I've seen all these bands in concert, the Scorpions are damn near Metal, the only song that I could bang my head to at Whitesnake was In The Still Of The Night. Although I wish they would have played Slow And Easy. Leppard just doesn't have too many fast songs in their catalog really. Scorpions out rock both bands!
They all good listened to them all since middle school in early 90s now 40 still love heavy metal my two yr old likes it too
Def Leppard was near heavy metal in the High ‘n Dry album era
You haven't checked Def Leppard out properly if you think they don't have enough fast songs. The entire High N Dry album, Comin' Under Fire, Die Hard, Stagefright, Foolin' from Pyromania. Gods of War, Run Riot from Hysteria are all very hard and fast.
Edit:And there's still MANY more and if I try to mention them all here, youtube might have to implement a word limit for replies in the next update.

Leppard is the winner for me, hands down. They had one of the most unique sounds of the 80's, thanks to Mutt Lange pushing them to find "that sound". The riffs on their first 4 albums are unmistakable. "On Through the Night", "High N Dry", "Pyromania" and "Hysteria" are some of the best albums of the 80's, if not ever.

Scorpions have the best Riffs consistently as long as they have been a band,Def Leppard had better Riffs with Collen,Clark and Willis on their first 3 Albums and mellowed out with Hysteria and the albums after that, White snake had a revolving door of great guitar players like Vai, Sykes,and Vandenberg,But I gotta give it to the Shenker brothers and Jabs those boys can shred
Most riffs on pyro were just pete and steve
As much as I like the Hysteria album, Def Leppard lost a lot of their fire when they ditched Pete.

You really should've picked Gods of War by Def Lep - an amazing riff-duo by The Terror Twins - and Sands of Time from WS's latest album, I think it would ethnicaly harmonise with Sails of Charon.

I've seen Scorpions and Whitesnake live. Bands like these gives 200% on concerts and though they are pretty.. old they still rock like never before. Somehow young rock bands don't get it how is the proper way to rock.
Anyway, I really like that some of these riffs aren't played in the original way, this gives something special to this video.

All these people put Steve Clark on a high horse. He's wasn't even that good. Vivian is twice the musician. Truth be told, better than Phil.
Bandit Darval Yes technically speaking Vivian is a better player but has written none of Def Leppard’s hits. Clark was behind most of Def Leppards great riffs
Bud, that is correct, but I've heard that Vivian has tried to have some input. Joe & Phil will have none of it. To them, Vivian is just a hired musician. Seems like kind of a waste, but sometimes you go where the $ takes you. Although, his band Last In Line pulls off the old Dio stuff pretty well.

Weird, but learning to play "Still of the Night" taught me how to speed pick for playing thrash, black metal and neo-classical leads back when I was a teen in the late 1980s. I didn't know what the hell an e-bow was, so had to fake Sykes' e-bow parts in the song by learning how to speed pick my rhythms. 🤣 Thanks, Sykes! 🤘🏻

I know that some bands line ups change over time...But I really like the pre 1979 Scorpions stuff with Uli Jon Roth and Michael Schekner (I know MC was in UFO and that's another great band pre 1979) There were a lot of great bands with great riffs

By the way, speaking as a fan of rock, because if we’re talking about general public it would be Def Leppard buy a mile, but Whitesnake has nowhere near the catalog of iconic guitar riffs that the Scorpions and Def Leppard do. Just takes a couple of licks on their songs and you instantly know it.

Okay, I agree largely with that assessment, but when I saw Scorpions, Megadeth was the opening act, so I think they played a more harder catalog at that time. I saw Whitesnake by themselves and except for Still Of The Night, the last song it was pretty tame. I would have liked to have seen Def Leppard before the drummer lost his arm. I believe that they might have been the most hardest of the 3 at that time period.

Scorpions and whitesnake are monsters of hard rock, with a career that started in the 70s, Def Leppard a very good band of the late 80s.
Leppard started in the late 70s. You should check out some off that stuff

I'd hate to choose but, for consistency, I'd edge Scorpions. Seen all of these bands but Scorps were always a pretty good night out and delivered at open air events. Even better on those occasions Michael Schenker played too. Great guitarist!

Scorpions have the best riffs which consist of drive and beatiful melodies. Whitesnake and Def Leppard are cool bands too but Scorpions is the best of the best. Also they have the best logo.
