99% chance as to why the cop keeps asking him questions is that the EMTs told the cop to keep Ryan talking. Being a cop and since they've been talking about the shooting, as he's actually been reasonably coherent thru it all, he just continued with that topic. Head injuries make you horrifically photosensitive. The light goes right through your brain and rattles around in there.

Nurse here as well and I 100% agree! Not LE bashing either, my father retired (26 years in) and my brother is current LE and the actions of this “detective” is deplorable and negligent. It seriously doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that things aren’t right from the beginning. Even if they/he knew he had done it (between the facial injuries, symptoms and his mental state) he should have been checked out immediately. I cringed when the detective walked out of the room a few times, after he realized what could have been happening. I was waiting for him to fall out and hit his head at that time. Thankfully, that was not the case. But they should of had someone in the room with him. I am so sad that he lost his life due to this gross negligence.

Anger and word salad and extreme tiredness is classic head injury……this is deplorable
Ryan Waller and Heather Quan had been dating for nearly eight months and had recently moved in together. Waller had just graduated high school while Quan was a college student. They rented a house with another roommate, Alicia, in Phoenix, Arizona. On December 25, 2006, Richie Carver and his father, Larry Carver broke into their backdoor and fired shots.
Waller was hit in the face and Quan was shot in the head and left to die. The Carvers then burglarized the place and stole some electronics and a guitar, which would never be recovered. Unbeknownst to them, Waller had survived the shooting but Quan died instantly. She was 21 years old.
Media reports claimed that Ryan Waller and Richie Carver were former roommates and the shooting was a result of a previous armed altercation between the two. However, it has come to light that Waller had no personal relationship with Carver and had never been his roommate.
Carver had been a previous tenant of the house where Waller then presently lived with Quan and Alicia. He was kicked out of the house by his roommate Eric. It is known that Eric and Carver had a disagreement leading led to Carver’s eviction. Waller then rented the house and was Eric’s new roommate for a while. Later, Eric moved out and Quan began living with Waller.
Waller and Carver had only met twice before the shooting. First, when Carver approached the house seeking his mail that had been forwarded to the old address and another time when he was caught snooping in the backyard claiming to have lost his pet iguana. Whereas, Heather Quan had never met him.
The armed conflict is believed to have happened with Eric and Carver instead of with Ryan as Eric had once warned Carver to stay away from his property with a gun. The misinformed reports claimed that the Carvers stole several firearms from the house but Waller only owned a small handgun. Moreover, the gun was not stolen during the attack.
Hence, for reasons unknown, Carver and his father decided to rob Waller’s house on Christmas night, presumably thinking they won’t be home during the holidays.
When Ryan did not turn up for the family Christmas dinner and failed to answer calls, his parents drove to his house. They called the police when no one answered the door and requested the force to conduct a wellness check on Waller.
The police arrived at around midnight and noticed a body from the window. However, they refused to break in and waited hours for a search warrant. At this point, Alicia had come home and gone directly to her room, not noticing anything amiss in the living room. She answered the door when the police knocked again.
Upon investigation, they found Quan’s dead body and immediately arrested a wounded Waller on murder suspicion. Apparently, the officers thought that the gunshot wound on Waller’s face was a black eye. They assumed that he and Quan had been involved in a domestic dispute before she was killed. They treated the murder case as a scenario of domestic abuse gone wrong.
Waller was kept in the police car for four hours and made to spend another two hours being interrogated, all the while when he was having a traumatic brain injury from the gunshot. The now infamous interrogation video shows a disoriented Waller giving incoherent answers to simple questions asked by the lead detective Paul Dalton.
In an ideal situation, he should have been provided medical attention at the earliest. More than six hours had passed when detective Dalton noticed the wound and finally allowed the paramedics to have a look at Waller.
Ryan’s dad sued for $15million but the case was dismissed 😢…..seriously?

Their refusal to acknowledge or being too stupid to realize he's seriously injured and needs IMMEDIATE medical attention is ridiculous, you can see the holes in his face! It doesn't take a medical professional to realize something isn't right and he needs to be taken to the emergency room NOW!

This whole thing makes me sick! The law is supposed to act on the premise that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, which means if you are injured and obviously this boy was, medical attention should have been given before one word of interrogation was started. It doesn't matter if he died an hour after this or if he died a year later from seizures that he suffered as a result of the head injury.. If he had received the medical care he needed the moment he was discovered, perhaps he wouldn't have had the seizures that killed him eventually. Perhaps there wouldn't have been an additional hour or more where the brain was allowed to continue to die and be damaged by the bullets and lack of medical care.

This is the lowest of the low when it comes to detectives this guy should be in jail. From someone who’s been shot before I’m actually happy he had head trauma so he didn’t have to sit there and feel that burning pain on top of being wrongly interrogated. What a HORRIBLE display by this police department. Rest in peace to this young man and fuck that detective 👎 the look of frustration when he gets up and really even the pathetic medics that come in “you got shot in the face dude! This breaks my heart to watch this. 😔
Clearly given his obvious injuries and state of mind he absolutely should have been taken to a hospital immediately and not have waited for some kind of medical intervention to come to him. Anybody with any sense at all would automatically come to understand that something was drastically wrong with him. The officers and whoever else was involved with his custody should face some sort of punishment for failing this young man so badly.
    R.I.P sweet angel.

His estate STILL SHOULD recover the $15M lawsuit even though he died from a seizure after the filing...

This is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Even if the cop thought he was drunk or on drugs or simply unintelligent he should never have been questioning him like this. This is heartbreaking. Surely the cop must have been able to see there was something very very wrong. That poor boy. He did nothing and is dying in agony while he’s being bombarded with questions
The cops need to be sacked jailed for life and the family want to take them for everything they can
I feel so sorry for this poor boy xxxxx
I hope the cop never has a nights sleep again for as long as he lives. He’s an arrogant uncaring egomaniac

Omg I feel so awful for this poor guy 😢 how could you not tell there was something seriously wrong with him or at the very least had him checked out before that brutal interrogation! Shame on that detective and then you finally realize something isn’t right yet continue to try and question him. He was just a kid clearly unaware of what was going on around him. RIP Ryan and Heather 🙏🏼

@@tparker4458 I do believe his family sued the police department. The doctor said Had they got him to the hospital immediately outcome could have been different..

This could have been prevented if he was seen by paramedics prior to interrogation.. what an embarrassment to this department.

So many parts of this interrogation were just shocking. In the beginning when they read him his rights, he couldn't even understand the question, he never said "i understand", and they just kept grilling him. So sad...

These detectives are questioning a guy who has been shot in the eye???? They are crazy - they helped cause his death - and he was only a victim

You have the whole backstory wrong. Richie and Larry weren’t roommates, they were complete strangers. They were the previous tenets of the house Ryan and his girlfriend had just rented. They came by a few days earlier to rob the house, but when they realized people were home they introduced themselves, claiming they had left something buried in the backyard. They used this opportunity to peek inside the windows and case their house. Then they came back a few days later and shot the couple and robbed them.
Ryan couldn’t articulate any of this properly because he had brain damage from the gunshot and was trying his best to explain. Even if they thought he was just beat up they should have had him cleared by EMS just based on his injuries

Oh and the fact, the detectives KEEPS interrogating Ryan, AFTER he realizes he has a sever head injury and can’t put a straight thought together, really shows the detectives character. Disgraceful, absolutely disgraceful.
