Generally speaking, praetors are the best figures in the Horus Heresy: you can never go wrong with any of them, no matter the faction! But the Ultramarine Praetor is the glory of Ultramar personified, even more than Remus Ventanus IMHO - together with the suzerains they are an irresistible combination! I can confirm my sword is like yours - I would say that it is feature, not a bug! I did not even notice it because I keep mine in a half-sheated pose and the power nodes were on the opposite (hidden) side! Almost perfect figure for me!
I wonder if it is the same QA guy on the factory line that is sleeping on the job and it ended up in your hands consistently. Thankfully I have no error out of the 30 different figures I bought.
