LOVE when you react to Ren! Your knowledge of music history and ability to identify influences with him is unparalleled! Good work always sir.
I second that. You can tell that honoring the original hip-hop artists that influenced him is important to Ren. I respect his respect for the craft.

For real. I'm amazed at how good this reaction is. They way you pause real quick and give the reference is really, really enjoyable. Some reactors keep pausing it but don't have anything worthwhile to say when they keep stopping it. Great reaction.
Third that here too
I agree, he really nailed everything in this one. By 6 min you could see he knew he was on a roll and just waiting for the next line lol
He said he wrote this one 2 years ago when he was really sick and just mad at life for all the shit it had dealt him. This was his outlet.
No excuses required. Dope track.
It makes perfect sense.
You for sure nailed more references than anyone on this one
He wrote on his community RUclips page earlier today,
"I expected a split reception on masochist, I'm glad I got it
I wrote the song on a day in 2021 I felt particularly bitter about living in a sick body for most my life, about anger at the greed in the music industry. Killing everything you know, even your support systems is also about rebirth, some people will have caught the Samsara line and see a man cursing the gods for the hands hes been dealt, others will see it as a track thats just being vulgar and dark for the sake of it. It's all of those things."
It's so refreshing to hear a knowledgeable, rational mind react to pieces like this. Hearing it for what it is. Thank you!
i love how he has so many hip hop references and i love you catching them
I discovered ren when hi ren had abuot 500000 clicks after barely two months since then I have been deeply immersed in his universe that is now repeatedly referred to by the reactor scene as Alice in Wonderland's rabbit hole.
As a German with 68 years I learn thanks to Ren since then an incredible amount of facts about hip hop, rap, alternative pop and everything that is influenced and expressed around it.
Listening to you and diving into the deeper aspects and connections around Ren's musical and literary multiverse, to which you so profoundly dedicate your reviews, is an absolute pleasure for me and I really enjoy your contributions which you know how to convey with great sympathy and wisdom. Thank you very much.
Best reaction ive seen yet. You have so much knowledge and understanding of the song
Ed Gein used to make furniture out of bodies. Texas chain saw massacre is inspired by him
I’m finding myself watching review videos just to figure out half of the thought behind his music. It’s got so many layers. Luckily I’ve been a sub here for years at this point. Thanks for sharing your respect and knowledge sir!
On Twitch, Ren said when he wrote Masochist he'd just come out of a "f'kn sh!t situation with the last people I was working with in the music business, so I was angry at everything and I thought I'd write that song (Masochist) and it made me feel better. Obviously it's not literal, I thought that maybe some people who were more religiously inclined might get upset about it but it's all sort of metaphors and it's all like my own journey and my own wrestling with spirituality when your body's been hurting for so many years, so that's where it comes from. It's not like being offensive to be offensive, it comes from a place of doubting your purpose if your in pain all the time. So that verse comes from there, cause I know some people will probably take it literally, as a face value: 'kill your mother, kill your father'; all that sort of stuff - it's just kind of cursing existing basically cursing the sheer act of beling alive, so in case anyone was wondering, that's why."
Well said!
Awesome reaction. You’re one of the only reactors to get the whole point of this song. Which most people have missed too. First time I heard I wasn’t sure but when I really listened to can understand the metaphor and what he’s actually saying.
Thank you, enjoyed that one.
I'm glad to see someone else that bursts out laughing at the, "Nah-nah-nah-nah, mate. That's not him." I love that bit. It's like he breaks and calls himself out on the song - a song that is very aggressive in a way we don't generally hear from Ren. He can come at you, but generally is still good hearted when doing so (unless you are the establishment of course). But this was just aggressive, and I love it. Everybody has to vent from time to time....
REN’s rabbit hole group sent me here and I’m so glad they did! Loved the reaction! Subbed 🙋🏻♀️ can’t wait for more Ren reactions!
@@IfItAintWoke-DontFixIt rens rabbit hole fans is a facebook group
Man! Was that a fast and good analysis! You're officially going straight to the top reactors with Knox Hill for me. You both tell me what I just heard by Ren - he explains the rhymes, you explained the references. Thanks!
its funny that you called out the possible run the jewels reference. this 100% sounds like something EL-P would produce, i think
I love your reactions because you get it! People are not understanding the references and metaphors in this song. They’re getting offended by the literal meaning of the words but fail to understand words have figurative meanings as well. Loved this! ❤
Great analysis, thank you!
My man you are so knowledgeable. I have almost 0 knowledge when it comes to classic hip hop, and you enlightened me with all the references in this piece. Bravo
When you are a good person and get dealt a shitty hand straight out of hell, obviously you will lash out at some point.
American Psycho (w)rapped up around a fire beat and tied in a bow of intricate lyrics 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely cathartic, raw, honest and pure
Damn.. You nailed so much down... Good job
Ren is for always amazing creative and lyrical thank you so much for the great reaction he is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
love your reactions always great insight
Love this! A lot of people have been a bit put off by this song, but your reaction is the first to really get that he’s in a dark place and tearing down everything. Wow, on calling out all the references. I learned a lot from your breakdown! Thanks! 🙂🩷
Very good breakdown
I normally don’t comment on reactions. But I watch yours when I can. Brother so smart! I was having a conversation with you during parts of this. 😂😂😂
best analysis of this song - both the references and the message. well done sir!
Second, third, forth, et cetera everyone else who loves when you react to Ren! You're the only one except maybe Knox who actually gets (like really GET) down in all the pockets and folders that is Ren's extreme knowledge of what's commonly are known as popular culture, be it dated 1920 or 2020. Thank you! 🖤 You've just gotten me as a subscriber, with everything or anything that could bring.
xoxo
From STHLM, Sweden
The beat when isolated sounds very much like the EMPD "So what you saying" taken from B.T. Express's ("If It Don't Turn You on You Oughta Leave It Alone") break, also the sting like Bee lines with prolonged pronunciation & rising pitch is homage to KRS 1
First reactor I've watched so far that caught the Method Man reference.
Love that you liked this there was also a Straight Outta reference there as well he just replaced Compton with Brighton.
"My mind is ill" could also just be referencing himself to some degree w all the mental struggles he's been open about going through - wouldn't surprise me w a double meaning there
You're insights are bang on! Getting all the classic Hip-Hop references . Top job man!
Thank you I learned heaps more from your reaction. 💕👍🦇
Thank you for another great reaction. I'm ready for Ren's next drop next Thursday.
Best breakdown of this!, I’m obsessed with this track 🖤
I love how much thought goes in to every word and beat. I’m glad you’re here to point out the references.
Daaamn, your breakdown of this song and quickness to catch the references was amazing to watch! You know your shit, sir.
Love your reaction you saw the important stuff he was throwing out about his love for music not judging his thoughts 😊 thank you ❤👍
Most intelligent insightfu reaction yet on this song. Seemed to have gone over so many others heads…reactors and fans alike. Thankyou MRLBOYD 😏💕
As always, a pleasure to see you Mr. L Boyd. Your music-knowledge and your quick ability to get to the essens of the lyrics
You were the first one I've watched who immediately got the Method Man reference.
Thanks for your wonderful reaction. :)
Yeah, song sounds like someone angry at the world, Ren is awesome 😊
As I’ve come to appreciate, yours is the most accurate and insightful reaction. Thank you!!!
This is the best reaction
As usual depth of knowledge and analysis from Mr Boyd ❤
Kudos man, ive watch a load of reactions to this and yours was the most informative n understanding of Ren 😊
You caught more of the references than any other reactor I’ve watched! Great job ❤
So far nobody has caught as many hip hop references as you have found. Awesome breakdown.
no doubt you are the goat at reacting your vast knowledge of history and pop culture shines when you do your thing. keep up the good work brother
Youve got to break a few bones if you're going to build a throne made of bodies and bones. 🦴🦴🦴
Blimey! Your reactions are a proper education. Thank you!
First time watching you, and you’re bloody awesome ! Great reaction ! Peace
Ren knows his music for sure 👌
This was probably the most accurate review from anyone I've seen review it so far.
Hes literally being a masochist and a sick boi through this song. Its the expression of dark emotions..when you are sick of everything and pushing self hate onto eberyone and everything else. This is a great great song
Always love your breakdowns ❤❤
Brilliant reaction. Most don’t get Ren … you do!!
Yeah. Thank you for the knowledgeable breakdown. Ren expressing himself in a particular period but still so much going on within the song lyrically I missed, references to other artists. Fire indeed
You are one of my favorite Ren reactors as your intellect shines as you interpret Ren’s complex lyrics and nuanced messages. Would love your take on Seven Sins. My current favorite from the new album.
People get mentally exhausted and say this is just trash. You followed it through and saw it what it is for.
Your the smartest of all the reactors.
Before judging who's smarter than who, change 'your' to 'you're'
Love this reaction. I love the song even more now that I understand the breakdown a bit and the references. Thanks for sharing ❤
I love your Ren break downs. Keep it going brother.
I'm loving that we get new Ren every week - great reaction!
I love your reactions and I learn so much about song references, beat, and love to see your responses to different parts. Thank you!!!
🔥 reaction just subscribed
Great breakdown.
Missed the Smalls flow reference with the furniture line. also, "Killer on the beat" must refer to trigger happy police. ps Pablo Escobar and possibly EPMD if my mind works. Saladin, pied piper, etc
Your killing them quotes/references.
BANGER!
Great reaction, as always, my favorite!
Enjoyed your reaction my dude. Very knowledgeable. REN cant miss. His new album is gonna be fire.
"Let's switch to role-play. I'll be the court case, and you be O.J."
Role-play is often used in a sexual setting. The court case had every indication that O.J. was guilty, but it let him off anyway.
I do believe Ren is saying that he is "getting us off" with this song.
I am amazed by you sir. Holy crap your knowledge!
Exellent reaction, thank you!!!
Yes, there are definitely specific hip-hop references in there but not everything is. I think you were reaching on a few of them. Sometimes it's just a common turn of phrase that's been used by untold numbers of artists. The fact that a hip-hop artist once used a phrase, doesn't give them a trademark on it. Inspiration can come from all kinds of directions, musical and non-musical alike. Especially for an artist like Ren. :)
This is awesome! My hip hop knowledge isnt great. Love how you pointed out all the references:)
Great analysis thank you 👍❤️🦉🙏🐊
Great reaction, thanks 🖤🖤🖤
😁🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯🤘
Special thanks for great backround info all meanings
🤘😁👍💙🇫🇮
I got the Eminem reference.. that was the only one. 😂😂😂Thanks for the knowledge. ❤😊
Dude, great reaction! I have seen a bunch of reactions to this song and not one of them laid it out like you did. Most missed the point of the song entirely.
Ren and hopsin colab... pure fire!
I love that you enjoy Ren's music so much! Please listen to Money Game (parts 1 & 2). They're probably his most well known songs and I think you'd have a lot of interesting things to say regarding the topics those songs broach. Love your vids!
Ren will definitely be leaving a comment on this one lol.
Great reaction brother
The more I hear it the more I get it. So many are so not happy with it though....perfect!
Breaking bones to make furniture is a reference to “mudererer” and his throne…. Also “hi, my name is” can be a double on “hi ren” 🤷🏻♂️ same with “ill mind” can be the “illest of our time” the guys a genius!! Never mind a masochist
Thank you
Ren Is Crazy!
"My mind is ill" -- Ill Manners - Plan B
At long last, someone who recognizes the KRS-One and JJ Fad references!
breaking bones to make furniture referenced his song murderer , his bone of thrones
Love it Thanks
Love you explanation ❤
6:37 It sounds to me again like an homage to Sound of Da Police
"The overseer rode around the plantation,
The officer is off, patrollin' all the nation,
The overseer could stop you, "what you're doin'?"
The officer will pull you over just when he's pursuin'
The overseer had the right to get ill
And if you fought back, the overseer had the right to kill,
The officer has the right to arrest,
And if you fight back they put a hole in your chest"
Woop Woop that's the sound of Masochism? Allowing that harm to happen to Black men in inordinate number in particular?
You should check Ren Hold on, if you want to hear some mad flows.
Luv your reactions, keep on trucking.
Did you miss Abdominal? "Strength of ten men"
Great reaction dude
❤❤❤
Ren x Hopsin is what we're waiting for.
