Imagine trying to do an impersonation of one of the greatest stand up comics of all time in front of one of the greatest songwriter/philosopher of all time. Hader has nerves of steel.
The fact that James Quall is dying so much over Hader's impersonation of him tells me that he probably has a lot more self awareness than people give him credit for.

Something about seeing Tim and Eric break is really satisfying, like they come across as so weird, that I almost feel like they don't know how to laugh? Does that even make sense lol.
It's even better to see David and James break. It's easy to assume the actors brought in mainly because of their own strange mannerisms aren't getting the full satisfaction of the joke, but they clearly had a great time shooting.
It's because for the longest time they stayed in character even when promoting the show so you never knew when they were being serious. In fact I would say I only ever really learnt anything about Tim after on cinema and then into office hours. Before that I would have assumed every thing he said was a bit.
The livestream thing they did in January (I didn't catch it cause it was on this weird pay for a limited showing website shit but someone put a compilation up on youtube) was surreal because they were completely out of character and reacting genuinely, and they otherwise seem like utterly normal dudes, they were cracking up at it and even calling certain sketches so weird and psychotic despite having made them themselves

I love how many people in the comments here seem mystified that they actually break and stuff, but there's this thing that has to be true for any of these comedy shows to exist: people writing and creating it have to think it's funny in order for them to make it a comedy show. I feel the same way when I see between two ferns bloopers and they're laughing. It's like a relief that it is just a joke but also kind of a shock and he's not actually making people feel like s*** and them calling them fat to his face all the time.
