Cool, thank you Leo! I was hoping you would test this once I read it's been improved.
You are welcome and I'm happy that you appreciate the video!
Love the low latency in my Boss GX100, I’ve gotten so used to it that I can feel higher latency on other devices. Hoping Quad Cortex can improve, I love the format and ui.
Hi, thank you so much for sharing your findings!
My experience as well.
Thanks for your work - helpful video!
You are welcome!!!
Grande Leo sempre ottimi contenuti. Sei il migliore.
Ciao e grazie per il super compimento!!!
Boss still the king of low latency. I wish Boss would make a QC like pedal someday.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
I use the QC, the sounds are great. But I completely agree with you. I used to own the boss gtk and its feel was incredible.
Die hard bosss ☠️☠️
I Hope so...but increasing quality and details on models It Will be with 4ms 😂
Thanks Leo for conducting the Latency Comparison. It's good to see most of the latency measurements lower than 4ms. I start to notice annoying latency at around 5ms. The External Loop Latency concerns me some. Do you recall what was the Boss latency for this feature in your earlier video?
Hi, you are welcome!!!
If I remember it well I tested the latency of the GT 1000 core (only) in a video where I was checking out the best companion of the ToneX, and I noticed that the effect loop of the GT 1000 core do NOT introduce latency....I've no idea how BOSS can achieve this...maybe the do all the conversions (also for the loop) when they do the conversions for eh input and output... I think that the GT 1000 and the GX 100 behave in the same way as the GT 1000 core....but I'm not 100% sure, as I have not done direct tests.
Thank you!
Very interesting! Good work 👍
Thank you so much, I'm really happy that you appreciate the video!
@@LeoGibsonGtr I haven’t really had any latency issues myself with the QC (my presets are usually not so complex) but it is interesting that you can verify what Neural stated in their update 👍
Thank you Leo. Great review as always. Would you consider talking about FRFR speakers and how they compare to using a valve amp + guitar cab?
You are welcome!
Thank you for your suggestion...I will think about it even if currently I use these machines with studio monitors or directly in the mixing desk...so I even don't have a dedicated FRFR speaker...other than studio monitors...
Hi Mr. Gibson, could you please make a comparison of pitch shifting and modulation effects on various modellers?
I'm looking for a modeller mostly for these types of effects to create synth-like, ambient and soundscape sounds. However, the comparisons that I found focus mostly on amp modeling and traditional effects.
Thanks
I think that the Helix, Fractal FM’s or the Quad Cortex are all good for that. Helix and Fractal have more effects.
@@pino_7428 You've obviously never tried the Kemper Delay/Reverb ambient tones ...unbeatable!
Nice. Waiting for desktop app in October
Thank you!
Yes, me too....that is gonna be super useful.
Let me tell you this: The QC has serious lag compared to Boss GX100! I’ve played the latter for a year, just tried a QC - VERY noticeable input lag. I’m kinda shocked.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
FUN FACT: The sound travels through air at 320 meters per second. That equals 3,2 ms for every meter you're away from your amp, even with a full-analog chain. If you're 3 meters away from your amp, you'll get around 10ms of "PURE ANALOG" latency. Anyone complaining for anything below that has never really done the math 😂😂😂😂
A Quad Cortex with 5ms latency through headphones (or thru a wedge monitor speaker at your feet) is FASTER AND HAS LESS LATENCY THAN A REAL AMP. Kaboom!
So much for the "I notice latency" snobs! 🎉Stop this nonsense:
Every frickin' digital stompbox pedal you've all known, owned and placed on your pedalboards since they first started appearing in the 80s has always added between 0,5 and 2 ms of latency to your signal path without any of you complaining at all. Yeah, your DD-3s, your choruses, your Eventide pedals (all of them above 2ms each). You've played with an average total of 10ms (pedalboard) + 10ms (distance from amp) latency without ever complaining. Simply because YOU DIDN'T KNOW. I feel bad, I'm enjoying this. 😬 So... that's settled. Let's move on...
BTW, our beloved Leo! Do you have an updated comparison chart of latency values for all the devices you've tested? (You probably do, but I don't know where to look for it😅). I'm curious! You're doing (guitar) god's work with your research!!
As a pro audio engineer, I think I'd rather have a fixed latency value at all times, no matter what blocks are on or off!
anything under 5ms is more than perfect! I prefer consistency over ms delay fluctuations! I wish they added this option on the main menu as well!
You're the most passionate and in-depth guitar digital processors reviewer on the tube! The f&@king best!!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and for the compliments!!!
Let me add, that latency sum up, I mean you may be far from your speakers, let's say 3 meters as in your example, and you have a specific amount of latency. Then you have you amp modelling pedalboards, that adds its own latency, then you may have an external digital effect, and maybe a wireless transmitter...and latency sum up. At the end the overall latency of your system may be too much to play comfortably. That's why in my opinion it is important to take into consideration also the latency introduced by you amp mod pedalboard.
Thank you!
dude, you have mic in front of the amp 5cm distance and then a monitor wedge or iem.
your comparison is so faulty...
Hello, great comparison Leo. I thought my QC felt a bit better, latency wise, after the update. What happens when you disable FX loop, is FX loop latency still there or does it go away like with the amp blocks?
Hi, good point....I have not check it out...Now I give for granted that every block does not impact on latency when switch off...but I'm not 100% sure....as I have not tested all of them...
Gosh... heaven help anyone who stands an extra 3 to 4 feet away from the amp compared to where they are used to sitting!

Could you make an aliasing comparison between big name modelers using same kind of high gain models? Many thanks
Hi, it would be super cool...but I still have not found a way do it....I have read some thread, especially from Fractal Forum, but nothing too much convincing for me...even because when I record the output of the unit into my audio interface, my audio interface applies the anti aliasing filters...
Please, let me know your methodology if you want.
Thanks!
More Awesome....so I need to go lowest latency thru quad then out to GT1000 and use it's effects and out to amp to get 1 millesecond less than the 5 total thru the QC alone, yes? Nice!
Since the update my expression pedal wah finally works without massive latency horray 😂 Should've been like this long time ago, but glad they fixed it. Too bad the customer support gaslighted me and everyone else in the meanwhile, saying there is no latency whatsoever. Yet they went ahead and fixed it. Weird company, but maybe the device will keep improving
Hi, thank you for sharing! I didn't know that the customer support was neglecting latency....nevertheless, as you said, it's nice that we have now an improvement.
Thank you!
So, NUX MG-30 is still better than Quad Cortex for the latency system
So far, at least the MG 30 has less latency.
Thank you for your message
@@Niksounds Sometimes it depends on the embedded system engineer's experience. For QC, the owner is a good algorithm engineer. But it's difficult for a man who can handle algorithms and embedded systems well at the same time. Just like the PC editor coding is another world. That's the reason QC hasn't announced the PC editor yet. And that's also the reason QC just released the new firmware to improve the latency issue.
@@Niksounds Yap, beta, and since Neural announced QC till now, how long? BTW, while you check the DSP that QC uses, it's really powerful and high-end, so there is nothing related to "More quality introduces more computing and latency". The most difficult part is AI Profiling, regularly calculating the Profile (Blackbox algorithm) doesn't cost much DSP power.
I really don’t get the latency issue.. I haven’t had any latency issue with the Quad.
The only issue I have with the quad is the weird way the delays behave.
Hi, thank you for sharing.
5 ms are roundtrip? Play the guitar and get back to your ears? 5ms roundtrip are A LOT! That is basically a deal breaker.
Hi, this is just the time taken by the QC: it does NOT include the time taken by the wave form to reach your ear.
Thank you for your question!
