    Feb 2021- Some people have asked why I have been leaving trail and summit names out of many of my recent videos. This decision came due to issues with what I would consider uneducated hiker behavior during the 2020 hiking season. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I had been finding directly on or next to the trail. With the pandemic hitting a lot of people took to the outdoors for escape and I certainly cannot blame them. In fact, I encourage it. However, it appears many of these people did no research on common outdoors etiquette or how we should treat the trails and outdoor areas that we and others regularly frequent for recreation and escape.
    If you are using this video for planning purposes and are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail. This video is me explaining some of the etiquette around hiking and camping that I wish others had shared with me when I started getting outdoors: ruclips.net/video/dhd7E4rGIwA/видео.html
    And please familiarize yourself with the principals of leave no trace
    lnt.org/why/7-principles/

    Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0
    Another article about Max Patch (an iconic part of the Appalachian Trail) and the issues occurring there www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/09/23/max-patch-residents-campers-creating-safety-hazards-mountain/5858936002/

    I moved to within 2 miles of these peaks last year . I hike these 2 as training for the larger Whites to the south. Sometimes twice a week between May and early November. Its the perfect difficulty level for me to get in shape for the more serious ascents. Thanks for the vid !

    Really cool video and Awesome hike! The camera you’re using is sick!!! I’ve decided to use my iPhone though for my AT thru hike vlog and get the mount for my trekking pole and the tripod you suggested :-P. If people enjoy my videos on trail than possibly I’ll invest in something better . We shall see!! I’m a new subscriber and looking forward to see more vids!

      Thanks julie! Ya it’s best to start with what you got. No use on spending a ton of money if you don’t happen to enjoy it. Best of luck on the AT!

    What a beautiful day to do this epic hike! Wow wow on those VIEWS! 👍🏻😎. I really love an incline with large open slabs and views 👏🏻 .... of course not so much if it’s wet or icy! 😬. Great video Chris - thanks for sharing! 😀

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад

      It’s was arguably the perfect day for the hike. The cloud formations were great too. Ya I would not want to be on those slabs in the rain if possible haha. As always, appreciate ya watching!

      I loved it up in this area. I've wanted to move to NH or somewhere closer to the mountains in general for a long time. Would love a super tiny home in an area like this

  • @beckiejani7782
    @beckiejani7782 6 лет назад

    Loved it! Did it last year and had a day like yours. Did you see the canister (actually a glass jar, if it's still there) on South? Reads like a Who's who, even has little ol' us! We did Shelburne Moriah from the Rt 2 end of the Shelburne trail that day, then yesterday (rainy rainy rainy) we bought the Cohos Trail book and map on the way home. Between that and the timing of your video maybe I'm getting a message from above.....

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад

      Haha I actually got the cohos trail map a couple weeks ago. I was actually considering doing it. We walked right by the canister at the top. It’s actually in the video but we did see it when we were leaving. Shelburne is on my list. You recall any good camp spots anywhere along there?

    • @beckiejani7782
      @beckiejani7782 6 лет назад

      Prema found a great one (she could find them blindfolded in the middle of night!). Right below the junction of Kenduskeag there is a great one (and legit, too, dimension wise). If you're heading up from Rt 2, it's on the left, right before you hit the junction.

      I have the Zpacks Nero at the moment and have been enjoying that. If I got rid of it I would personally look into the Gossamer Gear Kumo.

    Great vid Chris. As you stated looked like epic view and epic skies at times as well with nice cloud formations. Must have made for some great pics. What was elevation gain start of hike to North peak summit?

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад +1

      It really was optimum conditions! No sure the elevation gain direct to the north peak but I believe the entire hike is around 2200 ft of elevation. Basing that off what I found on the internet and our iPhone health app

    Hey Chris, brilliant camera work as usual. Some of those camera shots with successive background mountain peaks calls out my name.

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад

      Thanks Lucky! Been trying to up the shots and editing aspect the best I can. I feel like I almost climb the mountains twice with all the back and forth running I do to get the shots haha. Appreciate you watching!

  • @werdw4849
    @werdw4849 6 лет назад

    The exposed top of the mountain and the views must of been great. Where would be the nearest camping area to those peeks?

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад +1

      There is the Percy Peaks campsite we stopped at in the video. Thats the closest one I know of. From what I read online it would have actually have been fine to stay there. We were unsure as we saw no camping signs at the entrance of the forest but apparently that is aimed at car campers

    • @werdw4849
      @werdw4849 6 лет назад

      ChrisGoesOutdoors if you did the hike again would you tie in another mountain to climb or peak to bag to make it a multi day hike? How long did the drive take you to get there?

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад +1

      took me probably 3.5 hours from just south of Boston. I leave really early in the morning (usually around 4:30am) so there is very little if any traffic usually. If I went back I would have camped at that campground and then done the sugarloaf mountain in Nash Stream forest as well. Its just a little bit up the road from there and also on the 52 wav list.

    great video Chris! The slab part of north percy reminded me of welch dickey slab! That slab was scary to me! lol! Might check this one out! I just climbed mt washington a couple weeks ago..OH BOY is all I can say! HA! Have a great rest of your summer and I am looking forward to my fall hiking!

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад

      It definitely has the Welch Dickey vibes for sure. Ya Washington is probably my least favorite of all the summits ive been on. Absolute zoo. Gotta go back in winter Haha. Thanks for watching!

      honest to god I hated it at the top!!!!! The only peaceful time up there was at the alpine zone! I spent two hours there. It is one of the most beautiful places. Its a gem we have in our state for sure..have a good one.

  • @TubaSolotheHiker
    @TubaSolotheHiker 6 лет назад

    Wow. Cool looking place. That rock slab walk reminded me of Half Dome. Camera never seems to do steepness justice, is that part sketchy at all?

    • @ChrisGoesOutdoors
      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад

      I didn’t think it was too bad. The rock itself was super grippy. I can imagine in the rain it maybe severely less fun though. It reminded me of one of the mountains in Maine in the AT. I couldn’t for the life of me think of the name

      ChrisGoesOutdoors Awesome ! I finally made the effort to knock off Owls Head this past weekend. The water levels were low. You were correct, that slide is no joke ! Cheers !

      @ChrisGoesOutdoors  6 лет назад

      Nice! Seems water levels are pretty low all over. Girlfriend is on the long trail she said a lot of the sources are dry. I’ve been running into low sources myself out in the whites. Glad you conquered owls head!
