Guys and girls!! Thank you so much for checking in and joining us in our adventure trying to resurrect this old beast!! ❤❤❤❤ I’ll check back and reply to all of your comments over the next day or so, I’m on holiday in Morocco this week and completely overwhelmed with the unbelievable response we’ve had! More updates coming soon and the next video goes live at 5.00pm next Sunday 😊😊😊😊 thanks for watching! Llewelyn and Chris
Any questions you have or parts you need can be found at the zr1netregistry website. I brought a long dead ZR-1 back to life a couple years ago. If you try to crank it before you get oil pressure You will have loud clanking of the cam chains due to the tensioners not being pumped with oil so be careful. The fuel pumps and sender are most likely trash and the injectors especially as this has been sitting for so long I'm sure they are factory injectors.
Nice to find this kind of projects here. Good luck and a lot of patience with the LT5. For sure that you can bring back to life because LT5 are so reliable. All the best from Spain and if I can help you...
I brought my 91 ZR1 in 93 and gave it to my nephew 3 years ago (he keeps it insured for me as well), I have had to recommission it a couple of times over the years. Here are a few things that might give you grief, fuel injectors old GM injectors were steel and if they got a whiff of ethanol they rust up (RC Fuel Injection), fuel pumps, there are two of them, IAC (idle air control) valve and if the plugs, plug wires and coils are original you will need them (11.25:1 compression needs a healthy spark), if you can get them AC Delco parts are the best on this car. As you can imagine over the years I have had a few upgrades listed in fun and effect, 4.10:1 rear diff, then it is hard to separate, FlowMaster exhaust, Energy Suspension urethane bushings, Morrison Motorsport EPROM (yes from Tommy at the beginning of the video). I am looking forward to watching your build and give me a shout if you have something that you are stuck on I might be able to help.
Wow James, thanks for the info! I would love to do some upgrades such as a chip tune, exhaust, polybushes etc but for now we’ve got our work cut out with the basics! :) I can see me spending a lot on parts and shipping! 😭😅😅
@@Auto_Funk Having shipped over lots of Corvette parts because I can get them cheaper there than I can here in the UK, try and get all your parts consolidated in one box over there, Summit and Ecklers are good at this. As for upgrades the final drive will give you the biggest kick, OEM gearing was for Federal emissions / mileage stuff and made 6th gear all but useless. When you get it going you will find the OEM exhaust very disappointing. Bushings, there was some discussion at the time about were they trying to build a Cadillac, quiet and compliant? Urethane bushes give the front end a really nice accurate pointy feel but if you put them all round like I did quite hardcore and that is what I wanted. As for the EPROM I would be surprised if you can get one these days as very few people even know what they are. In real terms on a well tuned NA engine it doesn't make much difference to final output just more aggressive getting there. I have DIACOM OBT data logging software and the cable that goes with it but I don't have a 386 Windows machine to run it on, do you? What I didn't mention is vacuum leaks and the IAC valve between them they can make barely running into smooth as. When you study the throttle body you will see a tiny butterfly at the bottom, as with everything else important. More to follow as you go.
As an American watching, I'm impressed that you found one to begin with. I am very interested in how it progresses. Good luck. Thabk you Jonny and @thelatebrakeshow for the heada up.
Jonny sent me here guys. Well done in bringing it home safely. Will now be watching your videos as Iv'e always loved the Corvettes, ZR1 particularly! John from London!
Down here in the land of Oz I chanced upon the Johnny Smith site and now here I am. Was so heartbreaking to see that car parked for so long outdoors, but I am now subscribed to you guys to follow the fun travels of the restoration. Much respect for taking on the challenge.
Just subscribed I am looking forward to the rest of this restoration.Mike the the farm what a cool guy love that he had so many great car I would love to talk cars with him he must have some great stories.🤩
Whheeeey...another car nut, from Johnny's late brake channel! Always loved corvettes since early 80s.. can't wait to see how she improves 😎💪😋😉👊👍good luck guy's, its SO Worth it.
Another visitor from Johnnys channel. Looking forward to seeing you ruin your knuckles getting this roadworthy again 😊 Good lucks chaps. Subbed of course 👍
Tiff Needell is a legend, Jonny Smith has become a legend. True car people not just media people. Like many on here have subscribed and will like all your content as I do Tiffs and Jonnys. All the best with your new project. Oh and your disco 3 should only ever be owned by mechanics and technicians I follow LR Time from Germany and Christian is also a legend along with his lovely wife Vera. They have put me off ever owning any land rovers.
I’m here from the late brake show, can’t wait to see this project unfold, and your red corvette looks awesome, can’t wait to slowly go through your videos ❤
Jonny sent us! 😊 very glad he did as it looks like some great content. And, I need more channels to add to my viewing list: Matt Armstrong, Late Brake Show, Upbuild, Gary Mavers Classic Obsession, Budget Buildz and Tavarish. 👍
Found this on ebay and was watching it as I really fancied it mostly because I was fascinated years ago about them, when I read the book about the LT5 Lotus developed engine added to such an awesome shape car. Samcrac's? one also had the starter motor straight out when it wouldn't go! I'll be glued to this lads. good on you for saving it.
I used to have a 89 C4 and prior to my ownership someone had breathed on the engine and added a fair few go faster mods (no not stripes) that thing absolutely flew it was more power than I had ever experienced.
Make your next holiday a trip to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It's amazing as is the tour of the Corvette factory nearby. I found the C4 to be a wonderful GT putting 35,000 miles on it from Florida to Vermont and out to Kentucky multiple times. Cruising at 80 I got 30MPG. Of course, 6200RPM in second pulling onto the expressway gave me 5mpg, but oh what fun.
I remember talking about Will (the previous owner) in plumb centre in early 2000's as i quite fancied a corvette at the time (couldn't afford one at all but like to think about these things still) and i rember driving past and seeing is red one on his drive so was cool to see this. Good luck guys and hope you get running without to much hassle.
Have a blast in it once its done! Love your Channel Colin and all the stuff you do! All being well we are planning on taking the car up to Shetland so Will can see it!
I commented on the LBS video. I have a 93 base c4 and a 91 ZR1. The 93 has 160,000 miles and looks like it. Still fun and drives great. The ZR1 has 110,000 miles and looks like it has 10k. It was obviously very well looked after and loved until a few months before I bought it. The guy had to move and had to move it outside. Parked under a tree so the rubber surround around the gas cap clogged up and after a very wet winter filled the gas tank up with 8 gallons of water. I had a video of it running great before I bought it so I knew it was something simple. Pumped the fuel and water out with the in tank pump and it started up immediately. I finally replaced the smoked clutch and it's one of my favorite cars in my collection.
Just arrived a bit late, from the Late Brake Show. Im looking forwards to seeing the renovation, but also watching the subscribers go 0 - 60,000 in under 5 seconds 😊
I don't think so, that's not an area I would have travelled to back then. still, it might have been somewhere else in New Jersey, possibly atco raceway
