Wow. My hand is tired from taking notes! This part beautifully dovetailed with what I have been reading and praying about this weekend. “Doing things our own way = death. Doing things based on the abundant wisdom and knowledge God has offered and given to us leads to abundant life. I knew this in the back of my brain, but this picture of the ever-present tree makes it so clear. I’ll be 65 on Friday. God keeps teaching me wonderful things.
My comprehension of why God accepted Abel's offering and rejected Cain's is not merely because one's was carnivore and the other's vegetarian but because He sees what's in the heart of man and what He saw in Cain's heart was bitterness and anger towards his brother. It's not coincidence that in another place it says that " if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift". Thank You for your work.
I think you're looking at that story was hindsight vision. Yes we now know from later readings in the Bible that God does know what's in man's heart. But I'm not sure it is clear if you read Genesis from the beginning the God knew what was in Cain's heart as the two first Sons were bringing him their gifts. Of course you cannot read the Bible that way and strictly chronological manner. So I have to retract and actually agree with you.
Im loving this conversation. John asks all the questions i myself have, and Tim answers in a way that helps me understand. This is possibly your best podcast series yet
Thank you for the depth on Cain and Able. You’ve covered this before, but I still struggle with this. This week, in fact, I have really felt like Jon that Cain got screwed. And I feel like Cain. I know the option is similar in that God comes and says that I have to be careful for the enemy crouches at my door. But I still feel like Cain got ripped off. It’s not like he did NOT bring a sacrifice. Still struggle with this.
I was struck with the idea that God has a goody bag for everyone. Each goody bag is perfect for its intended recipient. But someone else's goody bag may be bigger or smaller than yours. It may hold huge things or tiny precious things. Each is perfect for its intended recipient. Grabbing someone else's goody bag, you get something you thought you wanted, that seemed better than yours, but end up with something that is useless or even harmful to you and a fellow party goer mad at you. Anyway, trust that the Gracious Host, has given you the most perfect, specifically crafted personal gift possible.
Do you guys intend on doing a follow-up to the revisits? Maybe talked about difference in perspective since originally recording these or even just expand upon the knowledge given 😁 could be super cool!
Is Jesus the “special person” at God’s party, like the son that the vineyard owner sent to get things back on track.(you know, the one they killed?) because, wow. The Bible is one great big collection of telling this story over and over throughout history.
I wonder if God meant for the tree of good and evil or God's Wisdom, God meant for us to partake in it at God's time. That God would first teach us good and evil. Instead Adam and Eve took that Wisdom for themselves. In the metephor of the special appetizer tray in the middle. You can't eat from it until you are ready.
Cain already hated Abel before giving any thank offerings. It seems his mother saw Cain as the chosen seed who would crush the head of the Serpent. Eve saw Abel as nothing. How can I say this? Examine the meaning of their names.
Breath or meadow or herdsman or source of God vs acquired or craftsman or spearer? I’m not understanding completely, if anything Abel’s name seems to have more honor

God is the best host.
Jesus lives! ♥️ and is Yahweh God 🙏🏻 Christ ✝️ and King 👑

This is already setting up to be an amazing series. Thank you so much❤ loved this episode

It really helped me that you guys framed the story as a party. It makes a HUGE difference to see it that way! Thanks, Tim and Jon!😊

You know. This is why I need to listen to only to The Bible project and read scriptures. I totally misquoted something earlier.

It's the wedding cake!! It's in a special place and you can't touch it yet.
