    Incidentally, your reaction to Mad Max: Fury Road was my reaction to It Follows. Everyone told me what an amazing film it was, and when I finally sat down to watch it, I was very underwhelmed. I thought it was well made, I liked the soundtrack, and the premise was clever. But I was kind of bored during most of it. Meh, oh well. Lol

    • @KoolKeithProductions
      @KoolKeithProductions 8 лет назад +1

      +Blake Meads How could you be bored? :O That movie made me feel too uneasy to be bored. I kept looking over my goddamn shoulder every 5 mins cuz I thought someone could be slowly approaching me...and I was in my bedroom ALONE O_O

      Unpopular opinion: I felt the same about The Exorcist when I finally got around to seeing it. It was a good movie, maybe not the best horror movie, and it has definitely been dethroned as the "scariest horror movie of all time".

      +Ricardo Guanipa I don't see the problem, sure Mad Max was pretty, but story wise there wasn't that much there.

    • @ricardoguanipa8275
      @ricardoguanipa8275 8 лет назад +3

      Mad max had very simple and basic story I agree but Jurassic world plot was a chain of dumb decisions by multiple individuals in a billion dollar Facility that couldn't afford a proper security cameras....
      And the little kids fixing a car that has been a hot humid climate for 20 years
      And that assistance death scene

    • @chrisfields4092
      @chrisfields4092 8 лет назад +4

      Ricardo Guanipa I didn't say JW was perfect, but at least to me it was more fun. My biggest problem with MM was it's blatant feminist BS. Max wasn't the star, hell he barely spoke. Just remember film is subjective. I'm glad you loved it. I just didn't.

      C'com dude, how can you not love old ladies kicking ass and the director was not afraid to kill most of them, even the pro-active pregnant girl gets kill

    I know you have a deep passion for movies, which is why I assume you talked twice as much about movies you loved as apposed to movies you hate, and I love that. I love that your top ten had more obscure movies than other top tens, and I love listening you talk about movies you love. However, I would be lying if I said I didn't love listening to you bash on movies you hate. It's always hilarious, even if you love more movies than you hate. So, great list :)

    I really enjoyed Chappie and and I wasn't sure which list it would fall into, your best or worst of the year. I really liked the aesthetic of the film and the vibe. I remember when I first watched District 9, I didn't like it but over a few rewatches, it's become one of my faves. Do you think Chappie would benefit with multiple viewings? "Ex Machina" was one of the best films of the year. "It Follows" was very good, although I didn't put it on the same level as similarly abstract "Under the skin" from 2014. Loved "Fury Road" on the big screen but at the same time found it empty. My favorite film of the year was "Queen of Earth" by Alex Ross Perry, a brilliant, subtle and creepy movie about young woman's psychotic breakdown.

    I love your videos and have been subscribed for about half a year. Love to get the inside scoop on movies that I would maybe never have heard about otherwise. After I watched Chappie, I walked around with a strange glow feeling like I finally saw hope for the future of movies in general. I believe that there is a deep division in the understanding of our human condition that can be identified by those who do and don't get Chappie as a work of art. It was actually kind of refreshing to see an opinion of yours that I couldn't agree with and look forward to your future videos. If you haven't seen John Paizs' "Crime Wave", now's the time.

    Hi BFD. Fury Road was awesome and it's a bit odd that you 'connected' with San Andreas considering its plot is the same as all those Roland Emmerich disaster flicks. That aside, it's a good list including your honorable mentions (San Andreas aside). I haven't seen #10 but I intend on seeing "Spring" immediately (it's free for Prime members on Amazon--woot!). Lastly, I think "Chappie" was a special kind of bad... uniquely, weirdly, bad, so I enjoyed it. Thanks for the vid. Hope to see more!

      Yea I found that odd too, I mean to each his own, but to be underwhelmed by fury road, but to enjoy San Andreas is very odd. I hated San Andreas it's the same disaster movie we seen a thousand times and the acting and special effects were God awful. I didn't like fury road as much as others, but I for sure enjoyed it WAY more than that crap pile!

    Quick rundown of my personal list + HM's:
    1. Mad Max Fury Road.
    2. The Revenant.
    3. It Follows.
    4. Beasts of No Nation.
    5. Crimson Peak.
    6. What We Do In The Shadows.
    7. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.
    8. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
    9. Bridge of Spies.
    10. The Man From UNCLE.
    Honorable mentions: Macbeth, Chappie, The Martian, Shaun The Sheep Movie, Mr. Holmes and The Gift.
    Sucks you didn't like Mad Max. :( I will also freely admit that I enjoyed Chappie a lot more than I expected to, though also understand why people would hate it (frankly, if you don't like Die Antwoord, then don't watch it). And of course, there's a few on here I wasn't a fan of myself (I couldn't get through Bone Tomahawk and Spring while I found Kingsman and Ex Machina pretty overrated) but beggars can't be choosers, right? Anyway, solid list and here's hoping 2016 is as good last year turned out to be!

    When recommending Bone Tomahawk you totally spoiled the cannibal cave-dwellers. The fact that they are Cannibal Cave-dwellers is a big reveal and makes the movie really gruesome and great. It turns the movie from a trail movie to a western horror.

      i watched the movie a couple of times, the native guy in town told them they were so evil and cruel no one else had contacts with that tribe anymore. The fact they're cannibals too is probably surprising, wasn't surprising to me tbh. I was aware they were absolute savages and i've seen cannibal movies before, there were other things i wasn't expecting (that i won't spoil)

    I'm always amazed and confused by the movies you like and the ones you don't. there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to your taste. you like tons of shit movies, hate some great movies, but always find the good in the bad and the bad in the good. All in all, it makes your channel that much better. Even though I disagree with alot of your opinions, I respect the hell out of them because you always provide solid reasons why you feel how you feel. Keep up the great work man. • @RePete85

    'It Follows' was incredibly overrated. Basically your reaction to 'Fury Road' was how I felt about that movie. Only more so because I sincerely hated it. It had the usual ensemble of cookie cutter teenagers giving mediocre performances, the same old tired suspense tropes, and a concept, though original, that was far too obvious in it's metaphor for STD's and sexual promiscuity. It came off less as allegorical and more shoving the audience's face in it's message. Frankly the whole thing came off as an abstinence propaganda film, but one produced by an actual studio and not cinematically incompetent religious leaders.
    I get that a lot of people like it, and at first I couldn't understand why given the absurdity of it's premise and lack of anything scary happening, but after some thought I think I understand why this movie was successful. Look, it's not the worst movie I've ever seen. There are hundreds if not thousands of horror movies out there that are worse than this one. What sets this movie apart, or rather tricks the audience into thinking they're seeing something good, is the fact that it doesn't seem like a typical hollywood outing at face value. The cinematography is beautiful. I'll give it that. It looks like an art house film, and makes it seem more intelligent than it actually is. And like I said before, there's the concept. Very original, and perhaps if executed with a little more ambiguity and fewer expository characters spoon-feeding the movie's pitch, it might've worked. But it just can't help repeatedly telling the audience why they should be scared instead of just actually scaring them. Also it had a good title.
    I just didn't think it was scary. At no point did I feel a sense of dread or care about any of the characters. They didn't seem like real people or sound like they were actually talking instead of reciting dialogue. You mentioned 2012's 'Resolution'. Now THAT was a brilliant horror film in all the ways that 'It Follows' wasn't. But was that movie successful with the teenagers of America? Of course not. Because it was vague, thought-provoking, and wasn't about teenagers having sex. I was very surprised to hear you'd seen that movie and still consider 'It Follows' to be as good as you say. How can you dislike 'Fury Road' purely due to the hype surrounding it, and yet love 'It Follows' despite all it's undeserved hype from hack film critics and after school special "sex is bad" advocates?

      First: Mad Max isn't a horror film. Not to sound rude or anything but have you watched the previous Mad Max`s.
      Secondly: It follows made me scared of single exit rooms for a whole week and a half, so in my opinion i think it was pretty good in its horror element.

      You hit the nail on the head. Absolutely agree with you. I think I liked the concept of the movie more than I liked what they actually did with it. As was the case with The Purge.

    I can't tell you enough how refreshing it is to find someone else who isn't on the Mad Max: Fury Road gravy train. It's a beautifully shot film but lacks any and all substance. I guess it's just a personal thing but I'd rather watch an action film with okay visuals and a great story than a film with magnificent visuals and barely any story. I had a similar problem to a lesser degree with The Revenant. But I guess I'm in the minority when it comes to this therefore by Internet rules I am wrong.

    • @GoodBadFlicks
      @GoodBadFlicks  8 лет назад +1

      +JokerFett Believe me, I toiled over mentioning Fury Road because I knew people would be all over me about it. (I almost didn't mention it at all) However, I knew it would be the "where's Fury Road?!" comment so I wanted to address it. From a visual standpoint they did some amazing things but it just felt so empty to me.

    If I was to associate Turbo Kid with any country, it'd be Canada, no? It was directed, written, produced and stars Canadians. It was also filmed in Canada. It was a joint financial venture between Canada,US and NZ, but it seems odd to call it a NZ film.

    my biggest problem with Jurassic world is this. When the big supersoaurs is going around and the line comes "oh god, it is part.............RAPTOR" that was so freaking dumb, if they had said "part human" there could have been all kinds of cool parallels that could have been drawn even without changing anything else. Oh it killed it sibling, people kill other people a lot. Oh it's hunting for sport and leaving trails of dead, well people do that too. AND with that concept they could have done some more neat things with the dinosaur, then in the end make them say, it's part human and it would have been a better movie

    Ex Machina is another film I didn't really think was that great - it was good and enjoyable, but didn't really have the depth that other's seem to think it does; but I watched Spring just a couple of weeks ago and I loved it too. Spring really had a nice balance between horror and love without relying on either as a crutch - just a really good story.

    Thats right dude Fury road is definitely the most overrated film of 2015 If u don't count Star wars.Alot of people called it the best action film in decades and I'm sorry Mission impossible rogue nation is better.At least in that Tom cruise is the star of the film unlike Fury road where Max is a side character overshadowed by some soot faced chick that i don't give a damn about.Thats why i didn't see it in the cinemas and why i will never understand how it won so many academy awards this year.

    ...problem with The Force Awakens is that even if its part of a trilogy it SHOULD stand on its own. A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back are amazing one their own, even if you take them out of the trilogy. The Empire Strikes Back even ends on a cliffhanger but that doesn't detract from the two hours that came before. The Force Awakens is almost a remake, they played it safe, they bet on nostalgia to please fans and looks like they won. I rather see some imagination and creativity, specially when it comes to Star Wars which has such a huge universe

    The Gallows (Shaky cam galore)
    Fifty Shades of Grey (Worst Film of the Decade)

    No need to apologize for Fury Road. Any movie that basically boils down to driving off into the desert for endless miles . . . . only to at some point stop, turn around and come right back? Just pisses me off to no end.
    It's one of those movies that you see everyone around you excited for, so you just shrug and go: Yeah, ok.

    Loved the video Cecil, I disagree entirely on Chappie but 100% agree on It Follows especially that soundtrack, I still have Dreams and Nightmares about the Music.

      +ChibiFighter Thats fine, I know Chappie has some rabid fans. In 10 years the score for It Follows will be mentioned with the iconic horror scores like Halloween. So amazingly good.

    as much as i liked Star Wars 7 and the marvel movies i'm tired of movies being setups for sequels instead of movies

      The original Star Wars was as well, whatever that means to you. No Star Wars film has been designed to stand alone.

      Star Wars is a naturally progressing story, whereas Force Awakens is like "LOOK AT THIS! LOOK AT THIS! THESE THINGS YOU ALREADY LOVE AND THINGS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT!" like Rey's backstory shouldn't be shoved in our face how mysterious it is just to not be told yet, Luke and R2 show up for two seconds so we get excited to see more... Star Wars introduces everything with a nice conclusion to what we know until the sequel

      Star Wars never went "Vader has some strange past that might be connected to you, Luke!" they just didn't reveal it until Empire...

    The thing is about Episode 7 is I don't care about the lead girl or whats to come with her.Episodes 8&9 better concluded the series on a high note.Also the actress i can't stand in the least so please people stop treating her like a freaking female messiah cuz she's not.Lastly screw Rogue 1 i will not be seeing it in the theatre.

    I still need to watch Creed, my friend puts it around Rocky/Rocky II level. Also really interested in The Gift and Ex Machina. I'm like you in that Star Wars has lost it's sheen over the years (and probably not helped by a lot of D6 roleplaying, and two friends who are Star Wars FANATICS). I only saw the last bit of Chappie, but I didn't think it was too bad (and I have no love for Die Antwerp either). I'm sorry you didn't really dig Fury Road, hopefully you'll enjoy the next one(s) more.
    All in all, pretty good list Cecil!

    Now that Episodes 8 & 9 are out, do you feel they covered and expanded on the lore enough to make Episode 7 more than just a cash grab?

      +Daniel Attrell Martian was quite good but very predictable. Great performance by Matt Damon as always though.

    I consider myself a pretty big movie buff, but WHHHYYYYY do people like It Follows ?? That movie was beyond stupid. Slow paced, subpar plot, ok acting, just....dumb. How did this get such a high rating on Rotten Tomatoes ?

    • @edheldude
      @edheldude 8 лет назад

      +Mr. Porter Why is slow paced bad? It was rather suspenseful for a modern horror, and it's just as "dumb" as any other supernatural horror premise.
      Read the reviews since they usually discuss the merits of the movie.

      ***** Instead of creating a debate I'll just say this and be done with it.
      Cecil said that he didn't like Mad Max: Fury Road and I myself (like many others) enjoyed the movie. So in a sense, the way that he feels about It Follows and Mad Max is the opposite of how I feel about the same films. I REALLY tried to figure out why people liked it so much and I STILL don't get it. I've read several reviews and saw the score on Rotten Tomatoes which was the only reason why I decided to watch it. Boy was I disappointed.

    Yes I knew It Follows was number 1! It deserves it. The kind of movie that stays with you, and the soundtrack was perfect for the setting

    I really liked Chappie...though I didn't like Die Antwoord. I agree that they were out of place, but I liked how the character Chappie developed. He was reacting to his environment and spent the entire movie learning. I can say that since a lot of people were saying that Die Antwoord were basically playing themselves (like...their real personalities), I would be quite frightened of them producing children.

    • @edheldude
      @edheldude 8 лет назад

      +HaydenX real personalities = stage personas.
      I like them but they were a bit too over the top in this case. Hugh Jackman's character was worse though.
