@@cooltiger229 Schools are there to educate so their goal is to impart knowledge. Religion is a belief system, not a set of facts. It has no place in the school system. People can pray at home and in their religious building.
Freedom of religion or belief: why it matters
The right to adopt a religion or belief, to practise it without hindrance, to share your faith and to change your religion or beliefs are all key freedoms that everyone should be able to enjoy. The UK government is committed to defending freedom of religion or belief (FoRB) for all and promoting respect between different religious and non-religious communities.
Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) is a human right which has been guaranteed under international law within the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) since 1966. Article 18 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, states that ‘everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion’.
What FoRB is
FoRB is not just the freedom to hold personal thoughts and convictions, but also being able to express them individually or with others, publicly or in private. It includes the freedom to:
- subscribe to different schools of thought within a religion
- change one’s religion or beliefs, including to leave or abandon religions
- hold non-religious beliefs
No-one should experience discrimination for exercising their right to freedom of religion or belief. This right prohibits the use of coercion to make someone hold or change their religion or belief. It also protects a person from being required to state an affiliation with any particular religion or belief.
As with all human rights, FoRB belongs to people, whether alone or as members of a group, and not to the religion or belief itself. This means that it does not protect religions, or religious figures, from criticism.
The link to other human rights
Where FoRB is under attack, often other basic rights are threatened too.
This can involve denials of freedom of expression, detention without trial, impunity for attacks on property and people, banning religious assemblies and unlawful killing.
Many conflicts have their roots in, or are made worse by, religious differences. Respect between religious groups can make it harder for extremism to take root.
Discrimination on the basis of religion or belief damages societies and holds back economies. Countries cannot fully develop while they oppress members of minority groups. Communities are stronger when they are fully inclusive.
www.gov.uk/guidance/freedom-of-religion-or-belief-understanding-this-human-right
Your right to freedom of religion and belief
In the UK, human rights are protected by the Human Rights Act 1998. The Act gives effect to the human rights set out in the European Convention on Human Rights.
Article 9 - the right to freedom of religion and belief is one of the rights protected by the Human Rights Act.
Read this page to find out more about what the right to freedom of religion and belief means under the Human Rights Act
What are your rights under article 9?
The right to hold beliefs
Article 9 protects your right to hold both religious and non-religious beliefs. This is an absolute right which means it can’t be interfered with by the state. Article 9 includes the right to choose or change your religion or beliefs. It also means you can't be forced to have a particular religion.
The right to manifest your beliefs
Article 9 also protects your right to manifest your beliefs - for example, your right to wear religious clothing, the right to talk about your beliefs or take part in religious worship. The right to manifest your beliefs is qualified. This means it can be interfered with in certain situations - for example, to protect the rights of others.
Examples of article 9 breaches
Examples of where article 9 may be relevant include:
the right to wear religious specific uniforms in school
the right to wear religious clothing at work or in public places like the courts
time off work or school for religious holidays.
Example
You’ve been told by your employer
that you can't wear a necklace with a cross at work as it's not allowed under the uniform policy.
This could be a breach of your right to manifest your religion under article 9. However, the right to manifest your religion is a qualified right so your employer might be able to justify interfering with your right. But they would have to show they have a very good reason under the law to stop you from wearing the necklace.
Check if it’s discrimination
If someone is stopping you from practising your religion, it might also be discrimination under the Equality Act 2010. You can:
check if your housing problem is discrimination
check if your problem at work is discrimination

Well done and great salute to Katharine, as an open minded person who is focusing on kids education and well being.
These Muslim kids have no appreciation of the amazing opportunity at an excellent education that they have been given, in the UK (unlikely to have the same opportunity in many Islamic countries). They don't realize that they can destroy this opportunity for others, and destroy the teacher's career who has put in so much effort to help young people. As an educator myself, this make me very angry. Pray at home!
Of course Islam get a special pass for this. But the other religions wont
Next it'll be speakers outside blasting the call to prayer
It’s because we literally have to pray and abandoning the prayer in their allocated times is considered as disbelief (apostasy). We’re not praying in our break times for fun or annoyance.
@MG-cc9hi Then go to Islamic schools where you can do that.
@@MG-cc9hi Well then why come and live in the uk ? Why not settle in Pakistan where Muslim laws are applied?

No, we are not a Muslim country, quite right. The ummah is taking place, though, make no mistake. Colonisation by another name. Wake up, people of Briton, if you want your customs and freedoms retained.
So Britain is now secular...the other week we were Christian. I don’t agree with the headteacher. Universities provide prayer facilities which can be used by all denominations. It is not a big deal. There are prayer rooms in big companies including city law firms and accountancy firms. The issue here is hatred of muslims pure and simple.

I agree, they weren’t doing before Hamas attacked Israel from Gaza , but all of a sudden there are Muslims praying everywhere as an act of defiance and aggression I saw a lone ginger headed bloke on the school run slapping himself in the street Muslim style half dressed in the rain right in front of old people’s homes , go pray at home and stop making a show of themselves
@@sophiemiller6711you have no idea what is coming do you? This is not about praying. I went to school in the 70s and 80s with Muslim children. Not once did they want to disrupt classes to pray. Don’t propagate with lies. Muslims are living with Abrahamic faith followers for centuries, Islam didn’t come to Europe last several years, Muslims in Spain helped Europe to flourish and prosper a long period of time and there was no discrimination against Jewish or Christians people, in fact both Jewish and Christian’s original holy books are part of Muslims holy books. Aren’t You a Hindu propagating here! One advice, don’t try to deceive and use Jewish people, eventually truth would come out and Jewish people would find out the game which Hindus are playing with them and don’t try to deceive people with lies!
To be honest, I ( a white British and Jewish man) don't feel like I belong in this country anymore either. I grew up here, went to school and university here, graduated as a Doctor here, worked in hospitals here. But in the last 2 years, increasingly I don't feel I'm welcomed here anymore either. So much so my fiance and I are moving to New Zealand in a few months time. To hear this kind kind of nonsense coming from schools just makes that decision even easier. I wouldn't want a child of mine entering the education system how it is today.
New Zealand isn't the best anymore they are becoming more woke everyday.
You don't feel comfortable living in a country where different religions are practised? That's crazy. What other differences in other people do you find you're not able to tolerate?
New Zealand ? You could be jumping from the frying pan into the fire tbh , same with Canada , those countries are Woke socialist shyte holes now
You would have pushed the jab, being paid by taxpayers, you really aren't welcome.
As a non Jewish person, sorry to hear how you feel, but I totally understand you. Muslims are taking over and show such hatred for Jewish people and also non Muslims. I hope you and your fiance lead very happy lives in New Zealand.
Stopping a certain religion praying is indeed discrimination. The circumstances are most unfortunate, however ultimately she chose to punush innocent children of a certain religion.
This is why the catholics have there own schools.

The only one showing ignorance and disrespect is the headteacher. Rather than allowing those who want to pray and have to pray on time she is creating a mountain out of a molehill. The judge should rule in favour of the students.
If they want their children to pray at school…they should be in a country that supports their faith..England is basically Christian…and children do not pray out in the playground….

Why do we have to do anything to accommodate people who have a different belief to the vast majority of the british people in this country. If people don't like the way this country is .. then leave and go and live somewhere else .. dont change our country to suit them. Hundreds of thousands of people died to keep Britain British and it turns out that they died for nothing. The government need to grow some and tell these people to abide by our rules and traditions or get out.
Today prayer in school yards, tomorrow sharia law and head chopping in court rooms. There must be a definitive stand against islamification. I don't care if that is regarded as Islamophobic. Our way of life is facing coercive forces.
She is ABSOLUTELY correct in banning school prayers. Nowadays, an act of common sense, like this one is considered an exceptionally heroic act.
Immigrants should stop bullying this country and demanding special treatment.
Keep the UK secular!
The government let them in. Also if the kids were born here then they aren't immigrants
Why isn't the actual issue being addressed here? The students were praying in the playground. They were not disturbing anyone but hooligans in the area had a problem and resorted to vandalism and violence. Why couldn't the police have gotten involved?
Many of them are not even immigrants, they are local

Speaking of police, how come the police did not get involved to stop the vandalism of the school? So basically what they are saying is that it's a problem for children to pray in a playground, but it's ok for hooligans to take offence to children praying and to vandalise a school.
The thought police are marching out
Need to think of what is not being said. Most of the aborted are probably white. That might explain it.
