Vibe mallets can most definitely be used on marimba and it won't ruin the mallets or the marimba. I'm using straight up vibe mallets, not hybrids, on a piece right now because I like the punch and the thwappy contact sound I get from them. You can use them just whenever you think it gets the sound you want for a piece, just like any other mallet.
The freshmen in my school use vibe mallets on everything because they're too lazy to find others. It drastically reduces the life of the mallet. We have (I think) one pair left that doesn't make a clicking noise when you hit the bar (the head is worn down that much). And I know they wear down normally, but like with everything it wears down faster if misused.
+Kyle Mincks Hi Kyle, just thought I would let you know that marimbist Davis Coleman transcribed this. If you're interested in checking that out, here's the link: drive.google.com/a/berklee.edu/file/d/0B0TwrpqjL6dQQ2laTktCd0hsZ00/view

Hats off!
GERSHWIN YAAS
Dope!!👊🏿👊🏿🔥🔥
Burton just always looks weird to me since everyone I know plays with and was taught Stevens grip. Great performance though! Always love Gershwin.
This actually isn't Burton grip. It's a variation called fulcrum grip if I'm not mistaken.
At least Burton doesn't look uncomfortable...
Burton or Stevens, it doesn't matter, what matters in the end is the result.
Wooow want to play this, Have a Marimba at home, where can find this partition ?

Can vibe mallets be used on marimbas? If so, in what style of music should vibe mallets be used on marimba?
No. It absolutely ruins the mallets
Yeah they can be used. Hes doing it right now? Theyre hybrid mallets
