    Spring Tension Gauge reminds me of the old bend bar Torque Wrenches. I use a small scale with a needle with the points cut off and curl the end. I put this in my machine and simply press it down on the scale. Gives exact weight in grams. This is the best channel on learning the important basics all tattooist should know.

    (HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCH THIS) Wish I had started with a tension tool!! Listening to my machines had been my only way and also the spring gauge, ghost, and bog, but what you explain in this video is great info for people learning! My skin scars very easy which sucks bad, but learning more about needle throw, cps, and Tension, is all a great help. lots of miss info out there, but (Highly Recommend this site)

    Your videos are a godsend.
    I am a new scratcher. I would like to know how to stretch my skin on my right arm/hand - I am not getting proper penetration and as a result cannot be a "Tattoo Ninja" because I have to go over and over the same area.

    I have 2 new coil machines getting very hot after only 30mn so I guess it is because the spring is new????

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  7 лет назад

      Need some tattoo machine tuning. Could be spring issue. You can move it to the side and bend it a little to take off some tension.

    could you not get away with a spring tension guage if you get a power supply like a hurricanepower2 bc I can't find a dag on Aaron Carter spring tension guage anywhere to save my life what about Wal-Mart Lowe's homeimprovment any advice?

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  7 лет назад +3

      You have to order one from tattoo supply store. I haven't been able to find them other places. People make them from other things but I think it is just too complicated for what you want. Spring tension gauge is so much easier. You can get your numbers right on your power supply but still have incorrect tension on your springs. I found my spring tension gauge for around $30 from National Tattoo Supply. At the time it was the cheapest one I could find.

      I could never get hold of one I looked everywhere until an old school tattooist looked at my machine and just showed me to bend my spring enough that if I hold the A bar down then slowly let it up once the contact screw touches the front spring there should be about 1mm travel distance after that, it's not an exact science but I do it to every machine now and they all run great

    Brah go to rotaries.. problems and tention problems solved.... Seems like it makes more sense...

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  6 лет назад +1

      You are correct. I use rotaries and coils. This is for the people who want to use coils. I love both types of machines. I love rotaries because they are easy to use. I love coils because I can fix anything that goes wrong. I have coil machine from when I first started tattooing that still works. I don't have any rotaries that have lasted that long. It is just for those people who prefer to use coils. You do have to be careful if you are using rubber bands on a rotary that they aren't too tight. Make sure your tension bar is set correctly. On some rotaries they do have areas where you can put too much strain on the machine.

    Hey nick, I've gone thru your videos 3 times now lol. My question is, for liner, shader and CP is there a tension range they should be in for each set up? I heard on this video 300-400 and less tension for cp and more for liners. What range is decent for each?

    • @TattooUniversity
      @TattooUniversity  6 лет назад

      There is a range. It can be different from machine to machine. Depends on how the frame is. The final result is getting the marks you want. Everyone is different and can tune their machines differently. There is more than one way to tune a machine and get the same result. You learn what works for you with practice. 300-400 works for me. I use very little tension with cp and liner. I add more with a shader.

      @TattooUniversity  6 лет назад

      I'm going to focus on the Website gotattoou.com. This way I can post diagrams and links to information that will help you. I like to tune machines and make equipment. I will share some machine tuning advice on the website. I will be adding diagrams that will take you through all of the steps to tune a machine. I've already started adding the first part of machine tuning. I will be adding the finishing procedure shortly.
