    Also; Odyssey is the PERFECT opportunity to introduce dropship mechanics into some of the less-used ships! Imagine a unique passenger cabin for specific ships that allow rapid deployment of players or carrying NPC soldiers into battle with you. Imagine turning the Federal Dropship into an ACTUAL DROPSHIP and giving everyone a reason to have one. Imagine a Keelback being used like an armored troop transport.

      tbh you should be able to log off while in a taxi and the taxi stays in the instance. Then when you log on, you're either at the destination, or just further along. Prices should go up exponentially for long distances to prevent people just afking their way across the galaxy though (eg, 30ish million to head out to colonia).

    I completely agree with everything you said. I thought it was just me. 50 failed missions 3 successful. Switching weapons and running out of ammo while their shields regenerate... Ugh. Lol

      @@felipejara4758 With some of the turrets you can cut into the plate on the back and overload them. For the anti-ship ones I'm guessing you'd have to power down the settlement.

    For CMDRs new to the Alpha, the best missions to start with are Transportation missions. You taxi out to an outpost, use the provided key code to open a storage box (terminals in the outpost can be used to way point the box you need and terminals are marked on the radar), grab the item, and return to the station. Payouts are in the mid to high 80ks, so 3 or 4 of them gets you a Maverick suit and a rifle.

      You can stack many of these and planet-hop from one to the next in the shuttle, then turn them all in at the end.
      And stick to planets orbiting the 'A' star.

      Good tip....providing you actually get the key code. There has been instances where I’ve received a mission update on landing and the container number and key codes are nowhere to be found. I checked every data point , mission brief, in my transactions. If this happens, I simply scavenge even the stolen illegal stuff till my pockets are full and go sell to the barman at any outpost or station .

    There are a number of simple solutions to the insane travel times that Apex (and frankly flying your own ship) imposes on you in these large multi-star systems:
    1) Enable hyper jumping between stars in multi-star systems. If the hyper drive can jump from star system to star system, it should also be able to jump between sub-star systems. This would significantly cut down on travel times as the biggest time sink is the inter star travel in those systems. It could even add a gameplay element where you as the pilot can decide whether to take the short cut (and face possible pirates at the emergence points near the stars) or take the long way as we are forced to do now. Could make for some interesting smuggling gameplay as pirates would have to decide whether to stalk the emergence points or roam the depths of interplanetary space.
    2) Raise the maximum achievable compression rate for supercruise. So raise it significantly from 2000c to something much more useful in these large systems. Say 5000c or 10000c. That would reduce the travel times to these far flung sub-star systems drastically and avoid people from having to wait 20 minutes or more to finally start the mission they were actually trying to play.
    3) increase the acceleration factor of supercruise. Currently the main issue with long travel times for normal multi-star systems (not Alpha Centauri) is that it takes so much time to accelerate to the maximum 2000c factor. 150000 ls at 2000c would only take 75 seconds, it's the time to accelerate to (and decelerate from) these max factors that adds significantly to the travel time. Raise the acceleration factor significantly and those long travel times are reduced to something more endurable.
    Personally I like options 1 and 2 the best, while I think option 2 and 3 are the easiest to implement. But regardless, something needs to be done about this as the current situation has become unmanageble. When it is possible to travel 500 to 1000 light years in the same time as it takes to travel 150000 ls, then you have a balance issue regarding travel mechanics. There is a reason why people use two hyper jumps to return to the entry point of a star system when they have to fly back from one of those subsidiary star systems i.s.o using supercruise. That alone should tell you there is a problem with the travel systems.

    Something I see people saying alot is the "paper armor" bit. My thoughts are simply we don't have the combat suit yet. And hopefully it will be a significant boost to survivability when we do.

    I dont really get the hate towards the long taxi rides, It shouldnt take any more or less time than if you were using your own ship. Maybe the system choice seems poor with over 100k ls between certain points but that might be the point, they have to stress test and get feedback on issues like this.

    All I'll say with regards to the Apex taxi, is that if they keep their 10 minute travel times, they NEED to give us something to do while we wait. Explore a passenger cabin, minigames, anything

    My weapon load out: TK Eclipse SMG + KARMA P-15 Pistol.
    My attacking strategy which almost never fails: Shred the shields with smg, while the person is stunned by shields breaking, they will recover in the same amount of time to switch weapons. Switch to kinetic pistol while they are stunned, and lay into them. All will hiding on a roof they can't figure out how to jump onto. Rinse and repeat, juggle shields on and off if needed to conserve power, and rush to an ammo crate when either one of your weapons run out of ammo. I killed a total of 36 guards and scientists combined on my last mission with this strategy in mind, using the energy link overload mode as a glorified lethal stun gun so I can stealth my way when needed. I then proceeded to have my mission bug out, and 10 scavengers spawned. I killed them all too, with the same tactic.

    Energy link overload mode 1 shots anyone no matter armor as long as they have shields down. If the shields are online? Lay in with the laser SMG, and go find a rooftop. It's a cheap method, but the only effective one. Hope this helps with your combat missions.

      Alternatively if the npc's are walking at you 1 at a time, you can enter a Habitation building, take a sharp right into the little nook, and just kill then one at a time as they walk in. of course, plasma shotguns and grenades kind of defeat the strategy fairly quickly.

    Agree with you completely, there's some compelling gameplay that will shine if they can work out those problems. I keep going back too, cleared one of those "scavenger" raid missions last night with another player that was there. We has one NPC left at the end hiding on the outskirts, ran out of power then air just as the taxi arrived !

    I think with some balancing, some fleshing out of the taxi service, and the ability to pilot in your own ships/SRVs, this is gonna get a whole lot better. I'm also really curious how the dropship taxi service for combat zones is going to work.

    they made it way too hard for an alpha and then to spend half your time in a taxi ride is super frustrating. Sometimes I love the game and I'm really excited. Other times I'm depressed and I give up. I keep coming back though. I hope they fix the travel times for the next phase.

      I try to find mission's on the same planet or moon. There's 3 or more settlements or bases on the same body. Just don't die.

    For combat, this is simple if boring...only take missions to eliminate scavengers on level 0 threat. There will only be like 6 or 7 of them, you can pick them off with a little care, and you get to actually get the feel of combat.

      thats not the only issue, my first mission never told me i was gonna even encounter hostiles, it said "go repair" level 0 threat, went in and got executed on the spot. wasnt till the transport missions got added and i could actually do something

    Love your videos man! FYI, I witnessed in horror as an entire military base obliterated a poor soul as his taxi took off, it was quite hilarious. It almost happened to me once, they got my ships health down to 40% while I sat there helpless. I think what saved me was the base was empty and I disabled a couple of their automated turrets before I left. They made quick work of that other guy though.

    @The Pilot To answer your question if your shuttle can be destroyed or not- it can be and very easily lol.
    I've died twice by calling my shuttle near an enemy base only to have an anaconda blow me up while I'm trying to go into supercruise. There is nothing you can do about it if it happens.

      I was undertaking a covert mission last night and I got caught nicking something. Triggered alarms, tried to shoot my way out, ended up cowering amongst a bunch of crates in the darkness while a skimmer hovered overhead and half a dozen soldiers closed in on me from every direction. I've never felt so helpless, and I wanted a key to surrender.
      Instead they executed me.

      The ones in mission board still look like ass of Satan. I think it might be due to weird poses and lighting used to generate these photos more than just bad NPC generator. Or the NPCs on stations were hand-made/hand-picked.

    FDev has said that at start interdiction of APEX NPCs by players will not be possible, but they are thinking about adding it later on.

    My strategy which allowed me to wipe a (skimmerless) base is to do a couple safe missions, take the boom boom launcher, the laser smg sidearm, a couple batteries, health kits and a dome shield generator grenade. Then abuse the low g to get to the high ground and fight from there. Lower their shields then blast them

    Regarding the Apex taxi service. They have said it will only shuttle you between 'inhabited space'. This could easily mean the bubble, rather than any system with a carrier. I think it works fine as it is at the moment - the travel distances are long in the Alpha, but people are only complaining about it because we can't fly our own ships.

    i can't even load the textures right now ... everything lagges and drags ... and 15 minutes waiting for nothing ... getting out of taxi, getting shot at. rinse and repeat

    2:48 Shuttles can be destroyed. I died because a settlement opened fire on my shuttle as we were taking off despite the fact I was clean, had no illicit cargo, and had just completed a legal mission.
    Despite this, and other bugs, and the fact that I've had to turn the graphics down as far as they can possibly go, I am loving Odyssey. It's like the joy of playing the game for the first time all over again. This was the first time I ever preordered a game and I have zero regrets.

    I died alot, and was frustrated a lot, but now that I know what I'm doing, I'm honestly afraid combat will be too easy once we get our combat suits.

    If you get a settlement hostile, you can just run away into the weeds and then call an Apex. It will land near you, not at the settlement.
    I did this once and the settlement weapons got the Apex's shields down and hull to 75% before we got away.
    Also, you do know about the silent take-down by zapping the guards with the charging tool, right?

      @@dmain6735 I was trapped in a power plant after a 'restore power' mission. Two soldiers came in, one shot at me from the doorway while the other flanked me by coming up the stairs to my right. I had no chance.

    Why should the taxi ride be any different from flying your own ship? It wouldn make any sense at all. Making it faster would give players an unfair advantage. Don't touch it FDev!

      @@blindazabat9527 yeah, they only fly in the blue 70% speed. I'd like to see the taxi service run at 100% and not be affected by gravity wells as much or know how to avoid them. Maybe a bit faster acceleration to ballance not having a ship with you.

    My proposal to fix the taxi times: Introduce a new engineering option - Supercruise acceleration/speed engineering upgrade for the FSD which would at the top end reduce supercruise time even say 2-4x. It might even be a viable alternative to the ubiquitous FSD for some scenarios for some people. Then throw this grade 5 on all the taxis. The universe gets to keep its internal consistency, taxis become less infuriating and some people might even have a good time with the upgrade. Win win win.

    I found a great way to use the rocket launcher as a stealth weapon. Just sneak behind an npc and shoot him, which is instakill. Then, run away from the settlement to reset the others, or, better, if the planet has low gravity, jump on top of the power core building and move just enough to be out of sight. The npcs don't have a pathway to the roof, will wonder for a bit, and then will continue patrolling, turning off their shields too. Sneak again and repeat the process.
    Also, something curious. You can actually fly in an anaconda and disembark it on foot and you can truly see the size of of it, its amazing! A tutorial of how to do this was given by the small youtuber Danny Mancheno. It is worth spending the time!

    Okay so I would make the shuttles invoulnerable, but only available from a spacestation to a planetary stastion. I would also make the time used in the loading screen exactly as long as a skilled player would need to dock manually or with landing computer. Taxi is a nice thing... insider a certain radius. If you order a taxi, it will be one from your city, not from two cities away. Basically if you have a Taxi in this game either cap it at 5.000 Ls, or cap them to one system only + taxi only goes from and to dockable stations. You can use it in order to get from one station in a system to anotherone, but you can't cargo lift or asteroid mine etc. I think that this is okay.

    I’ve logged about twenty hours and I agree with everything your saying. Four missions completed is my score and one of those I couldn’t hand in. I got in a settlement and when I went back it wouldn’t let me hand it in. The combat is frustrating and finding a mission you can do that’s actually a threat level 0 is a game of pure luck. May times I’ve turned off the game and gone off to walk the dog. Just to ease the frustrations.
    But, but I keep going back in. There is something in this that scratches an itch I didn’t know I had in Elite. I want to get out of my ship. I want to land at a settlement and just wander around it. Take some mission for them. I need to land on a world and drive around in a SRV, just to see what’s there. To peek in every locker.

    Sounds like the easiest Taxi solution would be to limit ist to 1 to 2 jumps with either high prices or a small time delay

    The taxis have been said to be limited by jump range, so probably just one jump. If the long range shittles are also adders, and D-rated everything except FSD, no weapons, no passenger cabin as you sit in the cockpit, their jump range is between 19 and 25 ly with a full fuel tank and all cargo racks, not sure if you can bring cargo on a shuttle and if so how much. Most likely no cargo except carry-on, sp 25 ly is a round figure that makes them useful in the bubbles.
    The taxi service is one of those features that probably should have been killed in the storyboard, even if it gave us automatic landings on planets.
    The long supercruises are bad enough in my own ship, so I rarely go beyong 10 kls in supercruise. Sitting all that time, and more, in a taxi? I will keep flying myself, thank you. "Myself" as in checking the full speed super cruise assist until it reaches the 6-7 second mark where I drop throttle to 75%, but still.
    That said, everything else is either gorgeous, lovely, great or fixable.
    The supersoldiers? Tweakable.
    The no settlement is ever empty? Fixable
    The lack of information from quest givers? Fixable
    The bugs in scripting? Fixed at least daily, with new bugs, that are fixed, and eventually they will be good enough for release, and in another few months the bugs will be rare.
    Just going on what I have seen these few days, and how slick the base game was when I returned to it in June last year.

      All the weapons in the alpha are basic, unmodded types. It's like taking on a Dangerous Anaconda in a D-rated Sidewinder.

    "There's a lot of potential here" - Elite Dangerous, both post and pre Odyssey, in a nutshell. And yeah, despite rightfully giving it a hard time, it's still #1 in my list of games played on Steam. For good reason. I'm still not in love with Odyssey, if for no other reason than I feel like a noob in a Sidewinder again because I haven't engineered and leveled up anything despite having all 3 suits, while my Anaconda is engineered and can hang in a CZ without issue, and the payouts to match mean piddly little delivery missions just don't pay anything worth my time by comparison, but all that stuff I loved to do from Horizons is still there so I continue to play and enjoy it, bugs and questionable decisions by devs and all.

    Can confirm, shuttles CAN be destroyed. May have powered up a settlement and didn't power down the turrets.

    A FPS will require balancing. It could also be we don't have the combat suits. Maybe working the way it should. At the moment everything is up for ajustment.

    Yup I agree with a lot of this. I'm so immersed in the game. Being able to walk around stations and ships, it's glorious. I've been stuck here, only stopping for school 😂 But the combat, bruh it's bad, really really bad, and needs to be fixed now.

    Did 6 missions so far, the first 2 failed while the last 4 made me rich and got me all weapons and the Mav-Suit.
    And all the buzz about Apex Taxi is obsulete, EVERYBODY, owns at least a Sidewinder, and the Taxi-Service, when released will barely be used.

    WHY DOES it take 2 direct hits with the RPG to take down an npc with no shields? and if they have shields, it takes 2 to get them down, and while you are reloading, the shields come back up again. the most effective solo loadout I found so far (and probably the most fun) is a laser pistol and RPG but you still have to dump an entire battery into an enemy before their sheilds drop, then hit them with 2 rockets. Now what? you have to reload, which with the RPG takes forever. Just no. And why is the pistol a burst - Yamiks live stream got that right, there is no reason for it to be burst fire. it essentially means that you only have 6 shots rather than 18 because of the 3 in each burst you hit about 1.
    My recommendations
    - Laser weapons should draw power directly from the suit, maybe 2 - 4 shots for a percentage point
    - Half the enemy shields - They can kill me with one shot from a plasma shotgun and it takes 4 hits for my shields to drop, yet it seems their shields require about 8 laser bolts - the thing that is effective against them
    - More guns - I want a sniper that I can take them out long-range from, maybe a railgun that can one-shot if they don't have shields and are hit in the head. I want access to the plasma shotgun the NPCs seem to have

    3 attemps before i got my first mission don.
    Combat is fine, so far its not difficult enough, your suit can tank a ton of damage, wish I knew a way to find ammo faster.
    Do wish the action wheel was faster
    Btw keybinding was all ready and don when I installed it, so I guess frontier fixed it

    So how oome the planets have nothing like the atmosphere in the trailer planet? Im kinda pissed about that. None of the planets I've seen thus far from youtubers have any noticeable atmosphere. Looks the exact same as Horizons except maybe some more ground detail.

    @pilot I love the fact that it's difficult and I hope they keep it that way, and the mav suit is in reach with only two missions...... Just don't get greedy and take on the big payouts go for the small missions in the terminals and your good...... That's how I did it. I absolutely love what they have done so far

      all you have to do to get keybinds is select a preset in the controls options, the reason we started without them is because we're on a custom preset from normal elite which is a bit stupid yeah, but that one has no on foot keybinds so none transferred. but if you select keyboard and mouse everything is mapped fine
