I love the QC. Sometimes I create patches without a guitar plugged in just to see how it will sound. I’ve created some of the best tones I’ve ever had in less than five minutes using this technique with only minimal tweaking after I plug in. Easiest UI, most flexible signal chain, great preset/capture sharing, more than enough routing options and amazing tones. I never thought I’d retire my axe fx but it’s been sitting in a closet since I picked up the QC. Edit: I’m a rack guy so my QC sits on a rack shelf and I use an airstep with a widi master to control it wirelessly. I highly recommend this setup for any midi controllable gear.
Love my Tube amps but I use the Cortex live 95% of the time. Sounds great and consistent, is the only modeler that sounds great and is super easy to use. No tips, no tricks!! 🤷🏻♂️
It will! I never bonded with the Kemper and was always looking for “that” profile. Everything on the QC rips and you can actually tweak the amps. I love this thing.
Most people don't consider the application of use for their Quad Cortex IMO. I use Scene mode for recording as it has the most flexibility within the preset. I didn't find Preset mode to be useful (I don't use it, but I heard there is latency between switching presets), but Stomp mode I would use live so I can on/off certain operations of block chains of a Preset. I also put my Cortex Presets in order of amp release history for easier reference.
@@alexanderhanksx for years I used digital modeling platforms to cut back on cost and bulk but it always left me wanting more. Not more effects or more tones. Just better quality. I eventually got away from the modeling platforms and got into pedals. Now I got this awesome pedalboard with all my dream pedals and it’s all controlled through my boss Es-8. I have midi messages being sent all over the place. Midi switching my amp as well. It’s all super cool. BUT Bottom line, it’s all just too much. It weighs a metric fuck ton. It’s bulky. I require a massive footprint. It is currently solid but I’m just waiting on one small thing to go wrong and shut me down at the worst possible moment. I need room for an Engl 412, a 100 watt evh el34 head, a massive pedal board and at least 2 guitars just to setup. I have to have several long runs of cables with backups at all times. I also have a tote that must come with me with all my backup cables and tools. Just to setup to play a show I need at least 15-20 things to go right and none of them to go wrong. OR ELSE! If I were using something like the quad cortex, I could show up with a backpack and a couple guitars to any gig or even band practice and achieve the exact same goal. I mean, I could easily fit a quad cortex and something like 10 extra cables in a backpack and still have room for my lunchable and coke haha. Oh and I guess guitar picks too. Might need those.
Quad cortex is a dream of a user interface compared to a Kemper so I see your point . Kemper has many more parameters that you can set up and then things even change after an update. You need an IT degree to manage all of that. Nonetheless I m happy with my Kemper since more than 9 years now
Love your content Kyle but I have to say... Didn't like the clickbait. I don't mean to criticize though, just giving you feedback from the subscriber side in that matter!
You buy a quality tube amp it’ll be dope forever. You buy a modeler and it’s cool until the new one comes out. That being said, playing out with a tube amp is completely unnecessary.
Idk man I’m still loving my helix. My buddy has one of the og Vettas that Meshuggah used to use and it still rips too. This does feel true for axe fx though.
Not really no. Modelers are very cool and remain cool. It's just down to the individual whether or not they want to jump on the next thing because you could say the same for amps.
i bought a torpedo captor for my first loadbox and it sounded so bad i put it back in its box after 5 minutes of using it (aka realizing i wasnt crazy, it wasnt any of my connections or settings, and that the problem was in fact that the unit sounded like s#%t). i got a Fryette PS-2 Power Station and havent looked back. it STILL does color your tone, but your tone can be worked into one you love at any volume and, if youre like me and have a small 25 watt amp, at higher volumes your tone will sound even BETTER & punchier because of the 6L6 tubes the module has. so if youre reading this wondering if you should get a Torpedo Captor, *Do Not.* get a Fryette Power Station or, if you want a cheaper alternative, the Rivera Rockcrusher looks great as well - i almost went with that one and 100% would have if the PS-2 didnt exist.
Digital Modeling Amps = Back up amps if I likely don't have a tube on hand to replace an expired tube or my amp needs to be looked at. As a guitar player I want the sound & feel of an amp, not a useless tablet as an amp. There's a reason I don't own an amp simulator, cell phone, tablet, laptop, etc. If they break you get to spend more money on a new one or trade it in & redo your presets. For me it's an expensive paper weight.
Not quite ready to move to QC from Kemper, needs a bit more time. Still too many units failing and freezing on tour. Another treat or two and it’ll probably be gig ready.

I might be misunderstanding what you said but, you had an insert video that said that your direct box adds lows and highs which is why the quad cortex has a little more high end than the actual amp (which I actually picked up in the RUclips playback). But later you explain that the amp and the quad cortex are going through the same direct box - the amp is going to the DAW through the direct box, and the amp is going to the quad cortex through the direct box. If that's the case, then the same signal is going from head to DAW, and from head to quad cortex. Am I right that this does not explain the difference in quad cortex EQ? I ask this because that has always been my beef with models. There is always that 'transistor sizzle' on the top end that, if you are an experienced amp user, you can definitely hear an unpleasant sizzle that is not present/rolled off on a tube amp.
i actually like the QC more than the amps, i've watched HOURS of amps vs QC. the slight high-mids push that the QC has on the captures just cuts through everything lol
