The approach looks like a dream gift to hackers and totally unnecessary for the task. If both PC's are on the same Router (LAN), then both are already on the same Private Network. Just share the folder. You need only tell the computer once what the user name/password is (which you should know if you log into the laptop).
Thanks for posting this... I totally forgot and it's much easier and SAFER to do it this way when you are on the same router! This message should be PINNED
Well, in my home network with 2 computers, I can't access the C drive of the other computer. There is no "share" on "C" to make it work. If you have a better solution, please post a how-to for us.
@@hesleyt - There are a couple of ways to do this from the primary computer (the one you're sharing a folder with).
1) Sharing is a feature available in the Properties dialog box. One must first right click the folder to select Properties. Then, click on the Sharing tab. You should NEVER share the entire C drive. You should select only the folder you wish to share. When you click share, you'll be presented with a selection box to select any of the users on that same computer, or you can create a new user. This is fine for a local user, but not ideal for a second computer that doesn't use the same user. Instead, use "Advanced Sharing". Check the box that says "Share this folder". Click the Permissions button to select the type of access you want to give (e.g., Full Control, Change, Read). Here, you can also add users.
2) Right click the folder (not the C drive, but a folder lower in the structure) and select "Give Access to". Select Specific People.
On the second computer, expand "Network" and find the computer name of your first computer. If selected and it expands, select the folder on the main computer you want to view. Then for user name and password, use the Windows User Name / Password you use on the primary computer. This will let you see everything in that folder that the primary computer user can see in that folder.
If you can't see the other computer, you might have to adjust another network sharing option. This one is found by opening Settings (gear box at Start Menu), then "Network & Internet" icon which lands you on the "Network Status" screen. Then, select "Network and Sharing Center". Select Advanced Sharing Options. Turn on the network discovery within the Private (current profile) network. Expand All Networks and "Turn on password protected sharing" under "Password protected sharing". This will allow your computer to be seen by other computers on the network and gain access if they have the login credentials used on the local machine.

@@InfoSecGuardian Absolutely the best and easy file or folder sharing method! Question: I want to install a program from a CD disc to my HP laptop but the Laptop doesn't have a disc drive. Can I share the disc drive from another computer so that I can run the program into my HP Laptop?

How it's work when PC No 1 gateway is 192.168.1.2 and PC No 2 is 192.168.1.1 ? This is the IP of the router and must be the same !,and how PC No 1 has the same IP as the second gateway ?

@@excaliburgz1996 Just give it up trying to connect two or more computers to the same screen. We can not wait for months or years for the technology to make that happen arrive to the market. People told me this was easily doable and showed me all kinds of switches. So I tried one of them and realized nobody actually knows how to do it.
I had my computers connected for months, but somehow, they've disconnected from one another in the past day or so. Not sure how or why, but yeah... It isn't as easy as people make it seem.

This does not work now, it would have worked in those previous versions of windows.
I do not think it even worked for those. Since computer manufacturers do not seem to want computers to be able to find each other easily, it makes sense why it was so hard to try to connect two computers to the same screen to begin with. People were wasting their time trying to do so, so its time to focus on other things.
