    I preordered this in the fall as my first purchase after being out of work for a short stint. I was so excited for the content I got in the PDF that I broke my own rule about doing videos before I get a physical product. That video did over 8k views, which is substantial for my channel. To put it another way, I enjoyed the book enough that I bought the Limited Edition cover at Gary Con, even though I already had the PDF and and preorder copy of the regular copy on the way. This hits all the marks… it is a great game system for all ages and experience levels, it is extremely cross compatible with TSR era D&D products, AND it is the finest content generation tool (page for page) that I have on my shelf. Ben doesn’t know me, and I paid full price for my copies. This is a great book folks!

      As someone who isn't big on class systems, I'm curious as to why you prefer class systems over classless.

    • @GalvatronRodimus
      @GalvatronRodimus 7 месяцев назад +5

      @@Jimalcoatl I guess the short version is that I like to just pick a package and have done with it, but I like more distinct capabilities than Knave's item-based approach (which I'll grant is pretty cool from a design standpoint). I don't like point-buy systems either, or the many many feats of 3e/PF.

    • @adamjchafe
      @adamjchafe 6 месяцев назад +4

      I love classless but an easy hack would be like, letting a class get some free slots for specific class items. Fighter can carry extra weapons, Wizard extra spell books, and thief extra adventuring gear.
      Honestly when I run this eventually I might do that and make an "Adventurer" class be the base RAW character. Just add a small downside to the classes as well.

    • @GalvatronRodimus
      @GalvatronRodimus 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@adamjchafe Cool thought, sounds like a decent blend of the two designs.

    This looks amazing! And I absolutely agree that content created from thoughtful and evocative random tables can have a larger impact on the game-at-the-table than mechanics. I’ve been home brewing my own system for four years, and early in the process I made about 50 pages of tables for defining a particular world-feel and it was the best investment I ever made in my games (even when running adjacent systems): prepping is fun and easy, monsters are always terrifying and unique, and my NPCs became so much richer and more fun for me to act out.

    One of the few kickstarters I really wanted to support.
    I already used the NPC generater in my game to give my 2 players some assistance in a hard dungeon crawl.
    Not only did they love the names for the charcters we had whole unplanned session just getting to know them and solving their miniscule problems between each other on a short trip to the dunegon. One of hopefully many sessions enhanced by this book. :)

    Hey, Ben! The book is exactly everything what I am looking for in roleplaying games. Simple rules and player choices determined by the world around them and items they carry. Before your system I looked at Shadowdark, Index Card RPG, Five Torches Deep, and many other.
    The reason why I discovered your system only now is that I missed the kickstarter and your video is (at least for me) a little bit hard to find. It doesn't contain the name of the game in the title, and moreover contains D&D - which is a thing I was desperately trying to find an alternative to. Maybe changing the title to ”Knave 2e: Every fantasy roleplaying trope in one book“ would help people like myself to find it more quickly.
    Anyways, thanks for the great overview, great system and your relentless dedication for our hobby.
