Does our sin define us?

  • Many people today don’t like the idea that we are somehow to blame for our actions. These people see ‘sin’ as an out of date concept.
But St. Paul knew that sin was real, and that it is something we need freedom from, in the name of Jesus Christ.
But to grow, our attitude towards sin is vitally important. This is St Paul’s healthy attitude towards sin:
    • We must own our sin; God can only heal what we identify.
    • We must realised that we are not our sin; that our true self is that we are personally known and deeply loved by Jesus.
    • We must recognise it takes time; some sins take time to be dealt with.
    • We can’t do it alone, we need the power of the Holy Spirit; human effort will only get us so far.
Thank you Father Dan Serratore for these insights.
