Not to my knowledge. I did it one year with my middle school band for a pep rally...coordinated with the cheerleaders...turned it out!!!!! That was twenty years ago!

This is one of the very last songs Sam recorded. This was the direction he was headed. What he considered "all sound." Bobby Freeman's the swim inspired him to write and record this song. He would've been an unbelievable force into the late 60's and into the 70s. RIP to the master.

Sam Cooke's biggest posthumous hit, 1965's "Shake" was the last and most successful in a series of dance-themed efforts including "Everybody Loves to Cha Cha Cha" and "Twistin' the Night Away," and while it could be argued that such lightweight fare was far beneath a vocalist of Cooke's emotional depth and technical artistry, there's also little denying the single's standing among the most ebullient and infectious records in his catalog. Distinguished by a propulsive, rhumba-like rhythm and a horn arrangement straight off a Motown chart, "Shake" is much more nonsensical than the singer's usual material ("Shake it like a bowl of soup/And make your body loop-de-loop"), although its basic mandate -- "Just move your body all around and just shake!" -- articulates with typical eloquence the reckless abandon so central to the rock & roll spirit. Otis Redding's rendition (one of three Cooke covers from his superb Otis Blue LP) speeds up the tempo and strips away the veneer from the original, infusing the song with a healthy dose of down-and-dirty Memphis soul; on subsequent readings from his Live in Europe set and the Monterey Pop Festival, Redding doesn't shake so much as he spasms, completely liberated in the fervor of the moment.
