece of junk
