I've got 15 of the 8 footers in my barn for 4 years now. I've had to warranty them a few times, they just tend to burn out over time. I've had to replace every one of them over the past few years. I think the problem is when you link them together. I've got a few single ones I put on my 2 post lift for under car lighting when a car is up in the air and they are the only ones to never go bad. My logic was the same as yours, ever if I have to pay out of pocket to replace them they are still cheap enough to make it worth it.
These are great. I have tried the screw in the socket lights and they are great except they have 1 year life with my use. Not bad, $22 for a set. I like these because they look like they cover more area than a spot like a screw in. I would buy few extra for replacement though.
