Great video ma'am, I love learning new history and being a fella from Illinois I had never heard of this! That being said didn't Noreasters crush that poor island?
Glad you enjoyed it! Most locals know nothing of it either unless they caught the state's brief apology a few years ago. Such is the way of these things!
I am a resident of the deepest water harbor (pronounced watah habah) in Maine, do you know it? Miss home here in Michigan teaching my 7 & 8th grade literature class and reading Gary B. Schmidt's "Lizzie Bright & the Buckminster Boy" which centers around this specific conflict as historical fiction. I miss diggin' clams and lobstering/island hoppin' with my dad
Eastport has a looong fascinating history! It definitely deserves some attention in an episode or two at some point. I think I might have talked about it briefly in the pirate episode.
annoying botanist here - but just fyi - while Monotropa uniflora looks like fungus, its actually a flowering plant in the blueberry/cranberry/rhododendron family (Ericaceae). it gets its looks bc its a parasite (specifically a mycoheterotroph) that doesnt contain chlorophyll, getting its energy from its host fungi food source opposed to photosynthesis. if you look close at the 'pipe' part you can kinda see some visual similarities to huckleberry/blueberry fruits common to their shared family. ghostpipe also grows where i'm from in Oregon and they're usually misidentified as a mushrooms here as well, so i go around all like ‘ummm actually, those arent fungus’ like a nerdy dickhead whose opinion no one asked for. also love the channel ;)
JEN!!!! Honks!! I knew I knew that voice! Awesome!! :) Kk getting back to the video :) Liked and subscribed! ok, so wow I hadn't ever heard about this before! What was done to these people was just appalling. Shameful. All they wanted to do, was just live thier lives and be left alone. Guess they weren't 'living their lives the way everyone else thought they should' . So sad to know about things like this. But I'm always into learning about the history of people and places that we were never taught about in school. Wonderful narration! Ok I'm off to watch parts 2 and 3 now!

Excellent 👍
I spent my early childhood in Eastport and my dad ran the Eastport Sentinel. In recent years, I’ve been Thai king
