- I feel as though one cannot listen to one without the other, so here are the lyrics for Language I: Intuition and Language II: Conspire by The Contortionist. These two tracks are from their third studio album, Language. I hope that you enjoy this beautiful listening experience; they truly are a talented group.

I don’t know why everyone shits on Michael for being the vocalist. This dude can fucking scream. Reminds me of a way deeper more gargling chuck schuldiner. And his cleans are some of the most beautiful clean vocals ive ever heard. This band is just perfection.
They are.
Very true... l used to rehearse near Chick when l played bass for Atheist years ago.🍺
I like all his kinds of voice. He's perfect like other band's guys. My dream is to see them on gig....
What's his last name I'm trying to find him on social media
Lol who shits on Mike? His voice is the main reason i listen to this band.
One of THE MOST beautiful songs I've ever heard. It literally moves me to tears. I cry because of how beautiful it is, how much I love music, and how badly I want to make something this beautiful. Anyone else??? ❤❤❤❤❤
Never heard of this band before, someone who knows I like TOOL and some djent suggested this set of songs and here I am 😅 about a minute in and I'm enjoying it a lot 🤘
Update: *WE ARE PRIMORDIAL S O U N D*
*WE ARE **_PRIMORDIAL SOUND!!!_*
Possibly my favorite song ever recorded spanning all genres. Phenomenal playing, and as a drummer this is like sweet candy to the ears. That snare is tuned perfectly.
Yo! Could not agree more! I play drums as well and have been a big fan of these guys for awhile. Next month im going to finally get to see them live with Animals As Leaders!
@@ND-iz6dd how was the show dude?
@@TacoCrismaIt was sick! I got to meet Animals As Leaders. I also got to meet all the guys in the band that played before The Contortionist. The band that opened for them was Moon Tooth. I unfortunately didn't get to meet any of the guys from The Contortionist.
Getting to see these bands live was awesome in of itself but meeting AAL is something im glad i got to experience. They are all great guys! All members of the band were really cool.
Anyways i could go on about this stuff all day but im going to stop here XD
Thanks for asking about the show man! ✌
@@ND-iz6dd I think no one would be upset if you went into detail even more xD
The two parts in the drumming that always blow my mind wide open even compared to all the other sections is the snare converging during the first 9/8 section. And especially the 4/4 over 9/8 imposed polymeter in the last drift with me section.
It's such a cool trick and the complete loop of 4/4 is done in such a way that AFTER the quarter note pause completes 7 bars of 4/4. Gives crazy momentum and a sense of hemiola/tempo increase into the "real" 4/4 ebb and flow section
This song is an experience. It makes me feel melancholy, sadness, inspiration.
Now rise.
Feels. 🙃

this is late but sometimes I feel like im in a love/hate relationship with this song because its so good I fear it will be oversaturated fuck it Im tioo stoned for this shit srry
If you haven't seen The Contortionist live, trust me, you are missing one of the most memorable experiences of your lives.
saw them in Vancouver at the Ricksaw with Tesseract and it was GREAT. Dan from Tesseract had a rough night but otherwise the show was flawless.
I saw them by accident and people were going into another dimension when this song was playing and I remember looking around wondering what was happening. Something was being experienced, this was no longer just a concert. I'll never forget it.
mine was ruined by a shitty sound guy :(
Too bad for me they'll never come to Brasil 🙁
Thats so amazing @UltimoGuitarist2
what an emotional rollercoaster of a song
Yessss
Absolutely
I don't know which part I enjoy more, "balance finds its place, reaching for the Mother Sun. Rooted to intuition. You are the language." Or "balance seeks it's place. Moving backwards towards centre Sun. Rooted in intuition. We are the language."
YESSS I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMMMM BOTH PARTS ARE JUST SO BEAUTIFUL❤❤❤
I like the first one as the tension and release for that section is INSANE. Love it
@@CryThunderdarealone but the second one going to the bassline that is the same as the intro fill, plus the hemiola. don't make me choose
balance is a biych
We will be the salvation...the mother seeks
this lyrics to this album completely rocked my world and rejuvenated my spiritual life, no frickin lie. this is one of my favorite albums of all time and i dont think itll ever not make me cry
"Ebb and flow, sink in".
This band is literally the best band I have ever listened, still and always will be my #1 favorite band. That’ll never change
With the source opening it, this is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard. Acidic glory.
Even to this day, these two songs together comprises the best overall listening experience I have ever had
Just pure inspired compositional brilliance. Plain and simple. Deeply moving, paced perfectly, evolving, rooted in groove while tickling polyrhythmic sensors and displaying gorgeous chord voicings throughout. The snyth playing can too easily get overshadowed but is integral

how does this have less the 989,826,8294,983, zxzxzxzx views? this band is proof that you have to really dig deep these days to find good music. just recently was made aware of this band, and I wonder how people wake up each morning without this kind of love in thier lives. please don't ever stop making music.
brandon cook because it's not an official release...
brandon cook also, this music isn't for everyone.
brandon cook the contortionist will release a new album in 2017
Jimmy Jones really? haven't heard! I'm ready!
Chad DeBeau I realize that. mainly just emphasis on how awesome I think this music is.
Good journey for whoever is here for the first time

It took me so long to get into this band lol.

WE ARE PRIMORDIAL SOUND!!!!
Good post, never heard of this band before but I am enjoying it thoroughly. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together.
It feels like that the waves that this songs makes push all my pains away.
The evolution of sound in this band is incredible, I love when band go far beyond and explore the limits, and of course the lyrics and the instrumental parts are well placed together 🙏I don't remember when I discover this band but Languaje was the first song I listened of these guys 😎
Remember listening to this during spring quarter of college 🙏
This almost gives me the feels of Parabol + Parabola.
Hope this is good. Having a look!
@@KiloPage777 Oh hell yeah it is!
It's amazing and synchronistic when you do DMT to both bands. Everything makes the ultimate sense.
Makale Graham feel like once you break through everything from this plane vanishes and gets temporarily replaced with unfiltered perception, but ok
Yeah!
havent heard contortionist since exoplanet... at first hearing this i was like huh then i was like not bad then i was like yep this is awesome
Steve Butkovic same
How the fuck do you just skip Intrinsic?!
I am the same way with music. Most of my absolute favorite bands/songs that I love, I didn’t like at first. It usually takes a while to digest or truly appreciate the music for me.
@@husker6395 it's easy to shallowly "like" something. It takes investment by the musician and the listener to generate something truly great.
Saw them live in india 2 weeks back. I’ve gone crazy
so much acid has been done while listening to this song. such trippy
Briana Jael you think? never thought Of it as psych
This album goes well with any psych
Are you saying that the band was in acid or you were?😁
What.
Spiritual (arguably esoteric) lyrics and melodies usually go well with psych. However, they are distinct and it shouldn't be necessary to enjoy the music.
I laughted hard at the "chump chump chump" thing AHAHAHAHAHA
Or like Fredrik Thorndendal wouldve said maaaany years ago: djent djent djent djent djent.
He wouldnt say it today cuz that made-up word has been kidnapped, used, abused and spoiled.
what u mean?
Hahahhahaa
It must be considered as illegal to listen to both parts separately
7:50 it's like the sun rising after an heavy rain!
SO HEARTHWARMING
This is amazing!
Guitar Center bought me here, been a fan ever since.
Contrived sense of inception, intuition speaks to me
a masterpiece.
This is amazing
ay vale
After the chump, chump, chump there is thall thall thall thall! and then some djennnnt
Chump > thall > djent
When the bass riff plays on its own at 8:17 i'm like oohhhhhh weeeeee it's comin!
Why did they split this song on the track list? It's way better as one.
Great song
Thanks bro for making this video 🙏
the evolution of this band remind me of underoath each album you can tell how they've grown as musicians.
lol underoath aint heard them in years
Cept this band is actually good.
Terry Travis you telling me define the great line is not a good album?
The changing of times and Define the great line are the only albums I still jam by them . The rest is mehhh . This band is a lot more talented haha
@@josephsteiner8650 Only Chasing Safety was great hen I was 15, over them though.

Really missing you, my sweet.
Chump chump chump chump chump chump chump chump
I blasted out laughing 😂
Finally!! A band I’ll enjoy ✨ I don’t like super heavy metal music. But I started listening to poppy’s metal album and wanted to listen to more like it... this mild, bittersweet,Mellow yet angry, metal was meant for me 💘
I know maybe its a little late, but try Tesseract.
This and close to edge..
YES is good
what is this? how did i get here? I like this
Can any drummer explain to me what is happening at 8:38 when the ebb and flow riff returns?
Of course it's in 9/8 using the snare pattern and structure from the 9/8 section in Language I but is it also implying a 4/4 polyrhythm with the ride simultaneously?
That part is so mind bending!
Alright, I charted it out and I gotta say Contortionist are genius for this one.
Not only saving this polyrhythm until the end for theming purposes and making 9/8 sound incredibly groovy but the execution is flawless where the polyrhythm in 4/4 is completed right on the downbeat to give momentum into the next part.
Love this band, this is one of those wonderful parts where it's awesome at a surface level and downright masterful upon analysis.
Im glad you mentioned it, I love that rhythm so much
@@rockbandftmfw9 one of my favorite prog sections ever honestly. It's so natural feeling that I didn't put together how complex it actually was until maybe my 5th listen? That's the tell of great prog songwriting in my mind, it hides in plain sight with depth following upon inspection.
@@coveryourears3851 Yeah hahaha Im a drummer first so im always watching them I couldnt get the time signature either but I knew the 4/4 was there. Another rhythm I enjoy which may not be as complex as this one is the chorus to Prayer Position by Periphery. They just hammer on that one note and it like bleeds into the next section of the melody so perfectly
@@coveryourears3851 It's not exactly a polyryhtm, more like a polymeter, when you lay an odd phrase on top of a 4/4 beat and some added measures for it to encounter the downbeat, giving that "back and forth" sensation.
at the end an advert blitzed on for Noel Gallagher’s band high flying birds, and my brain seized.
THAAAAALL
Conspire’s vocals come in like a truck...on steroids.
They are a more proggy djenty and heavier version of Tool since Tool is one of their influencers.
4:08 always does it for me
I keep wanting to turn my headphones up louder but they're on max ;v;
Should've included The Source as well.
Should have included the whole album lol
Should’ve included their entire discography
should have included the unreleased demos
Oh I get what all those lyrics mean. I see you.
Is there an instrumental version of this?

Ebb and flow (Seek End) (08:49-09:37)
LIFE CHANGING FEELS
Thought it said sink in.
Bruno Scucimarri I think he means "seek the end of the song" cause its dope as fuck. but ya its 'sink in'. The first time I heard the end of that song I astral projected into space lol
Scroopy Noopers not sink in, seek in
Jimmy Jones Actually no its not, I have the lyrics sleeve for Language Lol
I thought it was "outward edge in"
What is the meaning of the lyrics for this beautiful song?
Who knows dude. Existential communication with the universe.
Its open to interpretation, but lessard wrote this song, album and the next album referencing a friend who had committed suicide (don't quote me on this). It could be about always reaching out to the ones you love and simply communicating with them and making sure they're ok.
People do interpret it differently than me and think of it as cosmic, or maybe about human evolution, but the more spacey, high brow lyrics left with Carpenter, Michael Lessard writes more personal, emotional stuff
What are they talking about? Seems interesting...anyone know?
Three interpretations for me:
Either human evolution through communication,
or self reflection
or communicating with the ones you love to make sure they're alright
its about the singers friend who passed away and how he never got the chance to communicate and make sure he was alright until it was too late

Why does this remind me of Rush?
Same here. Maybe a version of Rush, just add Quantum Computer for the update ?
It has well played percussion, it has well played bass, it has well played guitars, good vocals, smart lyrics. This they do share with Rush and Cynic.
Feels like a tesseract (altered state) meets dream theater ...no?
Yep, tesseract and dream theater
I was just thinking that then seen this comment wtf lol
Cynic
No_regard this album has "Traced in Air" written all over it, great album though.
Totally influenced by cynic yet taken to it's own incredible level
cynic is gay
calling cynic gay is a pretty gay thing to say my dude
That cynic is gay caught me off guard, to random to not laugh 😂😂

Amazing until 6:05 then it all sucked.

You're crazy m8 , shit gets real
