I enjoyed this video while I was doing some ironing. Very thorough, covering mechanics AND so many applications. I sometimes think "Oh, I don't need to bother putting that walking foot on." But then I realize how much better the end result is when I take the time to attach it. I was wondering about using my decorative stitches with the walking foot. I have been using a straight stitch with the single needle hole plate in place. Now I am going to change to the wide needle hole plate and try some fancy stitches! Thanks for pointing out the maximum stitch width of 5.5mm for the decorative stitches. My model goes up to 9mm stitch width, so you saved me a broken needle ;). I am trying to learn free-motion quilting with the feed dogs down and the darning foot attached, but I'm still tending to get very tensed up and tired. Going back to the straight or gentle waves with the walking foot on a different project lets me relax - both mind and body. Thanks again for producing this very thorough video.

I’m so glad I saved this video to refer back to it! So informative. I’ve been undecided on how to quilt my most recent project, but this has made that decision easier. Thank you!

Thank you for answering my question about not being able to use the automatic threader with the walking foot on the 880 plus. I lost sound about the time you answered that question. I have found a way to thread the needle with it attached by going to the menu and changing the foot to another foot. But you have to remember to go back and change back to the walking foot to be able to sew.

This was very helpful! I am getting familiar with my Artista 165. I am working on a T-shirt quilt. Do I just use the standard straight stitch with walking foot stitch in the ditch? Or do I use icon for quilt and use one of those straight stitches?

Hi Susie- with knits using the walking foot will be really helpful. You can test the stitch to see what you like, but you might even consider a narrow zigzag stitch for this, as it will have more stretch.

Why take walking foot to service when used very frequently.?

They can get a bit squeaky over time, mine did 🙂

Yes, the walking foot can be oiled at the roller with the sewing machine oil if it is squeaking. If they would like further maintenance or the foot is still squeaking, they can take to tech who can take the casing off and oil the inside with a different oil

Lots of good information. However, the samples should have been stitched with contrasting colors to make the designs more visible.
