After 4 babies, I had diastesis. After about 10 years of not even knowing it could heal without surgery, I started Pilates, and after a couple of years, it’s healed.
OMGOSH same story here!! I have six kids, including a set of twins! My oldest is 30 and my twins are 9. I started Pilates about 18 months ago. It was really amazing to see how quickly Pilates closed the gap. It took about 6 months, and I wore a waist trainer for a month during workouts only. It helped me focus on my movements. I am glad someone else posted about this. WE are the research. WE prove that Pilates can fix diastases!!
From a Pilates teacher and studio owner.... I love this! I’m so happy y’all have seen great results! Pilates is healing! This teacher is getting her book!

Thanks so much for this video! I've seen so many conflicting articles/videos about this issue. I was afraid of doing certain exercises, but now I feel confident that exercise in general is the answer.
Having two huge twins late in life I did have a gap and still do at 69. I found in senior years it is more of a problem than when I was 43. I have swam laps (1 mile in 50 minutes), weight lifting-didn’t help. We are getting a peloton hopefully that will help. Love your program.
I have diastasis recti from my second pregnancy. It took over 8 years with physical therapy to just stop the pain. I couldn't lay on my stomach during that time, I couldn't suck in my tummy, wear any pants that were tight on the stomach, or any type of girdle, or have my sons hug me too hard. Now 22 yrs later, if I sit up the bulge is 4 inches wide that pops up. It's still uncomfortable to lay very long on my stomach. my Dr. joked with me that I really don't have an alien baby inside. When I lose weight it is much better but it never goes away. I was so relieved when I was diagnosed since my husband just called me fat and left me and the boys.
You deserve a better man! TRY PILATES!!! I swear by it for closing my diastases. It took about 6 months. I wore a binder during my workouts only. I had a 4 inch separation and had the bulge as well. My oldest is 30 and twins are now 9. I started Pilates about 18 months ago with amazing results after 6 months. I was sooooo happy with the results. Please try it for 6 months, use a binder for the first couple months. Hugs, mama!!
Natalie, you birthed your son's..that is giving human life, don't let anyone put you down again! You are beautiful and you sound like a good mother God bless..
👍 great guest! Since she teaches yoga, I'm thinking it would be cool to ask her opinion on the postures you two don't like people to do... Maybe she could possibly show us how to modify those postures to prevent injury? I Do modify some of the postures I do in yoga per your recommendations on how they could be harmful but it would be Great to have a yoga teacher let us know the best way to modify them. Yoga is one of the few types of exercise i really enjoy but want to be sure I'm not harming myself. Thanks!
It is not just a female problem. I have seen a few clients that are men with it due to hard large abdominals and the same exercises and treatments work well. Increase pelvic floor support against IAP helps.
I would expect an expert in diastasis recti to have a more experience with this. Sounds like she just read a few studies and has never really tried to treat it.
@@heidipucci9078 the Barrel institute developed treatment protocol for manipulating the inferior and superior root if the messentery. It is a gentle traction which takes the pressure off the vasculature. The body will then remedy the seperation in the linea alba.
Too bad the newest research wasn't very clear at all. I have this diastasis recti, and if I try to do a sit up the middle of my belly goes up and out instead of in. Inconclusive. But nonetheless I always appreciate your work Bob and Brad thank you!
THAT'S WHAT -THIS -IS?!! OMGOSH!! 3 KIDS IN 6 YEARS and last two were over 10 lbs!! I thought I was just -BROKE!!!' I THOUGHT ONLY TUMMY TUCK SURGERY would help!! Or losing weight!! I THOUGHT this was ALL - MY FAULT#!- for being overweight still after the babies!! I'm gonna CRY!! So there's HOPE??? 😳😳😃🙏💕
I bet you both have only read research that are in the language of English. English-speaking countries are not the world. Traditionally in Asia, women have always worn binders postpartum for one month or more to close the gap in the ab. It's a common practice. You don't need a research paper to prove that it works. You can just SEE and compare waistlines to realize the fact is undeniable.
So my guess is that there’s three people so far who have given this video a thumbs up, were actually looking for some snake oil merchant. Dr. Sarah he’s one of only a few practitioners I have seen on the Internet that does not make outlandish, unsupported claims, but rather relies always on science, andStudies from reputable medical journals.
I am working mine back CREEPING CRAWLING started it back to control .. i started cuz my belly wanted to flop onto floor and I refuse to wear a diaper on my face or butt no matter how pretty!! also a big round dog bean bag "bed" is what I sit on...Quit sitting on your balls!!
