I watch a LOT of sewing tutorials, and this is absolutely one of the very best I've seen. Your explanations, your commentary, your sewing are so informative. You are delightful, and your Baby Nest is adorable. You did a great job of reminding people to use this under supervision. You are talented in sewing and teaching! Thank you!
I made this! I used materials I already had on hand, and used the stuffing from a pillow we don’t use at all. One yard each of two random pieces of fabric that I’ve been holding onto just waiting for something to use them with, a pack of bias tape that never got used, ribbon that I’ve had since my wedding, a small scrap of snap tape instead of Velcro, and a small waterproof changing pad for my removable mattress! I’m 23 weeks pregnant with my 3rd, and I definitely felt like a nesting bird while assembling this baby nest! 😂 haha. Thanks for the tutorial ❤️
I’m not pregnant nor have a baby but it was in my recommended so I clicked, it’s honestly so cute and so creative 💖 Yt is recommending your video so get prepared for all the comments of SIDS risk, even though you CLEARLY mention MULTIPLE times that this should only be used when supervised 🙄
@@OwlipopDIY i have never heard of babynests to be fatally dangerous for babies. How exactly could they suffocate in one? A newborn baby can hardly move anyway. How would they be able to turn their whole face in the side and not be able to turn the face away? I really don't understand the panic. Other than that, the nest is beautifully made! Easy and great tutorial 👍👍👍
Courtney she didn’t roll her eyes at the fact that babies can die from this, she rolled her eyes about dumb ass people like you who leave negative comments without paying attention to the fact that she states multiple times that you should not leave your baby unsupervised.
Its not so much about the baby moving but that is a concern too, not just their heads moving but moving their legs & body can have an effect its hard to explain unless you see it but the main thing is babies should be laid on a completely flat surface, some of them are completely flat yes and just have a barrier on the outside. I'm not completely anti these, I think they are great to put them in on a couch if you are right there, similar to when people put babies in those nursing pillows. Some of these nest things aren't flat, claim to have that snuggling thing/replicate the womb, those ones prevent a baby laying flat and can lead to chin to chest which can prevent breathing. They already are not recommended for sleeping and it will only be a matter of time before they are taken off the market, just like the rock n play. So many things ment for play or for use under supervision have been taken off the market due to others choosing to let their child sleep in them, then the worst happens and the product/company is to blame. Ruins it for everyone else.
Wow, went with my mother-in-law to shop for this and turned out quite expensive but we decided to get it this coming weekend. How glad I am to have stumbled across this easy-to-follow guide for making my own baby nest. Nothing beats doing things like this with your own hands. It just adds that warmth and love to the project/product you're doing with your loved ones in mind. Thank you very much for your efforts in providing this....the whole lot, video shooting, editing and then the actual sewing. Thank you. I will make an attempt to do this though I do not own a sewing machine but my excitement for my first baby will drive me to go all the way even if I have to sew this by hand and just apply double stitches to secure it. Thanks once again for this very helpful DIY.
Ugh! Thank you. I purchased a pattern to make one of these, and the pattern creator’s instructions were so over complicated. I couldn’t finish it because it would not turn out right the way she had done it. This makes it so much more simple.
What a GREAT idea 💡!! I LOVE THIS!! I sure wish RUclips, Pintrest and just the internet in general was around when my kid's were babies 20+yrs ago to get AMAZING ideas like this. Oh well... I'll be a Grandma one day I'm sure 😊. Then I'll be able to ❤️. I seriously CANT WAIT!!! I'm so proud of my daughter for being responsible though. She's the 1st one in many many generations in our family to not be a teen mom. I had her at 16, My mom had me at 17, my grandma had her 1st at 15, my great-grandma had her 1st at 13 and my great great-grandma had her 1st at 16. I'm not sure before that. My daughter will be 21 yrs old October 25th 2020, and she's never been pregnant. She broke the cycle of teen pregnancies in our family and I'm so so proud of her ❤️.
Thank you for the instructions! Me and my mom is currently trying to figure out how to sew a baby nest for my baby who will arrive in about 6 weeks. The instructions for the pattern we have was super unclear so this video helped so much!
For those watching and attempting this project: 1) you need at least a 1” width for the bias tape to make it wide enough for you to string the cord through with ease; making sure to sew a straight stitch hugging the bias borders so the tunnel has the most room 2) she gives no dimensions on how wide to make the bottom of the bed. Just that it is 20 cm tall. So you will have to guess 3) she does not tell or show you how hard it is to round the corners with the bias tape.
I noted the exact same things as I have been working on this project. Any advice on the corners? I am worried about ruining the whole thing by messing up the corners somehow while sewing on the bias tape.
For everyone having trouble with the bias binding, you're better off making a tube with fabric. I did this by cutting a strip of fabric the same length as what the bias binding would have been, and about 4 inches wide. Then you fold it in half and sew it between the two large pieces of fabric so it pokes out around the edge when it's turned in the right way. It can still be a bit fiddly on the corners but it's much easier in my opinion
I made it for a baby shower. My friend is sending back the one she got from amazon! I wish I could post a pic here. The only thing I did different was when sewing the cord it was easier to sew the cord right in when sewing the 2nd side instead of trying to thread it in later. Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much. This is the second baby nest I have made (last time with a different instructor). Your instructions and method is much simpler and better.
Thank you for the tutorial video. My husband and I made this diy baby nest for our soon-to-be bundle of joy. It's a bit challenging because our sewing machine was not cooperating. 😁 But the result is awesome. Thank you again! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
This baby nest is really adorable!. I really like the quilted matress that you made. I'll try that when I make it for my grandson. Thanks for sharing ❤️ from Michigan ❤️🧵🧵
I'm so excited about this tutorial! I attempted to make one for my daughter 2 years ago when the DIY patterns weren't as easy to find. Now with baby #2 on the way and due next month I really wanted to make another, but wanted an easier pattern. Thank you for your easy to follow instructions!
Wow this is beautiful; my baby is 20mnths now. Your instruction is so easy to follow. I will make her one in bigger size so she can sleep in when is nap. Thank you. You have new subscriber here.
This is so lovely. My daughter is six months pregnant and I’m so excited that ur diy is so succinct that i will be able to make it for her and the baby. My only problem is I live in the USA and she and her husband live in France. I hope I can carry it on the plane! 😊 thanks again for the diy because it is made so thoughtfully. I hope you share your pattern for the dog too.
I’m happy you found the tutorial helpful! I’m sure you can fold it and pack it or you could also finish the project in France! Leave the small gap on the sides and buy pillow stuffing when you get there.
Such easy to follow instructions! Thank you!! I'll be putting this on my DIY list before my baby arrives. I have a month off before she's due, this project should keep me busy and hubby will be pleased I'm not buying a $300+ store version... I also have no doubt my dog will want to use this also LOL.
Love this! And love those fabrics! I was trying to think of a way to make one of these and had come up with the idea of using a pool noodle to make the sides. After seeing this, I don't think a pool noodle will be large or soft enough. I was going to make two separate parts- the mattress and then the sides, and then velcro them together. If they come apart, then the nest can double as a play mat.
Thank you so much. I've jotted down the basic instructions to make this before I go get the supplies. I will post it to you somehow when I get it done for my first time grandson arriving at the end of May 2020. You're awesome.👍
Thank you for uploading this. It’s so clear with instructions and I appreciate the link to your blog for the written instructions too. I can’t wait to get started!!
I'm so excited about this tutorial! I attempted to make one for my daughter. Can i know roughly how many grams do you use for the pillow stuffing? Thanks in advance.

I’m in the process of making this baby nest, and I am so grateful for this tutorial! You explain it so much better than any of the other videos I’ve watched. I am confused though about one thing: when you slide the mattress in, do you sew around the edge of it to keep in from moving around inside the nest? You didn’t say, so I’m wondering how you keep the stuffing in the tube without it getting spread out through the mattress area. Wouldn’t you need to sew a channel, so to speak, to keep the stuffing contained in the surrounding tube? I hope my question makes sense! I know this video is from last year, but I’m hoping you will answer!! Thank you so much!
Hi, thank you, I'm happy to hear that :) So the mattress and the fiber filling are not in the same compartment. At 5:55 you can see how I pinned the mattress only to be able to sew along it's edge to create the side sections which will be filled with pillow stuffing. I've done it only to make sure there will be enough space for the mattress on the inside. The mattress is only placed inside, not sewn.
@@OwlipopDIY Ok, I see now.....thank you so much for explaining that to me!! I guess it didn’t make sense to me at the time.... which now I see that you actually did explain it very well in the video! I really appreciate your response, thank you VERY much!!
