@@Sky_Guy It's always baffled me how the sequels went from creating some of the best ship designs in all of Star Wars, to the most uninspired within 3 movies.
It's not as if the designs in general got lower in quality. Stormtrooper designs have been absolutely phenomenal ever since Disney took over and they constantly top themselves, but man I would've loved a new Capital Ship that rivals the Resurgent
I can respect the odd designs from TLJ, because there was thought behind them and they do fit within the general Star Wars ship style and Solo honestly had some great designs for vehicles and ships, but TROS just sticks out like a sore thumb with the designs.

    • @hafor2846

Because everything else just fits. Imperial 1 star destroyers, X-Wings, Mon Cala capital ships...
It just fits perfectly into the universe. Why wouldn't there be a U-Wing or a Reaper? It's like when Ep5 introduced the Executor. Back then, you did not have fans complaining about the new class. Why? Because it fits into the setting.
U-Wings, Reapers and MC-75 just have that seemless feel to them. It does not feel like an Addon. Just like something that always existed, but wasn't shown until now.

The entire Sinar fleet systems _line of Ties_ would've made more sense and been more practical if they had followed the paradigm of having solar panels mounted perpendicular to the hull like the Reaper and the Striker.
No obstruction of vision, side target profile isn't huge, and can manoeuver far better in atmosphere (useful for maintaining dominance over were people actually live, and where enemy bases tend to be … based).
And if they folded up it would make storing them far more efficient and compact in a hanger.
The First Order Ties should have taken cues from the Striker design and had "wing panels" instead of the same model with a new paint job.

Hell, if you want a superweapon, an automated Defender factory that can crank em out like standard TIEs would be a huge threat fairly quickly and would be something different for a change instead of Deathstar 3 but bigger because disney needs to be bigger and better than original films

Since the New Republic wasn't CnC's GDI who suffered something similar but within weeks turned it around and then took it to Nod's HQ in Serbia... before getting an alien invasion (the Scrin) right on top of everything and within weeks forced them back to their only interstellar wormhole generator complex...

I can really appreciate how the Reaper feels like a logical successor to the LAAT. Not only can it fill the transport role the LAAT filled during the clone wars(a role that no other Imperial ships can fill) but it can carry out ESM, Support and Scout missions.

So basically, the TIE/rp is the Canon equivalent to the Delta-class DX-9 Stormtrooper Transport (TRN) of the old X-Wing games, sounds like? Playing Squadrons, it seems to fill a similar role, even if they aren't as common, and has very similar capabilities in terms of armament, crew/passengers, hyperdrive, and even length (the DX-9 being 20 meters to the TIE/rp's 21), making it functionally equivalent.
The TIE/rp is probably a bit more maneuverable and modular (in Squadrons, of course), but it seems to be more or less the Canon equivalent. Granted, it seems to be less common, as TRNs were basically everywhere in X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, while the TIE/rp is somewhat less common and seems to fill a more specialized role, shifting to even more of an important role post-Endor.

I like this design, but I always felt it was under armed for some reason, especially when compared to the LAATs used by the Republic. With the U-Wing it is more understandable since it is a Rebel design and pretty much an ad hoc creation to give the Rebels something to fight in aerial/ground warfare. The Reaper could carry more, than just a couple laser cannons (LAATs were littered with guns). Perhaps we never had a chance to see it in Rogue One in full action besides dumping troops.

What does "fighter support" mean within the actual story? You don't think the reaper and U-wing are flying around shooting magical ship healing missiles? I'm sorry, I understand why it's a thing in Squadrons, it makes sense and fits well within the game, but I don't think we should consider it cannon.

@@UGNAvalon so EW and AWACS craft - as for resupply I would be cautious mostly due to size of craft and fact that it was not designed to be dedicated transport/refuelling shuttle and just say it was for the purpose of game

    • @Muledragon
      @Muledragon 4 года назад

@@UGNAvalon Scanners and sensor jammers make sense for a long range patrol/scout craft, but I still don't see it being part of a fighter squadron. Neither the reaper nor the U-wing look large enough to hold much spare fuel or ordinance, and besides that, how exactly does it get fuel into the tanks or new ordinance into the torpedo tubes of fighters in mid-flight? Again, just doesn't make sense to me outside the game.

@@frag2k12 A lot of nations' military helicopters that are not purpose built attack craft (like the Cobra or Apache are) have that kind of flexibility. You put strong engines in a sturdy and roomy fuselage, and you can do anything from deliver troops and supplies to sub hunting and even be an ambulance, or a second-tier gunship or EWO/comms platform. They can even be kitted out with comfortable seating for ferrying general grade officers and VIPs.

I like the overall shape of the Reaper, but it's size relative to other craft seems a bit out of place. It would seem a bit more appropriate at about 80% of its current scale
