"30 Days Of Night" is one of my favorite vampire movies of all time. Especially in how the vampires were portrayed. They were so much more creepy and scary than any vampire I've seen before or since.

I remember my wife and I received some Gold-Class cinema tickets as an anniversary gift and we turned up there without checking what was on. When I saw this movie listed in the foyer I (half-jokingly) suggested we watch it. To my surprise - she agreed! We don't get to the movies often, so watching this on a huge screen, sitting in recliners while we were served beer and snacks, with my wife next to me, was the best movie experience of my life. I guess I really got lucky when I married her!

Interview With A Vampire received a lion's share of the blame for wussifying the blood suckers as I remember with Anne Rice's take on the undead. As Norm McDonald said about the flick in a one sentence review, "Not gay enough." Also BUFFY:THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and its spin-off, ANGEL, got a fair share of kicks in the teeth as well from the "real horror fans" to boot. I actually prefer the graphic novel over the movie. On top of the of the stuff you mentioned that cut out. My favorite scene from the book, where Stella first spots the vampires through her binoculars, and they're looking right back at her with their toothy grins. Revealing them for the first time to the reader. Sent a chill through my spine. I was just irked me to no end not to see it brought to life on the big screen. Also IDW ,and Steve Niles are doing a relaunch of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT this month in a six issue limited series in case anyone is interested.

I wish we got more monstrous vampires like this. I hate the vampires that fall in love with humans thing. It's supposed to be essentially a demon in a corpse that feeds off the life force of others and if they use seduction, it's supposed to be a trap, like the light of an angler fish. It's so much better and makes them genuinely frightening.

I'm a new writer that loves fantasy. My book features werewolves and vampires, but they're nothing like twilight. The vampires aren't as scary as the ones in this movie but they're still pretty vicious. When they take down their prey, their fangs grow so long that they're cheeks actually tear when their jaws extend.

30 Days of Night was to vampire films what 28 Days Later was to zombie films, and not just the naming convention. Both represented a revitalization of their respective genres. 30 Days of Night's reach just wasn't as long or as sustained as 28 Days Later, probably due in part that the vampire genre was operating under a larger, deeper shadow from Twilight, over-exposing the vampire genre more, which the zombie genre wasn't suffering from to the same extent.

Another great video my friend! Thank you for your in depth analysis as usual. I've never fully seen 30 days of Night but I'm definitely gonna give it a full watch through sometime soon. I actually live in Alaska and it's sad that they didn't film anything up here, and to be honest I bet the film would've done much better if it had some more realistic Alaska scenery. Similar to how they did Frozen Ground with Cage and Cusack. Everybody that I know was talking about the movie and watching it to see places in Alaska. We rarely get Hollywood up here so it's a huge deal for us. Another example would be The Revenant by Alejandro González Iñárritu. I was blown away with how intense their filming process was. So if they could do it I'm sure the cast of 30 days of Night could've handled a little cold weather for a few weeks. We have a huge population up here and many of us work outdoors in the winter. They could've filmed up here. Anyhow, Thanks again for the great content as usual and keep up the good work! I'll try to give more feed back when I can. Cheers!

I went opening night with my sister and my step dad to see this and at the end was a standing ovation for the film. Pretty good film for the vampire genre. Daybreakers was another film with a unique take on vampires and did it pretty well same with Let the Right One In (2008) ,Thirst(2009), and Stakland (2011), but lately not that much. I know with Universal's Monster Cinematic Universe and how since the are saying that Dracula:Untold will not be part of it that they can maybe do something unique. Hopefully.

It's always great when you hear about projects being made as the creative team intended; there have been a few cases where executives actually saved a movie but, more often than not, the creative team's vision should be left untouched.

Its not that, its hours and hours of shooting outside, often times without the right amount of clothing. They would have suffered from exposure.

The cast of Frozen was exposed in the chair lift for hours at a time, and I'll be clear I know very well how dangerous it is. I'm only asking for a couple scenes exclusively shot in Alaska so people can get a true taste. The film would've had much more success over all and a larger following from fans due to word of mouth. I'm tired of fake snow and unrealistic scenery.

So I was at a family get together one time, i think it was a graduation party for my cousin's kid. Well my cousin's married to Sam Peckinpah's niece, who's step mom is Pamela Wallace, one of the screen writers of the movie Witness. Every time I'm at a party with her, we sit and talk about movies, so we were talking about comics and comic book movies (this was kind of towards the beginning of the comic book movie boom, and I had brought up Steve Niles and 30 Days of Night. I told her about the issues I had with the movie (the pacing was odd to me) and she told me it was one of her favorite horror films of that year and that she absolutely loved it. It was kind of funny hearing someone who won an oscar for screenwriting talk about how much she loved a movie that got panned by a lot of critics.

Definitely the most underrated vampire film of it's time. The movie inspired me to read the comics and dig deeper into the mythology. I was disappointed that they left certain elements out but overall very satisfied with how it turned out. The visual style is what I loved the most especially the color style of the film. I found the film vampires to look creepier than the comic vampires which is a first. Great film especially if you feel jaded by the current state of vampire stories in hollywood these days.

Love this movie! I never read the books, but as soon as I saw Ben Foster's character I knew it was going to be bad ass. I wish I had more detail about his character, though I don't think the movie really provided an opportunity for that (nor did it really need to).
I also understand that Foster did a ton of work in getting a specific type of on of our Louisiana accents perfected, and I think he nailed it.
...and Marlow? Holy hell. I can't think of an alpha vampire performance that I enjoyed as much as Huston's. Incredibly well crafted.
