Kaze and Kumo do survive the anime ending because they're Unlimited and can only be killed by another one (this is why Chaos originally tried to make them kill each other). But for example Kupo the moogle and Lou really do die. *SPOILER END*

The story of this FF is pretty good,it's a good thing that the main characters (Yu and his sister) isn't a fighter,like most of the FF.But they are vital to the plot.Great ending as well,it's really unique,the sacrifice of three friends for the better tommorow..not something you usually see in Final Fantasy.This is nothing short of epic-ness...well...its really a shame that I didn't know about this anime until like a couple of hours ago.
Why don't square-enix makes a game out of this story instead of keeping repeating FF7 related stories? It will be a little bit new style in game play and different story type (in a way). don't you think?
I happen to know that ORIGINALLY this was not the end of the story and Kaze actually survives and even releasese the summon of Anima Later in the story. The company that made this just ran out of money. But its rumored that if you can find the Disc Box Set the rest is included with it.......

It continues in a manga book...but since the show lost it's budget it had to cancel and so this is how the anime series ends...There are also other continuations, but they are not translated into English... :/
good anime.. i guess, the ending was intended for the people to aim for more. whether they continued doing the episodes or not, you guys, we, the audience aimed for more, right? ^^
i was very disappointed with this ending it was to open and depressing i was very upset that Lou died (The english translation) and that makenshi got stabbed (That sucked) and then kaze went boom -_- geez whf they must have really hated those characters. (The three people i honestly hoped WOULDN'T die and the did just that.) XP Grrrrrr i hated that.
final hallway 13 is a piece of shit, FF died after 9 for me, after that the plot got worse whit every title, it is losing its identity, FF13 had no free world, no secrets, even the leveling system is a hallway, the only FF thing it got is turn based combat, i got it on 360 and after the first disk i sold it, i remember how cool were the chocobo races in FF7, and now i remember how they fuck that up in 13-2.
