    I sent this to my dad. He was nav in RF-4C in Vietnam and a techie. He has the highest number of hours flying night recce missions of the entire war. He would snap up night missions from crews that typically didn't want them. He felt safer at night flying down in the valleys of the route packs. Used the radar in modes that were available but which the Air Force never trained, and other crews never used. Something about circular polarization, for instance, allowed him to see through the rain better. But only he used it. The RF had TFR so not the same as the E, but he came out of ADC (F-89D/H/J, F-101B) and was able to use the RF's radar for air-to-air to some degree. He retired O-6 after flying F-111A at Takhli and F's at Mt. Home. He loved his job; a true Scope Wizard. Great work on the model! Even I could see the scope follows the terrain realistically. This has got to be the best radar simulation ever to demonstrate all those problems which other radars strife to filter. Zero Doppler, notching, jamming and burn through range? It’s all right there

    • @slowhornet4802
      @slowhornet4802 8 месяцев назад +1

      just wondering what this means in terms of balance: modules with simplified radars might have an advantage. AI aircraft probably even more than human players.
      E.g. the Heatblur F-4 radar might not pick up a Stealth aircraft while a simplified FC3 F-5 might do.

    • @Tberror
      @Tberror 8 месяцев назад +6

      @@slowhornet4802 well, competitive DCS will have custom balancing rules. Otherwise: the same argument could be made for modern vs old jets - the sim is not fair at all, it does not try to be, nor should it.

    • @christerjackson9589
      @christerjackson9589 8 месяцев назад

      @@slowhornet4802 That has been a thing for ages, there is also no FC3 F-5? The F-5E's radar isn't all that good and has little use in a BVR engagement seeing it only has seekers.

    • @slowhornet4802
      @slowhornet4802 7 месяцев назад

      @@Tberror My point is: it is a difference if a fight is unfair because the same system is modelled differently or because there is actually a difference in real life.
      With same system I do not mean e.g. the exact same radar, rather than radar physics being modelled differently. E.g. a FC3 level F-4 would probably have a lot of advantages over a HB F-4: it would be much more HOTAS, and if on top the radar modelling is simplified it might have better radar detection capabilities than the HB version.
      Or reacting completely different against jamming.
      I think this is a fundamental problem which will not be solved in DCS, but it is also something where DCS lacks gameplay wise. E.g. aircraft like the Tornado or F-111 are using TFR. In case of the F-111 they ran into issues when one aircraft received returns from another F-111. Or when even SAM radar interfered with the TFR (happened when F-111 flew into Libya.).
      With a proper and harmonized radar sim across all modules this might even happen without any scripting. But with the current implementation it will not.

    Wow, dude - this is awesome.
    One of the things I tend to struggle with when using radars in general is how to scale the display to the outside world, I know on the display the target is say 10 miles away, but I don't really know how far 10 miles is in terms of the world outside the cockpit.
    Being able to see the ground on the display, despite being annoying for getting a lock, is actually really good for gauging where in the sky to look for visual target acquisition, I can't wait to wrap my head around this in a multiplayer environment - also intrigued by how well Jester will be able to manipulate everything your human WSO is doing here and how he'll compare to a real player WSO of various skill levels.

    • @Enigma89
      @Enigma89  8 месяцев назад +18

      They added this button called Jester Context. It's a button you can press and it basically queues Jester to do something and it seems to work well so far. So if he is hovering over a contact, you can press that button and he will lock it.
      Excited to see how it goes in multiplayer

    17:00 The reason why urban areas are more reflective and water, less reflective (on average) is due to the presence (or lack thereof in the case of water bodies) of vertical surfaces. You will see some clutter from the ocean due to surface waves, but it tends to be minimal unless you’re flying in a storm.
    Radar gets stronger returns from surfaces that are perpendicular to line-of-sight compared to parallel surfaces (like the surface of a lake).

    • @JNelson_
      @JNelson_ 8 месяцев назад +3

    I have a radar question. When im airborne, I jump back to the WSO seat and set the radar up how I want it; usually a 25 mile PPI if I'm just navigating through terrain. But whenever I jump back to the pikot seat, after about 2-3 seconds the pilots display sqitches back to a 50 mile B scope. It shows the 25 mile PPI for a second or two, then it switches to 50 mile B scope. Why does it do that? What am i missing? Is there some setting somewhere that makes that a default display for the pilot? The only time I can get it to change is if I go to a heat missile auto acq. Then it will go down to 5 miles. Another thing is, there are Jester commands to change the radar mode and scan size, but not the range? I cant ask Jester to change the range??? Whats up with that?
    So anyway, why does my radar revert back to 50 mile B scope every time i jump back in the pulot seat?😊

      without weapons, fuel tanks, low fuel, on a good day yes it can be push 2.3 if your lucky but more like 2.1 to be honest. However it's still very fast compare to most aircraft. Like the F-18 hornet is only mach 1.8 but honestly more like 1.6. So the F-4 will be fast since the 3rd gens was about speed to catch bombers but we will see how it handles in game.

    Those smuges remind me of the ultrasound of my daughter when my wife was 5 months pregnant with her 35 years ago.
    I could not tell her legs from her head.
    Thankfully, she came out healthy and grew to be a very beautiful young lady.
    But on the ultrasound she looked like a piece of chewed up bubble gum. 😂

    So basically never going to find anyone in a live multilayer environment, especially in a fireball, which is easy to do in MIG 21. I wish the developer touched upon IFF and ground clutter filter, just like Low Alt Filter in MIG 21. I really don't want to be staring at the radar most of the time and trying to interpret and fiddle with it too much. Then, the experience becomes similar to looking at the MFD in F-16. It's easy to glance at the radar in MIG 21 or Mirage F1 without fiddling too much and then continue to scan the area out of the canopy with your eyes. I hope I am wrong , but this is the impression I get .

    TBH the F-4 radar looks better to understand and operate than the F-14, while you need to DJ the controls to get a good picture it is more simpler to operate.

      totally surprised to be able to push a steady (for dcs) 235 fps to my oled panel (5800x3d with 4070 at 1600*900 gamer settings).
