Ho assistito allo stesso concerto in quegli stessi giorni all'Arena di Verona, una luna enorme in bilico sopra l'anfiteatro faceva da scenografia, uno dei concerti più belli della mia vita
Simon Phillips in one of his best tunes (however, his drumming manner is awesome)! NB: drumming and percussion section from "Mount Teide" by Simon Phillips and Carl Palmer (refering to "Five Miles Out"album) blowing your mind! But, a hi-hat for Simon's drumming sections on "Crises", "Taurus II", "Wind Chimes", "The Lake", a.s.o. Many thanks for your drummings Mr. Simon Phillips Arnold Sturm from Romania

Such a good quality recording considering almost 40 years ago. I had the privilege of seeing this tour in Brussels. I swiped a poster off the wall advertising this gig and still have it today. So sad to hear of Phil passing last week.
Found it few days ago, absolute fantastic, I never imagined that complex music like Crises can be played live. Excellent. And the mimics and the face of Phil Spalding on bass is unbelievable, he enjoys the concert very much. . Thumbs up. And last but least...Simon Philips on drums, genius.
Saw Mike Oldfield tour in '79 and '80 in Portsmouth (might have the dates wrong), the music and the animations by Ian Emes were fantastic. Superb optical illusions (water falling up and down a fountain , little figures climbing the stairs and going nowhere and was that a giant Gorilla projection for Platinum part of the show. Why is this Viareggio concert not released on DVD?
Mike Oldfield is absolutely amazing. I have been following him since Tubular Bells was first released by Virgin. Always has a terrific group of musicians round him. Great to see Phil Spalding in this lineup.
... such great memories!!! Barry having some serious trouble singing Jon Anderson (or monitor problems), but: I love all this !!!! Saw this tour in Bremen then, and - as a REAL Oldfield-Fan and young drummer - all that had such an impact on my sensibilities !! Got some autographs from Mike & Simon by a hotel-maid after that & ... I nearly died with luck !!! (got to meet Simon twice, decades later, and : we shook hands and I was still too shy to say a word!!) I really Love Crisis + Discovery + all the albums before !! (sorry for my poor English)
Super performance! Seeing that Europe is Oldfield's bread and butter, weird that he should be quoted supporting Brexit in 2017, like sawing off the branch he is sitting on 🤔
I was a 14 year old junior high school student in Schweinfurt, Germany and my best friend at the time was a precocious drummer who'd just discovered Simon. We went to the show in Wurzburg and sat above the stage right behind the PA, and sat amazed at Simon's playing. Simon was only in his early 20's here, and he was already one of the best drummers anywhere. For me, the night was magical because it was my first of many, many concerts to come and it inspired me to study music and make it my lifelong passion. Everyone on that stage was amazing. Mike was like a Zen master the whole night, except when he picked up a drumstick and tried to crash a cymbal during one of Simon's incredible solos. Simon, looking down when Mike started his downstroke, reached up and stopped the cymbal without missing a beat. Mike turned to the audience, smiled, and spoke into the mic, "Simon Phillips". Simon's work on Crises, to this day, haunts me. I've seen Neil Peart now many, many times. I've seen drummers, and played with drummers, from all genres, and I've yet to see anyone behind the kit quite like Phillips. The only guy who comes close is Gavin Harrison (formerly of Porcupine Tree).
Have you seen the duets Simon and Gavin do. Very, very nice. :) I agree with all of the above. For me it was Toyah in 1982, also with Phil Spalding. Simon was 23.
Finally someone else who also knows of Simon's work with Toyah,The Changeling and Warrior Rock the live album are awesome. After hearing and seeing Simon playing the Christmas Eve gig for the Old Grey Whistle Test it changed my whole approach to drumming, think I was about 14years old ! Blow my mind !!! Absolute influence on me from then until now 2018

Ehm. Figuraccia la sua.
Possibly the best musician and composer of the whole pop-rock age
It's about time all Mike's concerts were remastered and made available to us mortals

questo concerto mi ha fatto cambiare il modo di ascoltare la musica. e visto che avevo 13 anni è stata una grande cosa che mi ha segnato molto
The best drummer Mike ever had. And that's saying a lot.

Simon Phillips 👍
Awesome drums ❤❤

I envy you, must say 🙂
My sister and her boyfriend went to that concert I was 12 and not allowed to go FMO and Crisis are my favorite Oldfield albums
If 1981, then Simon Phillips wasn't three, but Pierre Moerlen was with his "Gong", I think😉

Would have been better to have Maggie sing this with Barry on backing
I believe that only Annie Haslan , from Renaissansse, could sing like Jon Anderson. Sds from Brasil.
Her name is Haslam. I completely admire her Renaissance era, but never found similarities between Annie's voice and Anderson's.
🤷
Awesome. Extremely healthy, very good luck, money, prosperity, happiness and success! 🍀🏆💗
