I think you did a great job showing some basics to help people out. Thanks for sharing this video. Learning the different theories on when to use which capacitor for lining or shading with was something that was very helpful to me as well.
It is not a gun. A Gun is a large caliber weapon found on ships. A rifle is an abbreviation for a hand held long barreled weapon that has rifling in the barrel, and a pistol is a smaller hand held device that usually fires bullets akin to a Rifle. These however are machines. Tattoo machines. very simple to understand, I hope this helps you friend.
Frame is one part of the circuit and the contact points are the second side of the circuit. Without a capacitor there is no change in the current so when you touched the frame with one hand and the touched the contact point which is isolated from the frame you completed the circuit therefore you became the capacitor, LOL The coupled voltage significantly increases at the point of switching, in electrical school you are taught to put one hand behind your back so as not to do what you just did because it can kill you, it's not the volt's it's the amps that stops the heart less then 3 amps can make you dead, main point of capacitor was reduction of spark and lower required voltage reducing the heat that way they were called IRONS and some. had wood bases before converting power supply from AC to DC circuit.
Well it did answer the question i was looking for but all the numbers and time you wasted woudl.not be the same for other machines considdering you must take into effect the spring gauge and tension even the coil size. Jusy those alone would give you a complete diffrent reading numerically stickbto basics brother the lower the faster the higher the slower... But for they effect the hit fornthe needle?? Like they effect the speed?

So I purchased a couple of machines just to feel and see exactly how they work close up with no intentions of being a tattooist. After watching this video I'm assuming I had the clip cord fitted incorrectly negative and positive that caused the compositor to literally blow up with a loud pop. Scared the fuck out of me.
Actually your a lot closer uf is the symbol for mircofarads but don’t change the u to an m because then you’re going from micro to Milli so you have to actually be specific about what you’re saying When you’re changing your symbols because that could be a big difference in what you need and what you are supposed to be using or what is suitable to use when changing the symbols
The "u" is actually a μ symbol, to denote "micro". so if you go looking for caps at an electronic store, pays to know you are talking about "micro Farads" not "you effs" :)
whats up so i just bought some cheapo kit on ebay for pretty cheap when i wired everything up i tried to use it and it didnt work thani put it up to 9 volts and the capacitor just blew right off pretty loud too like a mini firecracker what would the cause of that be it states 50v and 47 uf so im not quit sure why that would happen and im just curious any answers?
Before doing anything else I would suggest trying to find someone to help you out. We don't want you getting hurt trying to tattoo. Capacitors will blow sometimes when the clip cords aren't hooked up correctly. They have a direction to them and going the wrong direction will blow them up.
What ever works for you. This might sound like over simplified answer but its true. No recommendation would be perfect for everyone. I show people the easiest and simple ways to do things and there are still arguments. Just need to find what works. Order from a company that will return your money if the equipment doesn't work. You can get cheap equipment that works and expensive equipment that doesn't work. It is kind of a crap shoot with the tattoo industry. I prefer to make things myself because I at least know who made it and that it was made well. I went through 3 power supplies that stopped working in a very short time before settling on the one I have now. I probably will be trying another power supply shortly because this one isn't the best.
Sorry for the long answer. Try some power supplies and see what works for you. Make sure you can get a refund if they are garbage. I could tell you what to get and that one could be crap. Reputable dealers are a safer bet.
I have several machines that have the capacitor different from the normal one and do not stop for rca converter because the polarity is different as I do?
If you have RCA converter you just have to figure out where your positive post is. That is the post where you attach the wire. The base gets attached to the other post. The wire is the pos + side.
a freind of mine gave me two machines they have 68uf63v caps but they face in different directions - to rear binding post + to rear binding post? I think 1 machine is set up backwards? all of my other machines have 47uf.
Try it and see what happens. You can run a machine without a capacitor. They just run better when they have one. If you don't like the way its running switch it out for a larger capacitor.
Dropdead inc. Does a great video on tuning and shows simple trick to use a digital scale (a weed scale) to check spring tension. Idk how much a tension scale runs but this i bought my multi digital scale at a gas station for $10 :)
I wonder why not a diode on these too, i know the capacitor flow is set one way but why not a safety to prevent accidental clip cord reversal and damaging the capacitors.... maybe i should patent that lol
Tattoo University I know I'll contact a few guys I know from Northrop and Lockheed lol. Though I think they would just laugh at me. I'm a mechanical engineer so I'm limited on the electronic/circuits. But adding heat sinks to the 555 timers inside inside the China supplies helps a lot. As well mine had negative and positive reversed and is off by 1volt. IE display says 6 and really it's 5.1 with the pull drop it goes down to 4.3v. So I tune with my phone and a hertz listening application.
A lot of the equipment is off. You really have to know the equipment you are working with. I know that one of my power sources shows lower voltage and the other shows higher. My cheap machines are all wired different from my better made machines. I worked construction and build things. I work with metal but really not a electrical guy. I understand it. If I read about it I understand what they are saying. It just isn't my area of expertise. I come up with ideas and then have to research it. If I think I have a good idea I have to run it by someone who knows about electrical stuff.
I'm convinced there is an optimal set up for a tattoo machine. The perfect balance between coil and capacitor. I've read some articles that came close to giving me an answer. I'm still looking into it. Probably need to bring someone in on this to help me figure it out. My goal would be to make a machine that ran perfectly.
I'm sure there is, i converted mine and used 63v47uf and it seems alot more stable but i also converted to a BNC jack and filed down the heads of the coils to be absolute flush to the a-arm. Overkill i am sure but it's my machine, better than the guns we use to make with ball point pens and VCR motors lol.
The speed of the machine is determined more by the weight of your armature bar and front spring. With the capacitor it is more about your machine running smoothly. You can run a machine without a capacitor and it will still work. It just sparks, sputters, and shocks you. The capacitor keeps things smooth and keeps you from getting fun little shock treatments.
I'm thinking this is why they started putting plastic on top of the contact screws. Insulation from getting shocked. I don't think you need it with a capacitor. More for decoration now.
This is a good area to explore. I've talked to really experienced tattoo artist and they still don't have a complete understanding on capacitors. I've switched out capacitors and had minimal change to the speed of the machine. You can alway connect them and see what effect they have. Don't hardwire it in. Just connect it to see the effect.
Should work. I read something where they used a much bigger capacitor on their machine. It still worked. I believe it was in Machine Gun Magazine. I'll post the information when I find it. What exactly are you trying to do?
If you read MachineGun magazine there is a section that explains this. You can run a machine without a capacitor. It will not run as good. The capacitor helps the machine perform better. You can run those capacitors but the typical capacitor is 47uf or 22uf capacitor. I've switched out the capcitors and noticed that they do effect the speed of the machine, but it is very slight compared to adjusting the armature bar and springs.

Just depends on how you like to set up your machines. I would say that this is a recommendation and not a rule. Just depends on how you machine is set up and how you work.

22 softer hit. Bigger the number the longer it holds the charge then releases with a harder punch. Crazy how that stuff work. Lol

I think that there is still room for improvement on tattoo machines. I would try it and see what happens.
