    Really nice work, on the bus build, and on the filming/editing! So adorable when your son was falling asleep in his little car, LOL!

      Thanks guys! I really appreciate that. And haha yeah, he falls asleep on that thing pretty often actually. Lol the wind in his hair is just what he needs to pass out.

    looks beautiful and peaceful with the birds chirping and whatnot. Then you go and mess that up with your grinding/cutting lol j/k
    Wow... what a cute moment, that poor son of yours was like, "What am I doing here, can't you see I'm sleepy!?!?!?!" lol

    I was just watching your sectional couch video and realized we got the same welder. I started building my racks for my solar panels just like your tool boxes, using nuts and bolts as a backup to the welds. Great minds think alike. Mediocre minds as well.

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 года назад

      Haha yes they do! The welder is pretty legit for only $100. It's done everything I've needed for our bus. I'm pretty happy with it. And I think the welds have a enough strength even without the bolts.

    Dude, so grateful that you made this so easy to understand. Thank you and just subscribed because you are awesome! We will probably film our version of this in the future if because it’s bound to be slightly different but I will still use tips from your videos so thank you so much again brother!

    Looks like your welding had enough umph after all. That looked like flux cure. Flux core doesn't make the prettiest welds, but gets it done. Nice job! Kiddo looked like he was ready for a nap.

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 года назад

      Yeah I think it will hold up just fine actually. I welded on every open joint just to make sure. I'm sure it was overkill but there might be a lot of weight under there at times. And yes! Haha he has passed out on that thing quite a lot.

    Great weld job & a wonderful idea to reinforce the overlap with bolts 👍 Be sure to pay attention to the factory set departure angle that is on the rear. Going lower than the original skirt can potentially cause a bottom out situation or dragging the tail on the rear and high centering the middle. But I’m sure you already thought of all that considering your FJ experiences!
    Keep rocking it!

      Yeah it was definitely on my mind. I did have to make the box in the back a little bigger but we still have about 16" to the ground and out bus is flat nose 35' so we would have to be at a gnarly angle or big hump for it to scrap. Thanks for watching guys!!

    • @BEAdventurePartners
      @BEAdventurePartners 4 года назад

      Backroad Purpose good good! I haven’t done the math for the departure angle on the tail. Ours is a flat nose rear engine & we already dragged our tail out of a grocery store drive way once (and it didn’t seem that steep). We’d hate for y’all to tear off the generator box!
      Are y’all going to set it up so the generator can run while stowed? And be turned on & off from the interior?

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 года назад +1

      Oh bummer! I bet that was a little scary to hear at first. Lol I think we should be good on most places. Backing up on some inclines in my only real concern.
      We can running while it is mounted under the bus but we don't have it set up with an interior on off switch. Our generator is just a basic generator for back up and to run the AC.

    FYI I would keep most of the added weight in front of your rere axle and try to balance it somewhat on both sides of the bus.Great Job welding.

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 года назад +2

      Definitely! That's why I wanted to put the grey water tank on the opposite side of the Diesel tank. And our fresh water tank is directly over the rear axle.

    Dumb question, what is that cord for plugged into the bus?

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 года назад +1

      it's the 30amp shore power so bypass our solar when we are plugged into a house or campsite.

    • @chrisfarley9213
      @chrisfarley9213 4 года назад

      Backroad Purpose right on thanks! I am about to buy my first bus as was curious as it had this plug on the back like that. Kinda looked like a 220 plug so I was confused

      has it been converted yet? it might be the block heater. it's designed to keep the engine warm in cold weather

    • @chrisfarley9213
      @chrisfarley9213 4 года назад

      Backroad Purpose I would assume it’s the block heater, this bus is coming straight from a school depot. Do you have any videos on converting? New sub since last night so I haven’t looked all through your videos.
