This is an excellent beginner's tutorial! I opened gimp and followed along using a split screen. If any of you are having trouble seeing his mouse, remember that you can zoom in on your monitor. I'm on a laptop so I can pinch to zoom in and out on what he's doing. Thank you so much for putting your time and effort into showing us how to do some of these basic and very useful skills.
I was learning how to use GIMP about a year ago. So many weeks of my life. I'm now starting all over again after suffering some neurological damage. 5 minutes in and I've already picked up a couple of tricks that I don't think I ever knew.
I downloaded Gimp last night with no idea how to get started. A few of the RUclips videos I found taught photo editing as if the viewer already had knowledge of where all the buttons are, what they do, etc. Your video is very much appreciated. Thank you!
Rather than being a long video littered with ads and plugging, we have a straightforward tutorial, timestamped and titled for our convenience. We truly do not deserve this man.
Thank you! I'm a complete beginner in most techy things, but want to learn to use such tools for doing artwork. I've been asked to make illustrations for a friend's magazine article, a new experience for me, and was looking for something cheap / free, but more functional than Microsoft Paint! GIMP looks like the answer. Your clear and detailed demo and teaching, are just perfect for someone like me! I'm even listening without watching, and the way you say "over here on the left", and tell which mouse button to use - and I get it! So very clear! Fantastic teacher!
Sorry, dumb question - once you're done editing all the layers, how do you save as one complete image? Just do "Save As" and give it a name and file type?
Thank you for this tutorial. I've been using GIMP to create images for my story videos, but I just sort of learned what functions I needed and didn't do a proper tutorial. This was helpful to understand more of what's available. If you're interested in feedback to make these vids more helpful, I'd like to offer three pieces. 1) It's often hard to see what you're clicking on because the cursor is tiny and you move it so quickly. I don't know if there's anything you can do about that, but it should would help. 2) You talked about Alpha Channels without explaining. 3) Please stop jiggling the image around randomly like at 47:38. I know it's fun, but it's just confusing in a tutorial. Thank you!
Fan freaking tastic! I've been watching a lot of tutorials lately and this by far is the best tutorial I've seen. Great job!!! I learned more in less than an about Gimp watching this than I did in an entire month of intro to graphic design trying to learn about Photoshop. ( Did that sentence makes sense? Lol) Anyway, thanks so much! Super grateful. I hope the RUclips algorithms repay your kindness with throwing this video all over the place for exposure!
Great tutorial, although obviously I'm going to have to rewatch several times to get my head around things. I know people say Gimp is far easier to use compared to say PS, but even so there's still a lot to learn even at the basic level. Thanks again
Thank goodness I found you tutorial. The one that was recommended didn't actually tell me what she was doing. Yours is MUCH better. I'll be back to watvpch it over and over
I am so appreciative that you made this video. I was losing my mind trying to use gimp. But your video has helped me a lot. You have got a new subscriber :)
I'm so glad I found you. Tutorials have been driving me batshit. Most move to fast to follow and assume knowledge many people don't have. Excellent! Thank you!
Ive seen other tutorials on YT and I like that youre through and straight to the point and you show clear examples on how to execute the features of the software. Thanks.
Thank you! This has been the most complete and helpful tutorial on GIMP I’ve watched, and I’ve watched quite a few! It may just be the basics but you touched on just about everything needed, and the video didn’t stretch out to several hours long! Thanks so much for creating this! Very helpful! 🙏😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm new to GIMP, and your video cleared up a lot of questions I had. I really appreciate your time and effort in making this video.
Thank you so much for these tutorials. I use GIMP to make my graphics for my channel. I have to admit I always learn just barely enough about every software package to accomplish just what I needed. So it's great to have an overview like this.
Recently started Twitch streaming and wanted to draw my own logo so I got the Star G640 drawing tablet. This was the best beginners tutorial possible. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much, this was so helpful in understanding the basics. This is my first time editing anything and I really didn't know where to begin. This is just what you need to start practising before moving on to more advanced stuff. great tutorial :)
Thanks to you I just realised how I was doing it all wrong... Thank you so much for your tutorial, it's really well done, super comprehensive, really clear and well organised. Great work!
Thank you so much. I switched from Photoshop to GIMP because of Adobe's predatory pricing but struggled to figure out how to do things I knew in Photoshop. This tutorial was of tremendous help.
First i would like to say that I love the way that you presented your tutorial, it was easy to follow and what I learned from you today will help me in my future. Thank you
Very helpful vid for a noob like me. Thank you for taking the time to make this and for helping beginners use one heck of awesome image editing software 👍
Is there a way to make the text and tool icons bigger? I can't find anything in preferences for that.. at least from what I can see that's not too small to read.
Excellent and easy to follow. I tried the shape fill using the path tool but the coloured shape edges were pixalated like the pencil tool, do you know if there is any way around this... to make the edges clean
I wish a little more time was done on planning, it would have gone a long way. I could do this, or I could that, but I like to do...too much bouncing back and forth and no progression from A to B. An example if you could have started from an image and gone to a finish image with a purpose, and afterwords show a different way/version, or show one way just with a keyboard shortcuts and then another way with the using a mouse. This is more like a beginner/intermediate video. Thank you for sharing. It did help my boyfriend out a little.
Good course. An overview of the layout & panels, docking/undocking etc would be nice as well. Seems less intuitive or easier to mess up than Photoshop. Otherwise it was good and lessons and work pretty clear.
This tutorial successfully taught me how to make memes without paying for proprietary software. Top notch, Chris. You deserve the most
do u still using it ?
Chris: "And if you don't already know how to do..."
Me: "Oh thank goodness!"
Thank you so much for the tutorial! Really well put together.
much needed. I just installed it a couple of hours ago and have no idea how to use it :D thanks man.

Same... 😩
It's a great program for being free but it is so unintuitive

This is my second tutorial from you and it's taught me so much. Can't wait to get through your entire GIMP playlist.
Thank you, Chris! This content is a great for beginners wanting a quick ramp up on basic features of Gimp. All content is still relevant in 2024.😀

Greatest tutorial. Just installed gimp and this video appears like my guardian angel.
TYSM Man.

How long should I take when I select and move selections from one picture to another?
Excellent video! You kept a great pace and explained well without sounding bored or condescending. Thanks very much for this!

Same but my thumbnails suck so bad they might be crippling my channel
