  • I am going to install some very bright LED garage lights in the pole barn. They are a High Bay LED light, made by HyperLite. And with 21,000 Lumens of output, they are very bright. And the concrete contractors come back and pour concrete in front of the pole barn. The pole is really looking finished from the outside now. Then I will cover the cost of building the pole barn so far.

Your lights are dimmable if you add a dimmer switch according to the link info. You may never want to but with a dimmer switch you’d have the option to do so. Great homestead.

Good morning Evan, Those lights look great! Those are the same ones we have been considering for out 192x70 building currently being worked on. I saw you mentioned sales tax, have you looked into filing for farm tax exemption? To my knowledge you would meet all criteria, could result in some major savings! Just a thought.

Evan, I picked a industrial fan. Well kinda . It sits on the floor, you can fill it with water or ice, It has a drain on the back that you can hook a hose up to for drainage. It works great. I have one sitting on our deck to get the air circulation. I got it at Lowes.

No one could foresee the outrageous inflation we have experienced after many years of zero increases or even deflation. It's an awesome building for Country View Acres for decades to come. Plus, you should be able amortize the cost on your taxes. That should take a little of the sting out of the expense.

Can you provide the dimensions of the building? In looking at the spacing on the poles and number of sections it seems to be about 48x64, but when you mention inside square footage it seems like it should be much larger.

Get a large exhaust fan and install in the back of the barn, then when any window or door is open it will pull the hot air out and fresh air in and will be a lot cooler. Think about a night light on the front of the pole barn and one on the light pole you ran power from and that way you could see at night if you needed to. The lights look really bright and you did a good job of wiring everything.

I just watched this video because I just had a steel building done and was looking for lighting ideas (you're the 4th person I've seen use these). I had to laugh when you told what the total spent was up to that point...I'm in Oregon (where everything is wayyyyy more expensive apparently). I just built a 24x70 steel building with 12ft walls...the excavation costs to prep the area and remove rocks from an old barn foundation from 1887 was $10,200, the concrete for a 24x70 slab with a rat ledge and 6" deep was $21,000, the steel building frame and sheeting was $41,500, the two 10x10 insulated R16 doors were $6700, the closed foam spray insulation is quoted for 3 inches on the ceiling and 2 inches on the walls for $10,000, and I haven't got the electrician bid or the cost for the power company to run the line to the mast on the shop yet...so, for a 1680 sq ft building, I'm right at $89,400!! So I COMPLETELY know what you meant about throwing up and being a little in shock! I had an $80,000 budget and that was including the fence we just had built for $10,000!! 273' of cedar fencing...sheesh - in Oregon - where we grow the damn wood!! It's ridiculous! My shop is costing me $850.00 a month for the next 10 years! When it's done, I'm going to be about $15,000 over budget! I feel your pain brother!! :)

This is the reason I never tallied up the cost of our pole building. We bought a farm with a bare interior Morton building this year. I finished off the space just like you, with spray foam and even the UFO lights. I also did blow in ceiling insulation and finished the walls with plywood 8' up with tin for the upper 5'. You and I are kings of bad timing for building supplies. Good luck, I enjoy the channel.

That is one beautiful pole barn, and I think with current construction prices, you got a good deal. I think I would have had the same reaction as you, that sticker shock can be quite nauseating. Put into perspective though, some people spend that much on their car. Either way you've got a beautiful workspace, that's going to allow you to do a lot of your own maintenance, and building projects, and you can't put a price on that. I am quite envious, that is one beautiful place. God bless, Jimmy

rommex wire staples are to be within 6 inches from the box to meet code. or maybe you are not getting inspections?
When you were talking about concrete, wire mess is for a patio, basically.
The slab for vechicles and for sure for trucks and tractors needs to be 6" thick with #4 rebat at 18 inches each way, set up on 2" dobies so it isnot laying on the ground. It should also be min of 3,000 psi mix and We usually will use 4,000 psi mix in a cold climate. FYI
For heat. radiant heat is what I put in when I poured my concrete.

The pad should be thicker for the weight it will have to carry. Around the edges..... Will tend to break off..... on weight. I would check with the contractor.... Hate to see you pour again....... Please consider!!!!

Nice building for the money. I am having the condo tub gutted for a new custom shower. I also want to puke. And after this job I too will be out of money. I will have to just suck it up and be happy with the shower. 🙂

the pole barn may have coat you more thzn plznned znd it will cost you some more agsin to get it finindhed up,BUT, look upon it his way. It's an invesstment, you have the facilities to process your animals, which although it eill tske its time eill recoup the expense of the build itself than if original quote price ) and also in addition it provides shelter storsge and so much more.

Do you know how many wraps of tape it takes to protect you from shock?
Believe it or not, it is one layer of tape, to protect you from 120VAC shock.

price tag t 30% higher than what you thought you would of been right in line if not for the crazy supply chain BS. only way to avoid it would of Benn to sit and wait till prices dropped. But then you would of lost all winter and who knows what in productivity of working your farm.

Looks great now, 100k finish cost sounds a lot but it’s a lifetime investment, will you be using a wood burning heating system or some other system?

Holy moly that's a lot of money but think of it as an investment and blame the pandemic for prices going up. It shouldn't of cost that much but what you going to do about it? Nothing.
