Top 10 Animated Action Movies of All Time | A CineFix Movie List

- Опубликовано: 7 июл 2024
- Cartoons are awesome! Action movies are awesome! But what about cartoons that are also action movies? The best! But how the hell do you narrow such a broad category down to just ten? That’s the same question we’ve asked ourselves all week! So here, from anime to pixar and rotoscoping to motion capture, are the 10 best animated action movies of all time.
On a literal level, the idea of animated action is basically redundant: action is animate and animation is active - for the sake of this list, let’s limit it to movies, as in feature films, with a substantial amount of fast-paced exciting stuff happening thanks to the magic of animation. But animated badassery has a long and winding history, so with another Miles Morales adventure swinging back onto the big screen with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse, let’s dig in.
This video was written and narrated by Max Scoville, and edited by Justin Donaldson.
The Picks:
#10 - Adapting the Medium - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) dir. Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, Rodney Rothman
#9 - Performance Capture - The Adventures of Tintin (2011) dir. Steven Spielberg
#8 - Influential Anime - Ghost in the Shell (1995) dir. Mamoru Oshii
#7 - Performance Capture Before it Was Cool - Fire and Ice (1983) dir. Ralph Bakshi
#6 - Cartoons That Weren’t For Kids - Heavy Metal (1981) dir. Gerald Potterton
#5 - Akira… This category is just called Akira - Akira (1988) dir. Katsuhiro Otomo
#4 - Anime Sneaking into the Mainstream… Ani-Mainstream ??? - Ninja Scroll (1993) dir. Yoshiaki Kawajiri
#3 - The Whole Miyazaki - Princess Mononoke (1997) dir. Hayao Miyazaki
#2 - Speed, Fast, Fast, Speed - Redline (2009) dir. Takeshi Koike
#1 - Superhero Action - The Incredibles (2004) dir. Brad Bird

It feels weird not hearing Clint's voice on a Cinefix top 10 list.
He gone?
Is Clint gone or just sick or something?
@@stellviahohenheim No he didnt, dont say shit like that
@@DigDug500It's true. I was the best man at his funeral.
@@rjmari Ur right I forgot, my dog gave the obituary
It's not only Clint's voice there is something different in the script, the editing and the choices. This list felt more like a ign or watchmojo list then my usual cinefix.
shut up about the narrator already, all of you are children please grow up
Yeah, somthing about this list feels a bit off from the usual quality. It not bad, mind you, just… kinda off. And yeah, i kinda got a wicked binge/watch mojo vibe from it too.
@@Brianna-eo8nu Definitely in the writing and the number of examples. They would normally have such a huge variety between their picks that we wouldn't have had heard of. But it seemed very sporadic in the amount of movies they would mention between each pick. Also it's always different when we get to hear a new narrator, we are used to his voice and it would very naturally get some taken use to, if you're so used to our main guys voice.
@@Brianna-eo8nu the thing that made me crave for a new list was the choices and the script. So in my opinion it's bad for my taste. But hey I might be the only one...
I noticed two things (there are likely more):
1. It just wasn't as well structured or cohesive. There were a couple of times where I wasn't sure if they were introducing the next item or elaborating on the last one. Part of that I think is that the other lists had a better (and concise) explanation of the criteria of the next item (e.g., "For number 10, were looking at an animated action film with good, well, animation."; "For number 6 we want to focus on movies that show character development through the action. Think _Crouching Tiger_ or ..."). I got the feeling they tried to do that here, but I couldn't tell you what any of the categories actually were.
2. What set CineFix apart others was they could explain _why_ something was good. Others will happily give you a top 10 and tell you "we like X because it has good Y". Ok, that's nice but _why_ is Y good? Watch Mojo will say, "We like the battle of Helm's Deep because it is epic in scale, but still easy to follow." CineFix will tell you "The Battle of Helm's Deep is easy to follow because of this here action pyramid. [Insert crystal clear explanation of what that is and why it works here]"
I'm sorry but, where is Clint?
Yeah, where's Dad? Oh, uh. I mean Clint.
WHERE IS HE
I miss Clint's voice, although nothing is inherently wrong with new guy. He's just new and will take getting used to.
What I really miss is the clarity and inclusiveness of the subcategory style of list I've come to know and love for CineFix's top 10 lists. I really hope that format comes back.
This isn't cinefix. I miss having a professional breakdown on why each film deserves its rank. This video just gives a wikipedia history of the movie. It doesn't explain the art behind it.
yeah this is kinda of sad ngl
My EXACT thoughts
I mean he did do that exact thing gave a reason why each movie is on the list specifically referencing it's importance art wise...
This hasn't been "cinefix" for around 2 years now, it's changed. Not for the worst or best, it's just changed and that isn't a bad thing.
It did say at the beginning of the video that the movies will be mentioned in no particular order. The intent of this video was just to mention them, not necessarily to rank them. Or at least that is what I got from that intro.
While I do miss Clint as a narrator, I am mostly concerned with the writing feeling so different from the rest of the Cinefix movie lists. I liked when the reasoning why the choice topped similarly qualified films and when there were more films listed as alternates or qualifiers. I know my discontent is mostly due to not liking change, but idk it feels more like it belongs to IGN now
yeah I always liked how for every entry they'd have like 5 or 6 other movies that could've taken that spot so the top 10 was really like a top 50
Your feeling is valid. The format was for movie fans that wanted to grow their love of cinema... this list is just limp in comparison!
This voice sucks honestly
I miss the old voice. He added a sincerity and professionalism to the videos
Same lol
Yeah this just undermines the masterpieces they’re discussing.
“Akira is just a fricking awesome action movie that happens to be animated”.
Erm….
RIP Clint
I desperately want Clint’s voice and writing back. I really miss his expert analysis on film and everything surrounding the medium.😢
Is he gone?
@@BooboosANDBloodshed_95 I honestly don’t know. I hope not.😥
This list sucks and this voice sucks.
It's not the same without the old voice ngl😢💔
Beyond the clint change, is the writing completely different?
I don't think they're top 10 all time, but you're right, not even seeing a mention of them as some popular animated action films is kind of odd. Especially with the low hanging fruit this script goes for.
@@majestyzx9081 Majesty, you can't keep getting away with this!!!
@@Her_Viscera you're right, cuff me, boys.
Or girls. I'm 100% inclusive now.
The cut to Jabba the Hut when referencing Weinstein is S tier editing
I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I don't like bashing peoples work but the scripting definitely felt very lazy this video, and the one video they did a while back about "Stand by me"
@@majestyzx9081 how is this related to the comment you replied to
@@Her_Viscera it responded to the wrong comment. The original comment I was responding to was talking about the quality of the script in this video.
Thought I clicked on the wrong video for a minute... Ahh well, knew this day was coming when IGN bought CineFix. Guess I'll go try and find out what Clint's up to now.
Please post here once you know.
There is zero doubt in my mind that this entire 30+ minute video was just someone trying to come up with a way to flex their knowledge that Wile E. Coyote's middle name is apparently Ethelbert.
I'm missing the "these things also represent this trope but aren't there..." bits
Seriously... what is this low quality WhatchMojo AI generated mockup? I just watched the first entry (#10) and paused to comment because... seriously, what the fuck? First, Clint isn't narrating here, and it feels super weird as his remplacement really got the 'up and down' cheerful tone of Watchmojo narrators. It really isn't the same style as the well paced and natural tone of Clint narration.
But that's not even the main problem. What's with the writing? The disclaimer flat out spoils three entries right out of the gate (and it easily could have been integrated organically in an entry with a single sentence, that was so clunky to start the video with it). And then, the intro of the entry is less than a minute, cite three movies that are not even eligible for the choice at hands (cause not animated), and boom we got the #10 right away. And just then we're served a mess of name droppings and dumping random infos without much of coeherence, and not even managing to focus more than 2 seconds on what the movie does differently that owes it the place in the top (what the fuck happened when we jumped from Batman animated series to, Lego Batman to Teen Titan Go! to the movies ?!?!?).
I'm not even sure I want to watch it further. I'm not against trying new things, but here the great Cinefix top 10 formula seems just hastily scrambled with no rhyme or reason. Tell me it has been written by Chat GPT, because else, it's really sad for the writers. I might come as harsh, but man am I disapointed.
I'll push further and give my final thought when the video fully watched.
It's even worse the more it goes on. What the actual fuck??? Not even citations or honorable mentions just before anouncing the laureate of each section! It feels so shallow and hard to digest. And what was that about tainting Princess Mononoke, of all movies, with its influence on Zelda and Elden Ring? Not that it's not the case, but how is that even relevant?!?
And, no, I won't accept the niche genre here to hold on the citations. There's a LOT of action focused animated movies that were worth mentioning. Even the #10 and #1 are overlaping as fuck, another category might have been used (cause come on... The Incredibles... very good movie, but there's a shitload even better than this one). Why not a "comedy action" category? Or Parody category? No mention of Wallace and Gromit the wrong trousers with its epic train scene, movie that was feature in the top 10 best animated movies of all time. No mention of Cowboy Bebop The Movie which is an amazing action blockbuster in itself. No mention of Mutafuckas, Animatrix, Primal, Kung Fu Panda, Afro Samurai, The Lego Movie, Mulan, The Legend of Hei, Team America World Police, Chicken Run, Epic, 9, Bolt, Paw Patrol the movie (I'm serious, it's more action packed than a Michael Bay movie, and the action slaps!), The Rescuers Down Under, Beowulf, Appleseed (two movies adaptations at least, which could have been mentionned when you focused on Ghost in the shell from the same author), Gantz Zero, The owls of Ga'Hoole, Final Fantasy the spirit within, Roujin Z, Steamboy (again, a full feature from Akira's author), Titan AE, Street fighter the animated movie, Tekkonkinkreet (Amer Beton), Toy Story 2, How to train your dragon 2, and countless japanese movies adapted from anime series or some amazing direct to video DC animated movies...
I mean, there's sometimes a choice I don't fully agree with, and always a few 2 or 3 movies that has been forgotten on the short list... but this an all time low. There's a great chunk of movies straight up ignored here. And not much
I really hope it's just a bump in the road an not the new direction the channel takes. Because that's borderline sabotage...
And I read other comments. There's more movies I haven't seen that are being mentioned. It's a a shame. The list doesn't talk one bit about cinema. It talks about movies, but not much about cinematography in a professionnal and in depth way we're used to. I double down here : that's not even good for WatchMojo standards. If I just want to be read a souless wikipedia article, I'd rather not spend more than 30 minutes on it. I'm so saddened...
100%
I’m saddened too. They assured us that when IGN bought them out, they would still retain what made them good. The last several weeks have been very destructive to the brand they worked very hard to build. I don’t see CineFix lasting much longer if they don’t course correct right now.
The random guy drawing Tintin is not random: it's Hergé, the creator of Tintin, and the drawing is exactly that of the comic strip
I'm very saddened that you didn't pick any film directed by Satoshi Kon, his influence resonates both in live action and animation.
I'd argue he specialized more in horror. Paprika was the closest to an action film IMO, and even then, all of the action took place in dreams
Yea I was thinking about Perfect Blue before remembering that that's much more a psychological thriller than an action
@@SunprismI'd argue back that Tokyo Godfathers finale is as action packed as much of the entries here.
@@Guile21 I just watched that one. It isn't an action film, so no, a charged finale doesn't automatically make it that genre.
None of his films are really "action" movies though
I miss having the runners up for each choice. Could have given a place for the Street Fighter Animated movie or Starchaser: Legend of Orin to be mentioned.
That said, the choices are solid. Into the Spider-Verse is on of my favorite movies of the last decade and I'm beyond excited for Across the Spider-Verse this weekend. It will be the three year old's first big screen experience. 🙂
Ahhhhh, time to go back and remember the good ol' days of Cinefix as we're never getting content even close to that again huh
No stop motion animation? You're missing out on top action scenes from both Aardman (Wallace and Gromit, Shaun The Sheep, Chicken Run) and Laika (ParaNorman, Kubo And The Two Strings).
The Curse of the Wererabbit is one of my go-to comedy films. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is a favorite.
@@thelostone6981 Completely agree. I'd hoped to see either the train chase from the Wrong Trousers or the aerial dogfight from Wererabbit.
ruclips.net/video/7nZUt8fVhN0/видео.html
And here's that amazing train chase for those who have not seen it: ruclips.net/video/jrmZIgVoQw4/видео.html
This is why the old list system was so pivotal! They would have had a section for 2d, 3d, stop motion, anime, foreign (outside of Japan and America) some choices from 50-100 yrs ago and every category would have included an amazing list of its own.
I loved Redline. It's the closest to a F-Zero movie we will ever get.
Aeon Flux should be on a list about action animation. Peter Chung's work is incredible.
It's not a movie, unfortunately.
10 most important questions. 1-10: where is Clint ? ?
I'll go to 11. Where is Clint?
*My Personal Picks For the Best Animated Action Films:*
*-* _The Castle of Cagliostro_
*-* _Farewell to Nostradamus_
*-* _Episode 0: The First Contact_
*-* _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse_
*-* _Akira_
*-* _The Incredibles_
*-* _Incredibles 2_
*-* _Puss in Boots: The Last Wish_
*-* _Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans_
*-* _Batman: Mask of the Phantasm_
*-* _My Hero Academia: Two Heroes_
*-* _Promare_
*-* _Princess Mononoke_
*-* _Steamboy_
*-* _Kung Fu Panda_
*-* _Naussica of the Valley of the Wind_
in terms of sheer choreography I think that Kung Fu Panda and Sword of the Stranger both deserve spots on this list
Sword of the Stranger HAS to be on this list :(
I was waiting for it to receive a mention in the same slot as Ninja Scroll.
Agree. I would've also added Dead Leaves to this list.
I’ve had a bad feeling about the quality of these movie lists since the previous list, and it hasn’t gotten any better. The movie lists used to really delve into the meat of what made each topic so significant in film and how each choice truly captured the theme of the video. Now, it just feels like a generic top 10 go-check-this-out list. The Number 10 slot alone spends 75% off its time talking about things completely unrelated to the topic of the video and another 20% talking about how great the movie is without discussing WHY it’s a great action film, even if it’s unanimously regarded as one, the video doesn’t seem interested in exploring anything much further with that. I don’t think I’m going to be watching the garbage this channel has become anymore.
Sorry Cinefix, RIP
Another someone used Google to come up with their list. Though the race car movie was the only unfamiliar one one the list for me.
Bro, i was only 4 minutes into the vid when i felt this exact same thing so i got a look into the comments and there you go i found your comment
I used to love the way that watching these lists felt like auditing a film class. We were not seeing “these popular favorites of mine”, but a deep dive into movies that some of us might not have even seen or know about.
the villains list they put out before this one was handled pretty well, large range of movies, concise themes for each pick, spots taken by movies I'd never heard of before but does a very good job convincing me they deserve that spot over everything else they'd talked about. good video, would recommend.
this video... doesn't do that. obviously a different writer, covering a topic they've only researched and not watched hundreds of movies in, talking about the movies they liked rather than talk through everything else they liked but couldn't justify giving a spot to.
nothing wrong with that, just shows there's a very delicate art to discussing movies in interesting ways, particularly lists
I feel like it needs to be stated how integral Brad Bird was in solving the uncanny valley dilemma of computer animated film. If you look at the humans of any Pixar movie predating Incredibles there is a huge difference in how they approached the character designs. Even Andy in Toy Story is pretty creepy. Bird was the one who argued to Pixar how animated art isn’t about making it as close to realistic as possible but it’s literally the opposite. Proportions should be exaggerated and unnatural physics are usually excused by the audience. Western animation owes so much of its recent success and culture to that man
Honorable Mention: Animatrix
I was looking for this comment. The Animatrix is insane with all it's different animation styles and great short stories! 🤘
I commented also that Animatrix should have been on the list
The cut to Jabba the Hut at 25:45 was absolute genius lol
Nice list, I agree with many of the choices. But I do miss the old CineFix depth: comparing other movies and why the ones selected are better than runner-ups, having some thought behind the ranking (either sheer quality, or covering different aspects of what makes a good action movie or what makes a good animated movie, for instance). Nice notes about a couple of the artists behind the movies, though; I had no idea Miyazaki & Moebius knew each other.
I agree that the video felt different, but I gotta say Max definitely has the animation nerd bona fides. Shout outs to Fire and Ice, Heavy Metal, and Ninja Scroll were great. Hell, the middle of this video is basically a short (albeit not in depth) lesson in the history of adult animation’s rise in popularity in the west, beat for beat. From Bakshi to Miyazaki. From dirty NYC theaters to HBO.
For sure, you could feel the difference from one of Billy’s scripts, but it’s pretty clear to me that Max has a deeper history with and passion for this specific topic.
Take or leave constructive criticism: stronger statements on why each film was chosen would be a good idea, and a wider array of other movies in order for us to compare and contrast would also help strengthen the video. But idk, I don’t get paid to make RUclips videos. Lol.
Either way, I really enjoyed the video.
This isn't cinefix. It's IGN MOVIES and I'll unsubscribe from it
“Why aren’t there more animated comic book movies?” He said, ignoring decades of WB Animation.
Yeah he sounds like a marvel fanboy.
LOL is Cinefix affected by the movie strike too? This feels significantly more bloated and less substantial than other lists. I mean when the first category on an ANIMATION list starts by highlighting live action movies and also with the narrator saying “yeah this isn’t actually the a top 10 list just a list to get exposure to movies” and it’s some of the most iconic animated movies of all time? and the lack of other mentions for several categories feels extremes counter intuitive to that message.
I get doing something different but to change what several held as the gold standard for lists to go back to the more conventional and overplayed format.
also, i noticed how the script mentioned that it hates that animated films being seen as below live actions but then cites live action films being influenced by animated film as a reason for why it earns a place in the top ten. the writing just isn't cinefix
We rewatched Who Framed Roger Rabbit about a month ago and with no hyperbole or exaggeration of any kind, the 'connection' between the live action actors and the animated elements is the best that's ever been put to film. Period.
In all seriousness, the locking of the eyes is absolutely perfect, the interaction with lice action elements, including shadows, is flawless. No one has ever done it better, how insane is that?
One of my favorite behind the scenes facts from that movie is a scene where Roger and Eddie are sneaking into a building. Eddie tells Roger to hide against the wall. However, Bob Hoskins forgot his eye line and was looking too high when he was talking to Roger. Nobody noticed this until post-production, but then they remembered there are no rules to cartoon characters, so when Roger backed himself against the wall, his body was flattened and made taller so he could maintain eye contact with Eddie. It’s so well done you would think it was storyboarded beforehand.
Agreed.
Though I did think the most recent chip & dale film Disney/Disney+ did was excellent, and as close to the genius “who framed roger rabbit?” as they have gotten since.
‘Heavy Metal’ as an influence for a Lobo filmed helmed by James Gunn could be epic
Waltz With Bashir is also an amazing animated action movie because it describes Israeli soldiers fighting in Lebanon. Unique animation and shocking action scenes.
The most underrated movie of all time IMHO!
An excellent film. Really missed out not even mentioning it in the rotoscope section.
The opening scene with the dogs alone is masterful!
Including Waltz with Bashir would really stretch the definition of action movie. It's fantastic, but neither the film's tension nor main conflict is based around overcoming an enemy or surviving, and there isn't much of what could be called action. It's hard to define what makes something an action movie, but it's got to be more specific than just anything that depicts violence on screen. I would call Bahir a psychological drama.
I take EVERYTHING back about TinTin. At cinema I thought it was soulless noise. But please... give it another go. Its a stunning slackstick joy!
In any case, gonna get more fun out of it than Spielberg's effort to come back to Indiana Jones with "Crystal Skull" or whatever Disney seems to be limping out for copyright protection with "Dial of Destiny".
The day Cinefix became watchmojo :(
What a sad list, what happened here? did Cinefix got hacked ?
Also where's Clint?
It's because IGN bought them a while back and they're taking over their channel
@@silvermoose2631 IGN bought CineFix years ago.
"Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie" has some great fight scenes. The Chun Li vs Vega fight is one of the best fight scenes I've ever seen, animated or not.
Yeah, that fight scene is so great people wore out VHS tapes rewinding it. You know, for the fight...
Oh that’s a new voice
It's Clint or nothing...
So glad that princess Mononoke was so high on the list. The 1st anime I'd ever seen and the 1st animated film I'd seen that wasn't strictly for kids. One of my favorite films of all time with a fantastic story of humans living with nature and a great nuanced ending. It also has a great BTS of how it was made and came to the states. If you haven't seen it or want to show anime to a person not a fan of anime. This is the movie to show them. Seriously it's a 10/10.
I'm glad Pixar was mentioned but if Dreamworks had been included I would've nominated Kung Fu Panda. Also because there was an unfortunate lack of martial arts action (besides maybe Ghost in the Shell).
I HIGHLY recommend the Chilean movie Wolf House. One of the most exhaustingly beautiful animated movies ever created. You won't take your eyes off the screen for a single second.
This video feels different.
It's all over. Cinefix had a good run but the cooperate world has won again!
Don’t ruin cinefix IGN, get Clint on the voice. He’s as integral to the brand as the name.
I was surprised to see The Mirror on every spot of the list, but after 30 minutes you've convinced me it was the right choice
Genndy Tartakovski's Primal is the best, although not a movie, but still
"Kubo and the two Strings". Beautiful, action packed, and touching,
The scripting and reasoning for movie choices are a little odd. There have been some great western action animation that just gets ignored in favor of "Anime" style action movies, some of which are also amazing. Missing some obvious choices like Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is kind of a crazy one to not even mention if you're talking about only strictly ACTION animated films. Or the highly underrated Battle Angel Alita.
Thank you for giving Fire and Ice its credit. My parents bought it for me for Christmas when i was way too young and i loved it! Dark Wolf is such a bad ass
Love the video, can only imagine how much work was put into the script and the edit. Great job 👍 I like the new narrator/writer, he clearly cares.
Stopped watching when he said "There hasn't been enough animated superhero action movie". Clearly a lie, cause DC/WB has been producing an animated film almost every quarter. This Dude obviously haven't watched enough films.
Redline is probably one of my favourite films of all time. The soundtrack, the visuals, the sfx, just... what a RIDE
The Incredibles was the plot twist that had me like "WHAT?!"
The Adventures of Tintin - finally a deserving place among the best animations of all time! Soooo underrated! Great pick!
Missing Kubo and the Two Strings. Beautiful and exhilarating animated movie, plus it's stop motion.
Definitely not a top 10 movie but I have always felt that The Transformers (1986) holds up pretty well as an action-adventure thanks to the more realistic approach to violence and death, the phenomenal soundtrack that drives every second of the movie, and great set pieces like the Battle of Autobot City and the demolition derby in the Pit of Judgment. Excellent voice cast, as well.
It's my favourite and my most rewatched but yeah, not objectively in the top 10.
Redline getting it's flowers! Under appreciated and truly amazing to watch!
Did not expect to see Ninja scroll or Red Line here.

This isn't a "Top 10" like the others on the channel. It's more of a history of animation lesson as detailed through 10 interesting examples. I like most of these movies, but it felt waaaay too long to me.
I agree with much of this list, and you've inspired me to check out a few new films.
Thank you for acknowledging how severely underrated Tintin is
Excellent list! I'm glad Wizards got a quick screenshot at the end. I would have included the original Fantasia in there somewhere, but ali-in-all a great list.
I can't believe you left out The Iron Giant, Tron and Kubo and the Two Strings. ✌
This was a great video. I’ve liked all of them but I learned a lot in this one and started going down a lot of rabbit holes in regards to heavy metal and mobeus.
Always glad to hear Maxs voice reminds of the old Destructoid and Rev3 games days
IGN, this isnt a bad list or bad video, Max Schoville did not do a bad job narating, and the topic isnt a dull topic. But this video is getting poor reception because it feels like an IGN video, not a Cinefix video. While there is crossover between viewership, the Cinefix audience wants more depth, analysis, and more artful/ obscure choices, instead of the more obvious (and probably more "correct" or universally believed), IGN/ Watch Mojo choices and surface level plot summaries and character profiles.
I worried that when IGN acquired Cinefix, these were the videos we would get, but I was plesantly surprised that Cinefix seemed to work the same it always has been. Please dont let this become the new normal
The Animatrix is easily one of my favorite animated action movies.
I see a lot of negativity in the comments, though I really enjoyed this new format. I thought you delved deeper into each pick instead of losing time shuffling through loads of possibilities
A perfect list! Chef's kiss!
I am so glad that you included Tintin! Btw, that's Herge that is drawing Tintin in the opening shot of the film.
I've probably seen Princess Mononoke in theaters at least 4 times over the years, one of my favorite Ghibli productions second only to The Wind Rises.
That said, the best anime movies are End of Eva and Macross DYRL although I guess they aren't really action films despite alien mech fights
"I lost my body" is an amazing animated action adventure film that deserves a mention here.
it's not really action though. more of a drama with romance and existentialism at its core.
@@themexis Not that i disagree, but if Heavy Metal can be considered action, then I lost My Body has more than enough action in the hospital escape scene alone to be justified as one.
Holy crap, that felt like a movie appreciation class mind dump. The trivia, the minutia, the references and rapid fire delivery just left me reeling. This is not Clint, it is something different but no less pleasing. It's higher energy and fun...I love it!
Redline over Ghost in the Shell and Akira?
You gotta be smokin
The Top 10s on Cinefix are usually not a ranking *between* the videos.
Cinefix lists are generally not sequential, they're best in overall genre or specific sub categories
Wow, I've never heard of Redline, which feels crazy because of how it visually looks!
me too
@@Asiasushja me either... it looks awesome
Another amazing list, too many animated films added to the watchlist 🤩
Starting off by spoiling three of the spots is kinda unsatisfying
but did they subvert your expectations tho.
Spirited Away is Masterpiece...
It is, but it's not really an action film.

Very late to this video - but in case Max reads this somehow. I think you did great work here! Obviously a much different approach than Clint but you’ve made some super interesting choices and really opened my eyes up to many different types of animated films
I think we can all agree that Clint.
What about the underrated Disney masterpiece Treasure Planet?
Really glad to see The Adventure of TinTin get some love!
What have you done with Clint
I hope Cinefix will do a Top 10 "Best anime/cartoon movies of the Decade" regardless of genre from the 1930s up to 2020s.
I thought it was pretty clear by now, but if not, I'll keep asking for this list until I get it
great list
A NEW VOICE! IT'S THE END OF THE WOOOORLD!!!
Yes, and Craig is leaving “Welcome to the Basement”!
I believe that the dirigible rescue at the end of "Kiki's Delivery Service" is one of the most thrilling action sequences I've seen in ANY film. The use of sound (and the lack of music), the suspense, the recklessness of some of Kiki's flight, the extraordinary timed-to-the-frame pause (picture and sound) at the climax - it's all great. But what really makes it work is the power of emotion, which is really rare for an "action sequence." I never get tired of watching this (and it's still my favorite Miyazaki film).
You just reminded me that “The Incredibles” isn’t sitting on my DVD rack. Must correct that as soon as possible.
as a fan of animation this list is totally cool and rad!
Everybody hatin on this poor guy’s list but this is a great list and the quality is consistent with Clint
CineFix talking about Ninja Scroll, Never thought i'd see the day
Entergalactic with the paint aesthetic
Vampire Hunter D was the first anime I ever saw. Ninja Scroll was the 2nd and Demon City was the third and damn did I fall hard for the medium.
What happened to Clint? Is he safe? Is he alright?
Fire and Ice?! One of my favorites in terms of visual storytelling that never got it's due... until now.
